WELCOME TO THE AGE OF SCIENCE (Natural History Museum)
Advantages: nteresting, educational, fun, something for everybody above the age of 2, free
Disadvantages: NONE
...I was delighted to find out that National History Museum (as well as Science museum) became completely free of charge some time between 1992 when I last visited and now. As soon as my daughter was big enough to say dinosaur I took here there on one of our day London trips and we spent about 2.5 hours wandering about the collections.
The building itself makes it worth a visit, now beautifully cleaned to reveal Neo-Gothic glory of the intricate multi-coloured facade where the sculptures depict members of the animal kingdom rather than gargoyles. Welcome to the beginnings of the science age.
The Natural History museum comprises Life Galleries, covering mostly animal life (a lot of them extinct) and Earth Galleries, covering subjects like geology, volcanoes, minerals and the like. Please note that there is very, very little plant related...

My favourite museum in London
Advantages: learning was never so much fun - free entrance - amazing museum
Disadvantages: could be crowded... that's all
...Natural History Museum of London is perhaps one of my favourite museums in the World. Whenever I'm in London I try to visit it.
The museum is in a "cathedral" building. This creation was deliberately designed by Alfred Waterhouse to inspire awe... and it does. It's even hard to photograph because it's very big compared to the surrounding area. The elaborate Romanesque style is impressive as the giant cast of Diplodocus skeleton in the main hall of the Life Galleries.
This museum makes learning fun! They have amazing galleries and a vast collection (70 million plants, animals, fossils, rocks and minerals to be exact) including dinosaurs (also a real-size animatronic Tyrannosaurus Rex roaring at you) and Creepy Crawlies gallery. Also impressive is a giant tree slice on top of the stairs in the hall which dates from 557 to 1892 when...

A Story of London's Real Eastenders
Advantages: fascinating family history
Disadvantages: availaibilty of the book
...Who Am I? Where do I come from? Who were my ancestors and what were their lives like? These are all questions we my have pondered upon time to time whilst some of us have actually gone out and dug around in archives and graveyards to discover more about their family history. Fueled by the success of programmes like ?Who Do You Think You are, is one of the most popular forms of research amongst amateur historians. There is one main problem with genealogy , it maybe fascination to you that great great great uncle Percy was a one legged coal miner with 5 kids and a wife in the workhouse but how important is it ion the bigger scale of things? Oxford lecturer Hilda Kean addresses this problem in her book ?London Stories: Personal Lives, Public Histories?
?London Stories? is based on Kean's quest to trace her East End family roots It...

A Complete History Of London Transport
Advantages: An evocative history of London Transport, some beautifully renovated vehicles
Disadvantages: Restricted access on the upper level
...Like anyone located in England's capital city, I grew up travelling on London's Transport service. Its history (especially that which spanned my own period of usage from the early 1970s to the late 1980s) is as much a part of me as any other aspect of my life experiences.
Long-term illness and a move to the countryside mean I no longer make journeys by public transport, but a keen sense of identification and fascination with the Underground train system in particular, remains.
The London Underground has always seemed like a world within a world, a remarkable legacy of industrial achievements and architectural flair dating back to the late 19th century. Beneath a Victorian city, a labyrinth of interconnecting railroad tracks was burrowed in order to ease the congested streets above.
Such a process, starting such a project from...

LONDON'S CALLING
Advantages: Pleasent stay, good food, central location
Disadvantages: Views from room
...eateries/drinking places and chose 372, which offers carvery selection. I was surprise how hot and fresh the food was. Not only that it was tasty too! We opted for lamb with roast potatoes, new potatoes and three vegetables. However, my only complaint about the meal was the vegetables; they were a tad on the raw side for my liking. That said I ALWAYS OVER cook my veggies. Dessert was for me home made apple pie and cream, while the other half opted for home made cheesecake ? both were consumed without any complaints and very much enjoyed. Our meal for two with drinks cost £29)
Hotel: the hotel it situated in the Strand which is in central London and easy to walk to theatres such as the Aldwych, Lyceum, and many more. Come out the front of the hotel and turn right, and you?ll be heading towards Trafalgar square with Nelson, bear left and you...

LUXURY IN LONDON!
Advantages: Brilliant rooms, service, food, internet etc
Disadvantages: expensive!!!
...In the middle of February, I was lucky enough to be whisked away for a long weekend in London with my grandma. I?m a huge fan of west end shows and musicals, and so our trip was booked- we would go and see various different shows. I couldn?t wait to go.
One thing I hadn?t thought of before going however was which hotel we were staying in. I reckoned that we wouldn?t be spending too much time in the hotel itself, as we were going to be very busy, so as long as it had two beds, a bathroom and some sort of wardrobe I?d have been happy. I knew the name of the hotel was The Grosvenor, however I didn?t have a clue what its reviews were like, or in fact how many stars it had.
Getting to the hotel
We had absolutely no problem finding the hotel. We took the train from our hometown, to King?s Cross in London. We only had to wait...

London's history in 1 book
Advantages: Easy reading, full of facts and amusing details
Disadvantages: size of the book, 1500 pages !!
...at the thick of things and give you what sounds like a eyewitness account of whatever event occuring at the time.
Along the page you will become familiar with the history that surrounds you in London - why is Chelsea called Chelsea !! - and it is full of little historical details - how did the Pound Sterling got its name from !! - which are just great.
What Edward Rutherfurd succeeds to do is to writes little novels on the same subject so that you do not feel like you are reading a 1500 pages book. The novel spans the lifetime of some of the characters sometimes and will be around 100 pages. And the book isa collection of these.
It is fully enjoyable and one should not be put off by the size of the book itself.
And finally, there is the story of the bag of gold... but for that, you will have to read the book !!
Prices start at £2.38 used...

History Deary not Dreary.
Advantages: Fun and informative
Disadvantages: none
...I bought "Ten Horrible Histories" from a book club we run at school. They cost me £10 for the set which was an excellent bargain. They are marked at £4.99 each.
The books are paperback with approximately 127/130 pages in each. They are easy and interesting to read for young children with a reading age of about eight. Boys of this age especially, sometimes find reading boring just as the author states that history can be boring.
All of the books have a contents and introduction page.
The books are interesting and very cleverly written. If a child finds reading a page of text difficult they can read the comic strip or the jokes and an adult could share the book with them by reading the text. There are quizzes and in some books questions to ask the teacher, so the teacher must read the book too!
There are rhyme words, lists...

Natural history fun
Advantages: Its Free, Educational and Fun
Disadvantages: Tired Feet, cafe expensive
...fun and go prehistoric for the holidays.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address and getting there:
Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London SW7 5BD, UK.
Within walking distance of South Kensington station on the District, Circle and Piccadilly lines.
By bus Routes 14, 49, 70, 74, 345, 360, 414 and C1 stop near us. Some tour buses also pass nearby.
I would not advise going by car here as parking is very difficult and expensive.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Extra Helpful info:
The Cafe is very expensive so i would suggest you pop out for lunch and come back. I brought 4 drinks and 2 small packs of biscuits for approx. £15 never again.
Due to heighten security your bags will be checked on entering...

American History X
Advantages: Great plot, superb characters and a theme that needed to be discussed
Disadvantages: violent
.... However, I would totally defend the film because to me it's actually a good piece of art. Rather than making a lovely dove semi violent movie, the director when for the honest and brutal truth about the Aryan gangs, the racial hatred in the world and what can happen in prison (if you bend down for the soap).
Quick Info on the Director:
Tony Kaye is actually an English Director born in London, 1952. Unfortunately American History X was his only feature film, which to me was a real shame is this film really bought out the best in the director, but he stuck around directing music videos and continued doing lower key documentaries and so on. But his biggest accolade was this film.
Basic Plot Outline (Well its actually quite complicated)
Ok well ill try my best to explain the general plot of the story, without having to give away too...
