Reviews of london school of economics
My Experiences so far at LSE
Review of London University School of Economics & Political Science by
gemma1234
Advantages: Excellent academic reputation, prestige, social life, diversity
Disadvantages: expense, hard work
..., GCSE and AS results and predicted grades at A2. The offers given to students are usually quite high, I received an offer of AAB to do BSc Maths and Economics but a lot of people needed to get at least AAA to get in here. It is a highly competitive institution and many people are unsucessful. My advice to any student who wishes to study here is to just go for it, if you have high grades and an impressive personal statement then you have a good chance of being sucessful but if you are unsucessful you have not suffered any loss as you have not wasted any time on interviews and such like. The most popular courses here seem to be BSc Economics or LLB Law but other courses such as maths based courses or history are also offered here.

Four Random Thoughts about the LSE
Review of London School of Economics and Political Science by
the-venerable-bede
Advantages: see text
Disadvantages: see text
...I attended the London School of Economics and Political Science from 1997 to 2000 and strolled away, without so much as a backward glance, with a respectable degree in History. The LSE was founded in 1895 by members of the Fabian Society with a generous bequest and socialist aims. It has developed over the past century or so to become, probably, the most important social sciences institution in the world. Although it is perhaps best known for the radicalism of its student after the Vietnam protests of the late sixties its enduring contributions must be the formulation of monetarism and by extension Thatcherism. The current Director, Professor Anthony Giddens, is the architect of a creed extrapolated by Blair and Clinton called the Third Way that no-one else is really comfortable with.
I hope, dear reader, that you will indulge me...

A collection of eager beavers
Review of London School of Economics and Political Science by
DDRS
Advantages: Good academics, great people, and it's in London!
Disadvantages: Admin services not great, postgrad oriented
...big (or so I’m told by my friends in the History, Anthropology, and my very own Law departments). The reality, however, can be a little disappointing. As undergraduates, we have little exposure to most of these top academics, instead often taught by part-time teachers with mediocre communication skills. It seems that the top teachers are constantly giving more and more attention to postgrads. Come visit the school and you will find people queuing up to complain about the teaching. However, I think that, while partly true, this is partly an issue of expectations. We hear of big names, and then compare our classteachers to them, which is a bit unfair. Some of my part time teachers have been quite good. Just because the lecturers are excellent does not mean that we have to crucify junior teachers. All things considered, from my...

Review of London University School of Economics & Political Science by
smallblue
Advantages: A respectable degree, world renowned scholars
Disadvantages: teaching, resources, social life
...Scary is one of the words i would have used to describe entering University. After all, the transition from High School or College to Universtiy is large, to say the least. So armed with a handful of A's, nerves, excitement and the knowledge that the first year of University is apparently the best of your life, I stumbled into the world famous LSE.
I was struck instantly by the vast number of Foreign students, though the prospectus had always said that 50% of students are form overseas, i didn't fully anticipate what this meant.
The other thing i was dazzled by were tha bright lights, people and nightlife.
Universtiy, or rather the LSE, was nothing as i had expected, after the initial waves of all different emotions hit me from moving out of home to this strange environment, i began to see what the LSE was all about...

Cant keep me out
Review of London University School of Economics & Political Science by
lpu97kh
Advantages: So prestigious with excellent facilities, social life
Disadvantages: Expense
...I was unfortunately unsucessful in my application to do a Masters here. While i had good grades, i was not surprised due to the competition at this prestigious uni. My advice if u want to go here is to apply real early as they make decisions as applications come in.
It is rated 4th or 5th in the 'The Times' uni league tables guide. It is internationally renowned with LOADS of famous staff & THE place to be for social sciences . So many core texts are actually written by the staff here.
The composition of the student body is truly international. This is also reflected in a
Facilities
Facilities are great here - well i guess they are reflected in the extortionate fees. They are almost double the amount of comaparable London institutions. Though it is also claimed that they are short of funds.
The Library makes me...

Economics @ Exeter
Review of Economics by
tomhughes78
Advantages: Excellent reputation, spacious lecture theatres, good computer facilities
Disadvantages: more lectures than other degree subjects
...I began my course at Exeter in autumn 2002, after meeting my A level offer the previous summer. Im not quite sure what attracted me to Exeter in the first instance as it was so long ago - I was impressed by the quality of the prospectus, and I had heard good things about Exeter from everybody I had spoken to, including careers advisors at my sixth form college. I originally chose the single honours BA (Hons) Economics course, however I changed courses during my first term to dual honours BA (Hons) Economics and Politics with the intention of avoiding some of the mathematics. I was expecting my department to be difficult about changing, however I soon realised that the school of business and economics at Exeter look after their students extremely well, particularly during the first few terms.
The school itself is an extremely modern...

School dinners - but bigger portions!
Review of School Dinners Restaurant, London by
findyourfoto
Advantages: Great party atmosphere - a good night out
Disadvantages: Dont expect high quality food!
...Theres a clue in the name here. School dinners bar/restaurant, situated just round the corner from Farringdon tube station in London, is a great venue for your hen/stag/party night out. The theme, as you've guessed is being back at school and if you go there expecting to just have a good night out with your mates you will be dissapointed because you will be forced to have a great night out with everyone in attendance!
From the Eaten boys to the St Trinian girls, from the headmaster Mr R U Tuckman to the headmistress Mrs M E Bedworthy, the costumes and characters are all there and are all good at their roles. Cane in hand the headmaster will tolerate no misbehaving or food fights. Cross his path and you can expect 10 of the best whilst bent over the school desk!
The evening is very well put together. Arriving between 7 and 8 pm...

Simply the best night out in London!
Review of School Disco (London) by
johnnymarcus
Advantages: Wicked people and free nights
Disadvantages: No free tap water
...School Disco has to be THE best night out in London I have ever had. Now are you thinking what are the chances of my pulling! Let me tell you you won't leave with out one!The vibe is simply fantastic, people are really friendly, and those annoying girls/boys that you always seem to find in clubs that are so far up there arse, luckily don't make an appearence hear!. Boys and girls alike are mainly goodlooking, and very flirtatious. Unlike many london clubs. Age ranges between 18-25 a few 30 year olds slip though (every time!). Its fantastic to hear songs that you'd forgotten about, songs that you havn't heard since you were about eight! For all the info go to schooldisco.com for directions ect. The nearest tube is Vauxhall. Dress is school uniform, and the aim is to look like a stereotypical school boy/girl scruffy, and bit of ink over...

Economics A-level, in black and white... and red.
Review of Economics - Alain Anderton by
segyeshin
Advantages: Very comprehensive.
Disadvantages: Can be slightly daunting/boring.
..., a list of definitions. Both of these are very useful when the exams draw near.
I suspect that not many people would read it for pleasure. The book is over 700 pages and even to people who are interested in economics, it can be tedious at times.
Would I buy it? That really depends. If you already have an economics textbook and are looking to have something else to prepare you for exams, then you'll be better off with a revision guide. If your school doesn't provide you with your own copy of a textbook, buying a copy of Economics may help you through the course.
If you are not taking A-level economics but are thinking of taking it at university, or you are studying for some other reason, than the fact that you don't have to follow the A-level syllabus strictly gives you a bit more choice. There is another book called Economics by John...

Small Specialist University Insiders guide
Review of London University School of Oriental & African Studies by
lpu97kh
Advantages: Relatively cheap fees, world renowned specialist institution
Disadvantages: Library lacks stock, pretty boring for undergrads
...flatmate is under 30 in my flat & one flatmate is over 50. i have met many interesting people since being here, people from a wide variety of backgrounds & with unique experiences.
The language schools allows you to do a range of languages even if it is not part of your course, as long as u pay.
The level of teaching is high, as indicated by its position in The Times & Financial Times League Tables - usually 6th or 7th. The fees here are a bargain compared to the London School of Economics which are almost double. However, i think this does show as the Library here is very specialist & has alot of books but demand far outweighs stock. First time i went in i was looking for 30 books, all of which were actually in stock yet i could not find a single one on the shelf! I've not yet met one library user who thinks differently. Also...
