A breath of fresh air in south London
Advantages: One of the nicest and most varied in the locality, a nice cafe,
Disadvantages: open to the adjoining golf course in parts (for dog walkers)
...I?ve found that owning a dog needing lots of exercise like my Labrador and having an appetite that could embarrass Homer Simpson is a match made in heaven sometimes.
Some of my favourite little cafes and pubs have been found whilst out walking our dog. I have a keen eye for books which describe good walks (not necessarily dog focussed) which feature a pub stop half way around, or a nice café somewhere nearby.
That was how I first heard about High Elms Country Park.
Not too far from home, but I probably wouldn?t bother travelling there if it weren?t for the opportunity to take my dog somewhere different every so often.
Situated in the London Borough of Bromley and by the North Downs, it was originally the country seat of the Lubbock family. It?s now owned by Bromley Council, although it receives some assistance from...

London Institute gains University Status.
Advantages: Good student vibe, teaching standard.
Disadvantages: Area slightly run down, some outdated computer equipment
...are big plans for its future. At present there are some interesting shops and some OK places to go. There is a nearby Tesco, Wetherspoons, Nandos, Lots of Banks, Iceland, WHSmith, Superdrug, Woolies, Boots and the Megabowl. These are to name but a few.
There are some excellent transport links and loads of buses from every corner of each roundabout. The Train Station is a about two minutes from the college as is the Tube Station. Both the northern line and Bakerloo line serve the area. If you don?t like using the lift then use alternative transport methods.
This is a very exciting time for the college. LCP and the other four colleges which make up the London Institute have recently been awarded University status. Congratulations to everyone who has made this possible. This means more recognition and funding for the Colleges.
LCP...

A Central Location, Ideal For Exploring London
Advantages: Reasonable deals on rooms, good facilities, nice spacious rooms, central location
Disadvantages: Prices of the extra items such as breakfast
...When it came to Pip's birthday this year I decided to make it special as it was her first while we've been together. So as a surprise I arranged a weekend in London, a decent hotel, show and a trip on the London Eye. Having consulted a number of websites and talked to a few people about the best places to stay I opted to try the Novotel as they seemed to have some very reasonable deals on. Once I'd decided that it was then choosing one to stay at and it made sense to get one near the London Eye and near to the Tube stations, so I opted for the Novotel in Southwark.
I booked the whole thing using the Novotel's website and because of this there are some better rates than you might otherwise get. The standard price for a double room with a sofa is £195 and on top of that you need to add a further £13.50 for breakfast. In contrast I...

London College of Communication - hmm...
Advantages: Very hip, excellent facilities for each subject area, people on the whole very sociable and friendly
Disadvantages: It's in Elephant & Castle!! Not much of a 'community' feel due to it being in London, terrible Freshers arrangements
...Having just dropped out from LCP (or LCC as it's now known) I'm going to try my best to give an unbiased opinion, and although at first impressions you may not think I'm the best person to write a review having left, bear with me because I do have many good things to say about the college too!
Firstly, I want to stress that the college itself was not the reason for me leaving - I was unfortunately put in the dullest and most unfriendly student house this side of the universe, which greatly affected my decision, and after thinking it through the course I had opted to do (B.A. (Hons) Journalism) was not for me and I simply just didn't feel at home in London in general. This doesn't mean it won't be the place for you however!
The college is very artsy, not at all like a traditional university, so if a campus uni is what you're after...

London College of Fashion
Advantages: Free form teaching
Disadvantages: No university experience
...When I was in high school, the thought of University was really really far off. It had been built into this great thing, an opportunity for me to really develop to my full potential. I would meet a wide range of people, find my own niche perhaps and learn about all the things that my high school couldn't or wouldn't teach us. After a severe process of application through UCAS and exams and acceptances ( and rejections ofcourse ) I finally chose to go to the one school I applied to outside of UCAS : The London College of Fashion. I thought that it would give me everything that a conventional university wouldn't, so instead of going to Bristol or Durham which I probably should have, I made a somewhat " distinguished" choice, I guess you could say.
The London College of Fashion is part of the London Institute ( which is comprised of 5...

Turkish delights in South London
Advantages: Delicious, affordable, friendly and comfortable
Disadvantages: Is eating too much a disadvantage?
...Situated on London's South Bank, opposite the main entrance to the Globe Theatre, and ten minutes walk from London Bridge station, Tas Pide is a real treat to find.
I first went there after visiting their sister restaurant, only a short walk away on Borough High Street. While at the other restaurant I picked up a card thinking that it was for them, but only realised when I next came to book that I had actually picked up the wrong one - undeterred I phoned and booked a table at this one, and discovered to my delight that it was just as good, if not better than it's sister. And if you want proof I have been back there many, many times, recommended it to others, and never heard a bad word said!!!
THE MENU
Tas Pide had a wide collection of turkish food on it's menu, from homous, felafel and traditional salads (and so many others...

Sheffield Hallam University - Banking with Finance
Advantages: good number of societies, sports, science and nursing courses are second to none.
Disadvantages: teaching standards slipped by final year, limited computers, poor print services, poor union
...on an entirely new topic. Now, personally I deem this unsatisfactory as I feel cheated having passed my coursework fairly and suspect that I did much better than the mark I was awarded. I have since finishing University in May moved just south of London at the end of June to find a job and get onto a solid career path and now find it really stupid that I have had to redo two pieces of coursework both of which equate to 5,500 words and resit two exams which must be sat in Sheffield as well in mid August. I would have thought that a student with very little money in the first place living away from home would have been entitled to an assessment centre closer to their current residence under an invigilator if that were so required, instead I am the one feeling cheated and definately unamused.
I get the impression that from my course, the university...

Belfast On Thames
Advantages: Great value for money; children go free
Disadvantages: On board direction signs could be clearer
...One fine Spring Saturday lunchtime found me and my fourteen year old son wandering along the South Bank of the Thames in London with time on our hands prior to watching football. As we ambled eastwards between London Bridge and Tower Bridge looking for somewhere to have a beer in order to kill time we came across the grey bows of a medium sized warship. It was HMS Belfast, the World War II Naval Destroyer now residing permanently on the Thames, a monument almost in itself.
HMS Belfast was launched at The Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast in March 1938 and commissioned by the Royal Navy in 1939. A modified Southampton class light cruiser she is 613 feet long, and has a standard displacement of 11,553 tons. She has twelve six inch guns, eight four inch, and twelve Bofors anti aircraft guns. In her day she had a top speed of thirty...

War: A right laugh.
Advantages: a good laugh
Disadvantages: you can't get to the really cool parts
..., snatch the radio from the hands of a small child and yell into it: "We're under attack! Jerry off the starboard bow!" or some such. After all, I was only getting into the swing of things. And I think the small child, after he had stopped crying, really appreciated my spirited attempt to transport him back to a world of conflict, death and misery.
So. Right. HMS Belfast. Moored on the south bank of the Thames, this is a World War II warship (see: facts!) that has been converted into a public attraction. You board via a disappointingly unrickety gangway, and once on board, are allowed free access to the ship's eight or so decks. Well, not quite free access. As is de riguer in all attractions of this sort, all the really cool-looking exciting bits are roped off, presumably for reasons of danger. This is extremely annoying. Why should my...

Memory Bank
Advantages: free and good
Disadvantages: NONE
...get to press buttons and say "Just made 50k on the Dow Jones" or something. Okay, it's all pretty poorly thought out, but you have to give them credit for trying.
So how much, you ask, must you pay to be allowed entry to this hall of wonders? You'll never guess, so I might as well tell you. No, actually, you can have one guess. Go on? What's that? Four pounds? Ha - you idiot! In actual fact, it's free! Absolutely free! I would happily have paid upwards of a pound for all this entertainment, but I didn't have to. Now THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is a good deal. Not as good as if the tour had included a complimentary drink of your choice, but still damn good.
And that's about everything. Where is it? Oh, it's in the Bank of England. By Bank tube station. In London. Opening hours are 9 to 5 or something, I don't really know. But what I...
