National Theatre's: "War Horse"
Advantages: Good ticket prices and brilliant puppetry
Disadvantages: Was over complicated in parts
...A Reflection of the National Theatre Interpretation of "War Horse" compared to the book.
This play was orignally shown in 2007 and has now returned back to the stage due to demand back at the National Theatre and is booking untill January.
"War Horse" is the story of a boy's love for his horse in 1912 Somerset, who are wrenched apart by World War One. The crucial issue staging a play, based upon a novel established through the eyes of a horse 'Joey', was constructing equine creatures with authentic movements, sounds and size that could be easily moved and ridden, particularly during the intense scenes of conflict.
This was inventively answered by the use of "life-sized puppets" divised by the Handspring puppet company, with wooden skeletons covered in translucent fabrics and a belly filled with puppeteers who simulated...

The Most Perfect Experience of Theatre
Advantages: Nothing else like it as a tourist destination or theatrical experience
Disadvantages: If you watch a show you don't like, it might cloud your whole judgement
...Here's what you have to do:
Get yourself onto the London Underground network and take the Central Line to St Paul's. When you arrive there are signposts to direct you down to the Thames and across to the Globe Theatre. When you get to the river, just stop for a moment by the Millenium Footbridge and enjoy the view. Straight ahead of you is the towering phoenix of Tate Modern. If you've got a couple of hours to kill before your play starts, go in - it's free. Doesn't matter if you like or dislike modern art, the place is awesome, and there's a great cafe at the top where you can look out over the cityscape.
To the left of the Tate is The Globe. If you can't quite make it out, look for the ice cream van out front - it's always there. Make your way across the Millennium Bridge and try counting the number of shocks you get from...

London's Mane Event
Advantages: It's so good...
Disadvantages: ...you'll want to go again the next night
...-piece songs tacked on. The singing and dancing integrate seamlessly with the dialogue and action scenes, with incidental music provided by the orchestra throughout and recurring motifs which give continuity to the music; the low chant of 'Ingonyama' ('Here is a lion') first appears in 'Circle of Life' and is repeated in 'They Live In You', 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight?' and many more. While you may not leave the theatre singing out loud, you will certainly find themes and odd lines running through your head for a long time afterwards.
In the interval and after the show it's hard to resist buying the beautiful, top-quality merchandise, which ranges from a lavishly-illustrated programme to soft toy versions of the cast to T-shirts and fleeces with the striking lion face logo. Prices are Disneyland high, though I snapped up a very nice Swatch...

FORTUNE THEATRE THE WOMAN IN BLACK VERY REALISTIC
Advantages: Realistic
Disadvantages: Not so good theatre
...Don't you just love all scary stories!? Whether there ghostly or monsterous, you usually love 'em' like I do, or you just quite plainly, simply hate 'em'! Each weekend, well not literally EVERY weekend, but some weekends, I sit down in front of the telly and if there isn't any decent comedies on, I'll simply watch a horror movie instead, ok, ok, so maybe sometimes I'll pull a pillow over my head and then other times I'll jump and maybe even scream but they are fun to watch aren't they!?
This week has been, 'THANK GOD' the last week of school for myself and many others too, this means a it has been a supposedly FUN week for me!! (SUPPOSEDLY!!) One of my main attractions of the week happened on Tuesday, on Tuesday I went to London on an English/Drama school trip to a theatre called the 'Fortune Theatre' to watch 'The Woman In Black...

The Marlowe Theatre
Advantages: Great range of shows, nice layout, good facilities
Disadvantages: None
...the annual pantomime. I have been to the Marlowe Theatre twice in the past 12 months, once to see The Rocky Horror Show (which actually had the same cast that appear in the large London Theatres) and I also saw the pantomime Cinderella last year at Christmas. Prices obviously vary from show to show but in my own personal experience, I have always found the shows to be excellent value for money, for example, the Rocky Horror Show was only £16 a ticket, when you would easily pay twice that to see the same cast in a London show.
The Café / Bar
The Café Bar is modern and airy and provides a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy your food either before of after a show. Visitors who would only like to sample drinks can relax in the bar area, and for people wanting to have a bight to eat, there is ample seating around the back of the bar.
The menu has...

A THEATRE WITH A VIEW
Advantages: Open air Theatre does not come any better.
Disadvantages: Those hard seats, do not forget the cushions.
...OPEN AIR THEATRE AT ITS VERY BEST.
The Minack Theatre is located next to Porthcurno Bay which is just off the B3315 between Lands End and Penzance.
For persons like me who do not drive, there are Scheduled Bus Services from Penzance. the 300 and the 1A which both stop in Porthcurno Valley, the theatre is a further 400 meter walk up a steep hill.
For full details of the Events at the Minack and further pictures visit its own web site WWW.MINACK.COM
The Theatre was built, honed out of the rocks by a young woman ROWENA CADE with the only help being from the families gardener.
It is now a 750 seat theatre, staging a wide range of events. Shakespear , what better setting for the Tempest than a cliff side setting.
Opera, Drama, Musicals they are all there.
We have visited the Minack for several Plays...

LUXURY IN LONDON!
Advantages: Brilliant rooms, service, food, internet etc
Disadvantages: expensive!!!
...do have are of a high quality.
What is near the Grosvenor?
To me the most outstanding thing about the hotel, is that is right opposite the Apollo Victoria Theatre which is home to my favourite musical ever- Wicked. (Review to come soon...). For me this was a plus point as we were going to see it and it meant we could leave our hotel at say 7.20 and still make it in time for the 7.30 show. (We didn?t do this though..we were there way too early!...what can I say? I was excited!!!). The Victoria Palace Theatre home to Billy Elliot is also only a two minute walk from the hotel, which is great. I?d recommend both these musicals.
Buckingham Palace is a short walk away too which is a great place to visit and there are often events going on at or around the palace. The hotel is also within walking distance of the London Eye, Covent...

Theatre with a dramatic background!
Advantages: spectacular backdrop of the sea, very cheap
Disadvantages: performances only of an evening
...Previously when I have been to Cornwall and the weather has been good we have spent most of our time on the many beaches. This time however the weather was poor, with lots of wind and rain - not the sort of weather you want to be sitting on the beach in, unless you're a surfer of course and then I suppose it is ideal! This didn't really matter too much though because it gave us a chance to visit many of the famous sights and attractions. We visited lots of places including Saint Michaels Mount and the Eden Project, but probably the most charming thing that we visited was the Minack Theatre in Porthcurno. Unlike many of the other attractions it had a real Cornish feel to it and was really worth seeing.
For those of you who have never heard of the Minack Theatre (and that's probably most of you) it's a really spectacular place...

My Fair Lady, Theatre Royal
Advantages: Fantastic show, brilliant performance by all concerned
Disadvantages: No Martine, books up well in advance
...I'm a huge Martine McCutcheon fan, so when I read that she was going to be starring in the musical 'My Fair Lady' in the West End, I was eager to get tickets. However, I couldn't obtain any tickets for her debut at the National Theatre as they sold out too quickly, but was told it would be transferring to the Theatre Royal in June 2001. Having got onto an "advance ticket warning" list, I was notified when they went on sale and phoned immediately for tickets for the Wednesday matinee on my birthday. The ticket office staff were very patient and helpful, explaining where the different priced seats were located - not being a regular theatre-goer, this was essential for me. Tickets purchased, I was one happy bunny and looking forward to a good day out.
The best laid plans, and all that... It was then reported that Martine would not...
