An interesting musical get-together! : The Long Black Veil

Advantages: Great musicianship from Ry Cooder and The Chieftains, the final track is utterly superb
Disadvantages: A couple of weak tracks, a couple of poor performances from the guests

It reached no.17 in the UK album charts in February of 1995, which does surprise me as I have (possibly mistakenly) always believed The Chieftains to be a rather specialist band of musicians/singers. Long, Black Veil

Advantages: Great sound, very different, interesting guest singers
Disadvantages: Not a sound that everyone will find they like

...I have always had trouble writing music ops. I find it very difficult in transferring one medium (music) into another (writing). But I thought I would give it a stab with one of my all time favorite albums. Long Black Veil by the Chieftains is probably one of my top ten favorite’s albums of all time. Now, I will admit that it is not popular music, nor it is it for everyone. Many people would find it an odd choice. Irish music isn’t for everyone. However, I think this album may have more general appeal than the other albums by the Chieftains. Why would I think that? Because this album isn’t just the Chieftains. It is songs played by the Chieftains but the songs are sung by a variety of popular singers, such as Mick Jagger and Sting. Now, I know what you must be thinking. Back to black but not for long!

Advantages: covers up tired bumpers
Disadvantages: doesn't last

...the lid is a sponge applicator, so all you have to do is rub it on the bumper and it paints it on. This ?no mess? application process is fantastic and makes up for the fact that the product doesn?t last very long once applied! The actual liquid is quite thick and goes on wet and shiny. After a few minutes it dries leaving a matt finish that is a lot darker. *My experience* I did the bumpers and they looked fantastic. They made the car look years younger and I even used the product on the tyres to give it that show room finish! I took some great pictures and had some people showing interest in the car. However by the time they came to test drive the car, the black had faded so I had to give it another coat. I think it lasted about a week or so before needing a top up. I was quite disappointed and glad that my new car was not going...
