Wulise in Looe

Advantages: Full of history, with plenty of places to visit.
Disadvantages: Very crowded during the summer months.

...Shane and I now live in a small Cornish town about twenty miles along the coast from the quaint fishing towns of Looe. Looe is the principal seaside town of southeast Cornwall; with Looe harbour being the base for an important fishing fleet for England and it is also the headquarters for the British shark fishing. As well as having an excellent dive centre in West Looe at Hannafore. The town itself consists of many quaint narrow streets, shops, restaurants and oldie worldly charm that many tourists are looking for, whilst managing to provide excellent tourist facilities at the same time as maintaining the traditional fishing industries. You can catch the ferry to the other side of the bay or take one of the many boat/fishing trips. (Not one thing I have experienced yet as I get sea sick on a peddlow!) I prefer to watch the fishing...

Pretty Looe

Advantages: A pretty part of Cornwall
Disadvantages: Steep paths a bit hard on the legs

...Looe is situated in south-east Cornwall and is built on the estuary of two rivers. East Looe and West Looe are joined across the estuary by a broad seven arched bridge. The labyrinth of narrow streets rise steeply from the river up the sides of the valley so if your hotel is at the top be prepared to get some exercise, whether you want it or not! Looe used to be a pilchard fishing community but the arrival of the railway in 1859 brought the first summer visitors and tourism has been strong in the town ever since. The quayside is still lined with fishing boats and you can go on a shark fishing expedition if you’re feeling brave. For anglers who prefer to keep their feet on dry land there is a circular area at the end of Banjo Pier, which is ideal for fishing. There are the usual gift shops you would associate with any sea...

Rivers, boats and shoes.

Advantages: Good walks, shopping, things to do for all the family.
Disadvantages: Can get crowded in town centre, reliant on the tide.

...I was thirteen years old when I first visited Looe in Cornwall. I am now forty-six. It lies exactly 22 miles west of Plymouth by road. I have checked the mileage countless times. I still get Goosebumps as it suddenly appears on the approach road from Plymouth. The first view is of the bridge and river separating East and West Looe. My lasting memory at that age was walking the two miles back to our campsite with my Father in a soaking drizzle and the pure ruggedness of it all. But the memory stayed with me and I promised one day I would return. I found it a very special place. I had to wait eight years for the next opportunity and together with my wife and at the time our only child Michelle (aged 18 months) we returned in a battered old Vauxhall viva, my first ever car. We left London late at night so we ended up sleeping...

Tiny teddies, farting cats and Clive

Advantages: Quaint unspoilt gorgeous little town, and Clive's cat's!
Disadvantages: Could possibly suffer with an overabundance of tourists at the height of Summer

...Hullo there! I’m back! Fully recovered from my evil bout of flu. Normal service about to be resumed. Is anything ever ‘normal’ as far as I am concerned? Nah!! Ok, on with the Cornish ops! This time its Looe that I want to tell you about. So before you get comfortable may I suggest you nip off to the other loo and hurry on back for another ‘scatty’ epic! We visited several towns and villages while we were in Cornwall last month, some of which I have no desire to pay a return visit to but this is not one of those places. I would go and live in Looe tomorrow if I had the chance! We actually came across it more by accident on our way back from Plymouth. We weren’t all that keen on that place but then to be fair to it we didn’t really get to see much of it and I will keep an open mind...

Looe, Millendreath Cornwall !

Advantages: POTENTIAL TO BECOME SANDBANKS, poole
Disadvantages: IGNORING THIS PLACE

...Looe in Cornwall was our destination for our vacation. It was close by 2100 hrs, and we made our track down the lane towards the local beach, Millendreath. At first it seemed ok, not overly steep. As we proceeded, I tried to envisage the steepness of this so called descending trek. I needed to set my mind at rest, so I stopped a passer by; to acquire more Gen on the local beach, Millendreath. He confirmed what the farmer's wife had told me earlier. Its 2 miles from here, the man answered, but it's very steep nearer the bottom. We carried on and sure enough it did begin to descend dramatically. It got steeper and steeper and the trees became more and more dense, I felt this could be the spanner in the works. I began to reflect, I asked myself, will it be capable to see in the dark on our return journey, with this much...

Looe in Cornwall - An English jewel

Advantages: Friendly, quaint, good shops and food, fishing trips, feels like abroad
Disadvantages: Need a car to drive to the village as public transport in Cornwall is not great!

...Looe in Cornwall is a quaint little village with lots to offer. I discovered it back in 2008 and couldn?t wait to visit it again this year while holidaying in Cornwall. It is about 40 mins away from Newquay and you could be forgiven for thinking you was abroad when you arrive there. The whole place is built around a locke which goes out to the sea. There are plenty of cosey, back-street resturants offering fresh fish caught the same day it is served. The resturants range from seafood to Italian to good old English comfort food, there is something for everyone. If you don?t fancy dinner you can grab a drink at one of the local pubs and then afterwards take a stroll along the water front along to the beach and let the world pass you by. If you get there earlia on in the day you can grab some bargains at one of the many...

Looe bay Holiday caravan Park

Advantages: Beautiful part of the country
Disadvantages: Long drive form London.

...I've recently come back from a break in Cornwall with my two chidren and had such a good time that i wanted to share my experience with you. If you have a family and are looking for a cheap break away for a few nights Looe Bay Holiday caravan Park is idea. I booked my holiday with Weststar Holiday Parks the company that own Looe bay caravan site. They also have other parks Mullion holiday park on the Lizard Peninsula, Sandford Holiday park in Dorset and Hayling Island Holiday Park Just between Portsmouth and Chichester. I decided to book my stay for Looe bay as it meant we would be nearer to where my parent in laws live in Liskeard. East Looe Looe is a beautiful traditional Pretty Fishing Village it has a harbour and a sandy beach there are plenty of shops, restaurants and pubs to walk around. It can get very busy...

LOOE BAY HOLIDAY PARK IS WELL WORTH A VISIT

Advantages: Excellent on site entertainment, extremely good value for money and a very good choice for families with children ofall ages.
Disadvantages: not able to walk to Looe itself - winding country roads notvery safefor walking on.

...We paid our first visit to Looe Bay Holiday Park last year when our children were 18 months and 3and a half and we couldn't have wished for a better place to have picked. We got there quite early - just before 10am- aswe like to leave home as the children will sleep for a lot of the journey. We were informed that when our caravan was ready to move into, thre would bea tick against our number on the board so we could cme and go as we wished. Not having had anybreakfast,we went into the resaurant and had sausage and bacon sandwiches to keep us going. On getting into our caravan,we found it to be quite spacious - ampleroomfor the four of us. It had the usual bedroom with double bed, 2ndbedroom with 2 single beds, bathroom with shower, lounge area and kitchen with fridge and cooker. The site seemed to be full of families - not one group...

Beautiful

Advantages: Plenty for everyone
Disadvantages: Overcrowded roads in the summer

...I love Cornwall and it is an easy day trip for me living in Devon. There are quaint fishing villages as in Looe and Polpero, the magic of history in Tintagel when you can imagine King Arthur and his knights, Truro is excellant for shopping and has a wonderful cathedral, then of course there is surfing, especially on the north coast, for the more active, espcially around the Bude and Newquay areas. Whether you want peace and quiet or an active nightlife Cornwall will suit you. There is plenty for children to enjoy, from pleasure parks, the Zoo at Newquay or a donkey sanctuary and of course there is always the traditional Cornish Pastie to be tasted....
