My Precious ( lord of the rings trilogy)
Advantages: best dvd collection you can own,
Disadvantages: need plenty of time to see the film
...Pretty sure that this film "LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY " have been reviewed many times. But I would still like to share my experience with this brilliant film by Peter Jackson. Everything about this film is perfect! I would suggest you to sit tight and don't let anyone disturb you while watching it, you will definitely miss something important if you did. Actually it happened to me so i just warn you! Don't make the same mistake as i did. Luckily i have the DVD set and i can watch it anytime i want to. Anyways here are some briefing on what to expect.
The Lord of the Rings film trilogy consists of three live action fantasy epic films: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Two Towers (2002) and The Return of the King (2003). The trilogy is based on the three-volume book The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. While they follow...

Good Lord!
Advantages: Tasty, well balanced session strength bitter.
Disadvantages: Not the bestest Thornbridge beer!
...In the latest in my series of reviews about the beers from one of my local breweries I would like to tell you about one of their selection that seems to be the most readily available in my area at the moment. Over the past few weeks we have been out and about sampling beers in some of our local pubs ~ these pubs were all contenders in our local Spring Pub of the Season award. Out of the ones we visited some of them had beers on offer from Thornbridge and the name that cropped up most often was Lord Marples.
As a person who likes to support their local breweries it seemed churlish not to give them a try (and it also gave me a chance to try a quality control test by drinking the same brand in a few different places).
~~~THE BREWERY.
The "Baby Brewery" at Thornbridge Hall is so called because it started off as a kind of off...
Lord of the Flies
Advantages: engaging interesting story
Disadvantages: Some wooden acting, editing of the film
...Lord of the Flies ? 1963
Today, this story is probably not as powerful as it was back in 1963 when it was filmed or in 1954 when William Golding?s book was published. These days we have all become desensitised to the violence and random, meaningless killings that seem to happen on a daily basis, especially in this day and age when children whom are only three or four years older than those depicted in the film do far worse things than was ever shown within the running time of this feature. It could be said however that the film was a premonition of how lousy things were to become in the early 21st century.
The film is set during an unspecified period of time where tensions about Nuclear holocaust are running high. Children are being evacuated, although they are being evacuated from the country rather than out to the country side...
Lord of the Flies
Advantages: Good for school level as people of similar age in story
Disadvantages: Can be long and repetitive at times
..."How does William Golding's "Lord of the Flies" explore human nature?" In your answer you should mention Golding's use of symbolism, characterisation, setting or any other appropriate feature that helps to develop the writer's theme.
William Golding's "Lord of the Flies" artfully sets out to explore the vital theme of human nature. The novel is in response to the atrocity of the holocaust and asks how our human nature allowed this evil to take place. Golding sets out to answer the question "Are we all potentially evil?" Golding questions our human nature by describing a group of young teenage boys onto an idyllic deserted island. Slowly through the book the perfect world descends into chaos and savagery.
To question our human nature Golding uses a broad spectrum of believable characters. There are no adults, only children...
Darren Shan - Lord Loss
Advantages: Very easy to read and to get into. very humouress along with gripping.
Disadvantages: you really only get it in its full glory if the sequels are read.
...Lord Loss is the first book of the ten book saga of the ?Demonata?writtenby Darren Shan. The Demonata is the second series that Shan has written coming after the widely successful Saga of Darren Shan (aptly named I guess). ?Lord Loss? was released June 6th 2005 within the UK. Darren Shan is the number one best seller of teenage horror but I would really like to point out that he is often refered to as a childrens auther but a lot of the material in this book begs to differ and is vey obviously not for the very young but ill go into that more later.
The book itself is easily readable with large font and is set out in a very easy to follow way, written in first person it folllows the unfortunate events that surround a teenage boy ?Grubbs Grady?. The paper back version of the book has a glow in the dark cover which gives quite a cool...
Lording it over other books on Troy
Advantages: Good characters, an interesting take on Troy and its heroes
Disadvantages: The romance element
...?Lord of the Silver Bow? is the first book in a trilogy about Troy and was one that I had thought about reading for a while. Having finally picked it up in the library, I?m certainly glad I did. I found this a very readable book and very enjoyable. It was easy to get into despite the subject matter being based on the classic tale of the Iliad and the stuff of legend.
Gemmell switches between different characters and so the story is never seen from only one viewpoint. The book begins before the war and the siege of Troy by the Greek states and so acts as a scene setter ? we are shown the various characters of the nations involved.
Troy is shown to be an ostentatious place, wealthy beyond belief and very strong in its alliances. However, Priam, the king of Troy, is not well liked among his subjects and peers and is constantly thwarting...
Lord of the Cinema
Advantages: Fantastic Effects
Disadvantages: pins and needles sitting in cinema
...Wasn't keen to see this in cinema at first because it was so long, persuaded by my hubby, loved it so much, went along another couple of times, WOW!
Man, director Peter Jackson is 2 for 2 for Lord of the Rings. Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is the second part in what many are in my opinion correctly saying is the greatest trilogy in film. LOTR: TTT is just as good as Fellowship, in fact I thought it was better (effects blew me away).
New characters are introduced and they are just as interesting as the great cast of the first film. Bernard Hill is noticeably good as King Theoden who has a powerful scene at the grave of his son. I also liked Faramir. Yes, he is different from the book but I thought David Wenham's performance was heartfelt and real. Miranda Otto(Eowyn), Karl Urban(Eomer), and Brad Dourif(Grima Wormtongue) round...
Lord of the hype
Advantages: A modern day masterpiece which is thoroughly engrossing
Disadvantages: Too much hype and press attention given to it, can we not just watch the film?!
...Undoubtedly one of the finest film productions created in the last decade. It has everything that you would wish to have from the book projected onto the screen. The effects, camera work, direction and to a lesser extent the acting was to the highest standard. When you finish watching it the only thing you really want to do is watch it again. However there is a sour note, i was drawn to the cinema following an unnecessarily large advertising ploy and promotional this that and the other. Have we not gone too far, is there ever going to be a film to live off it's own actual merit without the mass media and advertising world forcing it into every nook and cranny. Just look at Harry Potter an awful film, but the press have absorbed it and promoted since day one. Lord of the rings has one thing that Harry Potter didn't have all round...
The ultimate Lord of the Rings experience
Advantages: Extended sequences, hundreds of special features, beautiful artwork
Disadvantages: Films are presented on 2 DVDs rather than 1
...This mind-blowing extended trilogy box-set of the immensely popular Lord of the Rings films is an absolute must-have for any fan of the series or fantasy stories of any kind. Gorgeously presented and smothered in artwork, each film is presented in its seamlessly extended form alongside an innumerable number of well-organised special features. A joy to watch, a joy to own; the ultimate Lord of the Rings experience.
Each film is extended by a minimum of half an hour, and up to 45 minutes in the case of the third film. These extensions include entire extra scenes lasting several minutes, or are sometimes extensions of scenes that were already screened in the cinema. Which scenes are extended and which scenes are added are marked clearly in the chapter lists both on the DVD menus and within the accompanying inlays.
The extensions add...
