Review of The Lord Of The Rings - The Fellowship Of The Ring DVD by paula_tanser

Advantages: Classic Masterpiece
Disadvantages: 2 Different formats, 2 DVD set now, 4 DVD set in November

...When Lord of the Rings was being released on DVD I couldn’t wait to buy it. (So I went out yesterday and bought the 2 DVD set). On the 1st disc there is the film Lord of the Rings – Fellowship of the ring c/w your options, Select a Scene, Play Movie etc. The movie itself I loved (as you can see from my opinion from 3rd February). This is the Widescreen version (although with DVD you can adjust the picture size from Widescreen to Pan & Scan to suit you. Personally I prefer Widescreen). On the 2nd disc you have all the special features listed below: The making of the Lord of the Rings (Welcome to Middle Earth) (Quest for the Ring) (A Passage to Middle Earth) You also have the various Featurettes which feature the making of the sets (from Hobbiton to Rivendell) and information of the actors from Sir Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood and Cate... The Lord of Animation
Review of Lord Of The Rings, The (Animated) by psybitch

Advantages: you dont have to wait 2 years to find out what happens next.
Disadvantages: bad animation but still watchable.

...If you have already seen The Lord of The Rings-The Fellowship of The Ring at the cinemas then im afraid that you may be a bit disappointed with The Lord of The Rings animated version. None the less i can still recommend watching it (especially if you just cant wait for the next 2 years to find out what happens next.) I still enjoyed it and i didnt watch it until after i had seen the film. So heres a bit about the DVD version, and incase you havent seen the film theres a bit about the story-line just for you. The Lord of The Rings animated version on DVD will take you into Middle-Earth, an enchanted land inhabitated by Hobbits, Heroes and wizards. The Hobbits live in the Shire, thats were we meet young Frodo who is caught up in an amazing adventure when a very dangerous and powerful ring is given to him by his Uncle Bilbo. Gandalf... Read review

The First Part of the Adventure.
Review of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by SPalmer83

Advantages: Fantastic characters and adventures.
Disadvantages: Not true to the book.

...This movie is bursting with adventure. It has amazing characters and creatures in it - some good and some bad. Hobbits. Elves. Dwarves. Wizards. Men. Orcs. And an evil that is trying to ruin the world. Sauron, The Dark Lord, is the creator of The One Ring - a ring made of pure evil. With this ring he planned to take over all of middle earth and wipe out all of mankind. But Sauron lost the ring, it was cut from his finger by Isildur. Without his ring, the Dark Lord was not so strong. Isildur took the ring and planned to do good with it, but the One Ring was not made for doing good and it got him killed. But that was thousands of years ago...The Fellowship of the Ring tells of how the ring had several owners since then. It tells how a Hobbit called Frodo becomes the new owner of the ring and the whole story is about his mission... Read review

Not long enough
Review of The Lord Of The Rings The Fellowship Of The Ring (Extended Version) (Wide Screen) by Nannon

Advantages: More for the Lord of the Rings READERS!
Disadvantages: We had to wait a year for it

...The extended LotR DVD is a masterpiece in terms of keeping to the original storyline, acting and special effects. For those of you who do not know the story it goes along the lines of this: A dark lord, Sauron, creates a Ring that controls many other rings and plans to take over Middle Earth, the (This is obviously a very oversimplified storyline!) first film sees Frodo, a small creature called a Hobbit, take this Ring on a journey to destroy it. This DVD has an extra half an hour added to the film as well as hours of 'Appendices'. The extra half hour encompasses scenes never shown in the original film and were in the book. The extra scenes are mainly designed for the fans who know the book well, so for just movie watchers it doesn't really offer much extra. The 'Appendices' have hours of behind the signs footage, a wonderful insight... Read review

Lord of the Cinema
Review of The Lord Of The Rings - The Two Towers DVD by herby30

Advantages: Fantastic Effects
Disadvantages: pins and needles sitting in cinema

...Wasn't keen to see this in cinema at first because it was so long, persuaded by my hubby, loved it so much, went along another couple of times, WOW! Man, director Peter Jackson is 2 for 2 for Lord of the Rings. Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is the second part in what many are in my opinion correctly saying is the greatest trilogy in film. LOTR: TTT is just as good as Fellowship, in fact I thought it was better (effects blew me away). New characters are introduced and they are just as interesting as the great cast of the first film. Bernard Hill is noticeably good as King Theoden who has a powerful scene at the grave of his son. I also liked Faramir. Yes, he is different from the book but I thought David Wenham's performance was heartfelt and real. Miranda Otto(Eowyn), Karl Urban(Eomer), and Brad Dourif(Grima Wormtongue) round out... Read review

The waiting has ended
Review of The Lord Of The Rings - The Two Towers DVD by kristeena

Advantages: A continuation of an epic, The story continued following the book and was pleasantly easier to watch than the book was to read.
Disadvantages: Any disadvantages were from the nature of the original book, tended to jump around a bit.

...The Lord of the Rings - Two Towers was a long awaited second film. I waited for this with great anticipation of another fantastic film to follow the last. After reading Lord Of The Rings and becoming bored half way through the book I was pleasantly surprised with how the directors achieved a balance of action that kept my interest throughout the film. With the material that they were dealing with I admire the way this was achieved. A good mix of emotions from the edge of the seat stuff to a few ahh's. It is a very long film which kept a packed audience quiet throughout. I would reccomend this film to anyone who enjoys escaping from the real world and who appriciates a dedication by the makers to produce an outstanding film both in location, acting ability and good editing. It needs to be watched after the first as if watched alone I do... Read review

Arghhh, those silly rings
Review of The Lord Of The Rings - The Fellowship Of The Ring DVD by Neoxxy

Advantages: amazing graphics,and sounds
Disadvantages: slow character development

...Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot. When I first saw the movie poster I thought the movie would be stupid. Then I heard everyone talking about it and rating it 4 of 5 stars, so I went to see it. Unfortunately, I was proven right. Maybe if I had read the book the movie would make more sense. However, I believe a film should stand on its own. In my opinion, this one did not. Let's start with the title - "Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring." My high school English teacher would have taken point off my homework if I had come up with a title like that. Couldn't they just call it "LOFR: The Fellowship" or something less redundant? But that's being picky if the movie itself is good. Now we get to the film. For starters I quickly became confused with the ring math: 3 rings, plus 7 rings, plus 9... Read review

Best film created yet
Review of The Lord Of The Rings - The Fellowship Of The Ring DVD by vhuzzell

Advantages: Fabulous Special Effects
Disadvantages: 2nd DVD Edition to follow

...I bought the Lord of the Rings (Fellowship of the Ring) DVD 2 disk edition quite recently. Having watched it at the cinema when it was released, I knew that it was a film that i wanted in my DVD collection. It didn't matter if you hadn't read the book, and didn't disappoint if you had. The story was extremely well developed from Book to Film. The extras on the DVD were good, but in some cases repetitive, with the same comments repeated in different parts of the 'Extras' I was also disappointed to find out from the two disc set that a four disc set is going to be released in the future, with more special effects and content, to include extra footage not previously shown. The Director comments during the interview on the disc that he is not a fan of 'Directors Cuts' - but I do not believe it would make the film as released to cinemas... Read review

The ultimate Lord of the Rings experience
Review of The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Extended Editions) by Aquillyne

Advantages: Extended sequences, hundreds of special features, beautiful artwork
Disadvantages: Films are presented on 2 DVDs rather than 1

...This mind-blowing extended trilogy box-set of the immensely popular Lord of the Rings films is an absolute must-have for any fan of the series or fantasy stories of any kind. Gorgeously presented and smothered in artwork, each film is presented in its seamlessly extended form alongside an innumerable number of well-organised special features. A joy to watch, a joy to own; the ultimate Lord of the Rings experience. Each film is extended by a minimum of half an hour, and up to 45 minutes in the case of the third film. These extensions include entire extra scenes lasting several minutes, or are sometimes extensions of scenes that were already screened in the cinema. Which scenes are extended and which scenes are added are marked clearly in the chapter lists both on the DVD menus and within the accompanying inlays. The extensions add... Read review

Could this be the muppets on drugs
Review of Meet The Feebles DVD by kwildchild

Advantages: Completely Mental
Disadvantages: Not to everyone's taste

...you've seen it. It's a brilliant take on an adult version of the muppets, probably the only you'll get, and after watching 'Meet The Feebles' you'll sit there and say: "My god this is the same Peter Jackson that has created the superb 'Lord Of The Rings Trilogy'" and answer would be yes it is. So give it a try, but be warned there's plenty of sex, blood, gore and loads of laughs. Other Films Directed By Peter Jackson: The Valley (1976) Bad Taste (1987) Meet The Feebles (1989) aka Just the Feebles Braindead (1992) aka Dead Alive Heavenly Creatures (1994) Forgotten Silver (1995) The Frighteners (1997) Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The (2001) Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The (2002) Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, The (2003)...
