We are big fans of Yamaha's excellent new entry-level RX-V373, but it is important to remember that its big brother, the RX-V473, offers quite a lot more - for not much more money. The 474's RRP is just £90 more than the 373, yet you get more power (5 x 115w), plus networking, plus Apple Airplay, plus heavier construction, plus proper speaker binding posts throughout, plus compatibility with Yamaha's excellent free AV Contoller app. Many people would view these additions as 'must haves', which makes the 473 brilliant value for money, compared the competition (for example, Onkyo's new TX-NR414, which offers less than the 473, yet actually costs £60 more!). Of course, the 473 still has all the other features found on the 373 - including four HDMI 1.4 inputs with Dolby True HD, plus 4K pass-through, plus Audio Return, plus standby HDMI pass-through, plus four 'speed-dial' scene buttons, plus a very helpful auto-calibration microphone set-up (which does the initial set-up for you) plus an excellent front iPod USB input.

Home cinema showcases dont come much more vibrant than the visually brilliant Happy Feet Two. Astonishingly well presented, in crystal clear 1080p, its a film that, from the off, rewards any decent investment made in home cinema equipment. 3D, too, has a habit of working best in animated productions, and theres ample evidence of that on offer here. Its not quite dancing penguins leaping off the screen, but its not too far off. Not that the film needs expensive hardware, though, to work its charms. Taking its cue from the original, Happy Feet Two once more integrates toe-tapping music, lots of penguins, and no shortage of comedy. Its the music that lifts the film and gives it its distinction, though. Wonderfully staged, the musical numbers are great fun, and the heart of the family entertainment that the film offers. The Blu-ray also builds heavily on the family appeal, with some welcome features for younger audience members. The sing-a-long songs encourage you to join in with the musical mayhem, for instance, and are some of the highlights of the supplements. Look, too, at the How To Draw A Penguin guide. Perhaps its all a little shy on detailed making of material, but then Happy Feet Two, both the film and the Blu-ray, have been put together with entertaining a younger audience in mind. And whilst the movie itself isnt the equal of its Oscar-winning forerunner, its still good fun, and unlikely to leave you feeling shortchanged.
