Abbott and Costello DOUBLE BILL.

Advantages: Simply superb
Disadvantages: Nothing

...Abbott And Costello Meet The Killer and Hyde. The Boys: Bud Abbott was born in1895 in New Jersey, USA. Surprisingly Lou Costello was born 1906 also in New Jersey, USA. They had both toured in ?Burlesque? but had only limited success until teaming up in 1936. But it wasn?t until 1940 until they where signed by ?Universal? and went on to make their first movie ?Night in the Tropics?. By 1950 there Star was starting to fade. Also, not all was well between the boys, as at times throughout their career together, Bud had a 60/40 split on their earnings and this had always irked Lou. Later it would surface and eventually along with the drinking and gambling and being chased by huge Tax bills, they eventually split in 1957. Sadly Lou Costello died 2 years later in 1959. Bud Abbott however lived until...

The Fratellis - Costello Music

Advantages: An excellent debut album
Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!

...Born and bread in Scotland, The Fratellis are proving to the world that there?s reason to get excited about the world of rock n? roll at the moment with their debut outing ?Costello Music? Personally, the Arctic Monkeys are the best ?new? band I?ve heard in the past eighteen months?the Fratellis however must come a very respectable second. With my constant deploring on ?NME-esque? bands, the Fratellis offer up something different to the norm. Jumpy, exciting, addictive music. After originally releasing it about a year ago, ?Chelsea Dagger? would be most people?s first taste of the band, and many would have been caught almost unaware of chanting the chorus in their head back and forth and tapping their feet to the rhythm for the rest of the day after having heard it on the TV or radio. That song set their benchmark and after...

Abbott and Costello meet FRANKENSTIEN

Advantages: Still funny today
Disadvantages: None

...Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. = ~Intro duction~ The wonderful Abbot and Costello are here in probably their best film. They get to poke fun at not just Frankenstein (Glenn Strange) but also Dracula (Bela Lugosi) and the Wolfman (Lon Chaney Jr.). Get ready for a timeless rib tickling comedic fest. ~Synopsis~ Abbott and Costello are baggage handlers until that is a rather strange package turns up, Dracula! He has brought with him a weakened Frankenstein monster and soon decides that Abbots brain would do nicely inside of Frankenstein head, well, Abbot is understandably not too keen on this and so begins 90 Minutes of pure comedic fun. Meanwhile the Wolfman arrives from London with plans of destroying Dracula. But Dracula bites the Wolfmans girlfriend and captures Abbott, it is then...

FREE DVDs

Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review

...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them. ∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊ Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Mistrial - Lou Reed

Advantages: a couple of decent songs
Disadvantages: too much avearge material and average production

...Arguably the least regarded Lou Reed album, Mistrial just seems to receive indifference from most people. It doesn't upset anyone, like Metal Machine Music did, nor does it excite audiences in the way that Transformer did. Mistrial consists of ten average songs, played competently, sung ok, and produced ok. And that's about it. There's nothing that really stands out, the resolutely 1986 production utilises very basic drum machines for the first and last time in Lou's history, and everything sounds rather boomy and upfront, but hollow and lacking in substance. The ttle track at least features a cracking melody, but Mama's Got A Lover, whilst not a bad song, sounds like a bad Lloyd Cole copy. A rather bizarre achievment sounds like a bad copy of someone who sounds like a bad copy of Lou Reed. "Video Violence" has a sparky sound but...

Bud and Lou meet The keystone cops and The Foreign Legion

Advantages: Double trouble for the boys but excellent comedy
Disadvantages: Nothing

Lou's Best Moment

Advantages: Totally original
Disadvantages: none

...Tracklisting 1. Berlin 2. Lady Day 3. Men Of Good Fortune 4. Caroline Says I 5. How Do You Think It Feels 6. Oh, Jim 7. Caroline Says II 8. Kids, The 9. Bed, The 10. Sad Song I wouldn't recommend this album to anyone who has just bought Transformer because they like Perfect day or Walk on the Wild Side or anyone with just a passing interest in the man. This is not an easy listen - its Lou Reeds concept album about the breakdown of a marriage between Jim & Caroline and the mental collapse that follows. It was produced by Bob Ezrin - a legendary producer who has worked with everyone from Lou to Pink Floyd to Janes Addiction - and the album sounds like it was recorded in Reeds head. Opening song Berlin sets the tone with its creepy opening bars and its sparse lyrics about how they met by the Berlin Wall...

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein.

Advantages: GREAT FILM
Disadvantages: NOTHING

...Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. --------------------------------------------------- I remember first seeing this when I was a kid, it was even a repeat then, I am not that old! Bud Abbott and Lou Costello are working at a train station as baggage handlers when a very odd looking character gets off the train and offers them extras cash to get his cases and trunks up to a scary and deserted house way out in the middle of nowhere. The boys take the bags and crates up to the mansion only to discover that it is actually Dracula and Frankenstein. Dracula wants to swap Lous brain and put it into Frankenstein! The usual chaos and mayhem ensues and just as all seems lost a new arrival saves them. The Wolfman arrives and wants to kill Dracula. Starring Bela Lugosi as Dracula Glenn Strange as Frankenstein Lon Chaney Jr...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...
