Fletcher offers a straight bat
Advantages: Interesting look into top-level cricket, good coaching pointers too
Disadvantages: Sometimes suffers from being too defensive
...England's Ashes win of 2005 is the highpoint of English cricket so far this century, and probably the most memorable test series since Botham's Ashes in 1981.
The man who plotted the 2-1 win over the Aussies, coach Duncan Fletcher, enjoyed an eight-year term as England's main man (outlasting several England football managers during that time), until his resignation at the end of the 2007 World Cup.
Fletcher was never the most dynamic character and clearly didn't enjoy dealing with the press or taking centre stage, hence the title and a suitably 'undercover' picture on the sleeve for his autobiography, 'Behind The Shades'.
THE BOOK - BACKGROUND DETAILS
Co-written by Steve James, the ex-Glamorgan skipper turned writer (he assisted Fletcher in his previous book on the Ashes success), I'm reviewing the hardback version of this...

FREE DVDs
Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review
...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them.
∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊
Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Good Work, Louise Wener
Advantages: good characters, interesting plot with lots happening
Disadvantages: men aren't going to want to read it, but they should give it a try
...If you?re about my age, you?ll probably remember a band called Sleeper. They had a bit of success in the early 1990s, their biggest hit being ?Inbetweener?. I personally liked their first album, and not much else, and will freely admit to finding their singer, Louise Wener, an annoying, skinny tart.
Fast forward a few years later, and I spot a review of a book called ?Goodnight, Steve McQueen? by the erstwhile Ms Wener. Touted as a ?Nick Hornby? style romantic comedy novel, about a musician given an ultimatum by his girlfriend, I was intrigued. Wener obviously had the inside knowledge needed to make a book about a musician believable (in much the same way as Hornby wrote believably about a music fan), and yet her feminine touch would no doubt make it a light, bedtime read on nights when I might have otherwise chosen something by...

THELMA & LOUISE (1991) [FILM ONLY REVIEW]
Advantages: Hugely enjoyable, great performances, beautiful photography, a breathtaking and liberating ending
Disadvantages: Some improbable plot twists
...Ridley Scott's THELMA & LOUISE was released in 1991 to an unprecedented level of uproar against the film's chauvinist preoccupation, but how much of it is true?
Louise talks her best friend, bored housewife Thelma, into packing together some bags and taking off for the weekend. Notwithstanding her overbearing husband's wishes for her to remain at home like she's expected to, Thelma agrees and, leaving him a microwave dinner and a beer, she joins Louise in her classic ThunderBird '66 car, packing it to the brim with everything but her kitchen sink, to cruise the highways, smoke cigarettes, sing Aretha Franklin inspired songs and enjoy America's beautiful great outdoors.
At a country bar along the way they have one too many drinks and Thelma gets involved with a charming cowboy who in one moment, like a gentleman, escorts her...

Glamour: Not Louise Bagshawe's best effort
Advantages: Good characters, escapist literature
Disadvantages: Unrealistic, doesnt seem overly thought out
...I have been a fan of Louise Bagshawe for a good few years now, and when I heard she had bought out another book, I decided to purchase it in hardback, something I don't really do, but this was on special offer. I did have a quick look on Amazon before I ordered the book and was shocked by the low ratings people have given the book. I do in a way understand why they have rated it low, but I will explain why I am giving it 3 stars as I go through the review.
*The Author*
Louise Bagshawe has written many successful novels, and is now a parliamentary candidate for the Conservative party. Her sister is also a successful novelist. For more imformation on the author please see www.louise-bagshawe.com
*The Novel*
The story "Glamour" follows 3 young women through turbulent times in their life, and their struggle to come through...

Lake Louise Inn
Advantages: Beautiful Location, Amazing skiing!
Disadvantages: Mayhem, Absolute mayhem
...When we first arrived at Lake Louise Inn we immediately got an impression of the mayhem that would follow...
We arrived late at night, and due to some confusion with an upgrade we had made were sent to the wrong room by a bemused night porter. There were five of us- the room we were sent to had only two beds...? Two of our party returned to reception to try to sort out the problem whilst the other three of us huddled in the doorway of the wrong room trying to escape the freezing conditions.
Whilst waiting we got talking to a young Canadian man who had got locked out of his room in just a t-shirt and trousers. He was on a business trip and his door lock (card-reader) had malfunctioned and all his work was locked inside. The night security guards attempt to solve the problem did not fill us with confidence about our own problems...

Lake Louise - A beginners perspective
Advantages: so many
Disadvantages: none
...Skiing at Lake Louise was such an amazing experience for me. I went for a week at the very end of the season this year and it was the best snow I have ever seen!
This was only my second time skiing (the first was France at christmas) and has helped boost my confidence so much. The runs are very wide and there are some great long runs for beginners. From every lift there is a green run which meant i could spend a lot more time with the rest of my party who are all a lot better skiiers than me. This also meant there were non of the panic attacks I had in France when I was getting pulled onto a lift without knowing where it lead to or which runs would let me get down.
Another really noticible difference to Europe is the queues for lifts, mainly there were non existant but when there was a bit of a queue you really notice there is...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54
Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.
...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied.
On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

Get naked with Louise
Advantages: Not one really bad song
Disadvantages: None really
...Aaaah, Louise now there'sa nice girl for you. Someone you'd like to take home to meet your parents (except she's married so you'll have to keep your bloody mits off her or Mr Redknapp will 'ave you). We can always rely upon Louise to belt out a good pop song or two and on here we have all 16 of them! So come on Lou, get your hits out!
1. Naked - Ooooh, this is saucy! It's all about getting erm... naked really. Quite an uptempo RnB number. 10/10, reached no.5.
2. Just a step from heaven - Louise did this one with Eternal but must have the rights to the song as she has plonked it on her album. RnB with a good twist of pop and dead catchy. 7/10, reached no.8.
3. Undivided Love - Carrying on with the faster hits this one has great vocals, great lyrics along with a feel-good dance beat. 10/10, reached no.5.
4. Stuck in the middle...
