Leuven - Beautiful, Accessible, Value for Money

Advantages: Beautiful old town, lots of good, inexpensive, restaurants, near to Brussels, university ambience
Disadvantages: Parking not easy, windy in winter

...Leuven (Louvain) is home to the oldest unviersity in the Low Countries, and is less than 30km to the east of the centre of Brussels. Its town hall (Stadhuis) is one of the finest buildings anywhere, and is at one end of a square where you can sit and drink coffee and watch the world go by. There are several other university buildings of interest, including the old library in Ladeuzeplein. There are several interesting churches, and the Begijnhof is worth taking a look at. Like many places in Belgium, the food is excellent, plentiful and inexpensive. We had a family lunch on Christmas day in the Troubadour restaurant in Tiensesestraat for 35 Euro /head including wine, while good lunches at other times in different restaurants seldom were more than 15 Euro. No mention of Leuven is complete without reference to the Stella Artois...

A beautiful medievil city with a young heart.

Advantages: Cheap, plenty of bars, good selection of resteraunts, historic city
Disadvantages: Students, busy main street, not ideal for tourism (yet).

The three K's

Advantages: I really enjoyed looking for names for my three children
Disadvantages: So many to choose from so little time.

Our third baby is very lucky to be here as when I found out that I was pregnant we had been through a really rough patch thanks to the girl that was interested in him the first night we met who caused no end of problems because he had told her he wasn't interested in her our third child is a beautiful baby girl we named Kassia Louvaine all of my children have unusual first names and quite old fashioned middle names and I did this for one reason when they are young they have young names but when they are older they can choose to use their middle names if they want to and also my two sons are named William after my grandfather and Brynley after my partners grandfather who unfortunately died shortly after I found out that I was pregnant and my daughter is Louvaine after my grandmother and I hope she inherits her...

BRUSSELS - BRUSSEL - BRUXELLES so good they named it thrice!

...operators spoke only Flemish. But the Flemish ones would at least speak English but NOT French. About 20 minutes to the East of Brussels is Lueven - the home of Stella Artois. Lueven has many cafes offering the wonderful drink - tea, an absolute must for the English abroad - and lots of Stella too. After years of Walloons calling it Louvain they (the Flemish) in 1965 finally said enough is enough and kicked them all out. The displaced settled below the linguistic divide, some 25 km to the south, in Louvain-La-Neuve. The typical fast food of Belgium is FRENCH FRIES and again FRANZOSICHER FRITZ and again FRITES FRANCAIS. These are mostly bought in 'FRITURES' (or French fries stands), which are like kiosks or portakabins, you will find on a lot of squares all around the city, on street corners, coin de la rue or op die ekke de straat...
