What NOT to call your neighbour!
Advantages: Rudolph Walker is great, mocks those that are racist
Disadvantages: The racist language (from both sides) is hard to take at times
...Eddie and Joan Booth are blessed with great neighbours in Bill and Barbara Reynolds; the only problem, for Eddie at least, is that they are from the West Indies. Eddie finds this very difficult to take, even going as far as to ask other neighbours to sign a petition to get them out. Thankfully, Joan and Barbara, who quickly become best friends, are able to handle their husbands, and an uneasy truce is drawn between Bill and Eddie - just as well, because not only do they live next door to each other, but they work together too. Can they remain friends? Or is the race divide just too much for them?
As a Very Best of...DVD, this has six episodes from the long-running seventies sitcom, which lasted for eight series and fifty-six episodes in all. The episodes seem rather unevenly chosen - two are from series one and four are from series...

Abuse your neighbour
Advantages: Shows people how not to behave, the occasional laugh
Disadvantages: Offensive, not that funny for a comedy
...brought out with the aim of showing those with racist tendencies the error of their ways. In the process though, it was felt necessary to show Eddie Booth, the most racist of all the characters, in all his glory, insulting Eddie for the colour of his skin at every turn. In his defence, Bill is almost as bad, but as it is Eddie that starts up every argument, the blame lies with him in my mind.
I don't think that there is much doubt that Love Thy Neighbour would not pass the censors in this day and age. Insults fired at Bill by Eddie include: 'sambo', 'chocolate drop', 'nig nog', 'choc ice'...the list goes on. Even more insulting is the manner in which the insults are delivered, as if there is no doubt in Eddie's mind, which of course there isn't, that he is right and non-whites are stupid and incompetent. Bill flings a few barbs back...

Love Thy Neighbour?
Advantages: Has potential to be a good thriller
Disadvantages: Holes in the plot make it difficult to follow
...Richard and Priscilla Parker have been happily married for years and so are not particularly inclined to get to know their new neighbours, the Otises. Eddy Otis, however, is a man who will not be ignored, and soon the Parkers are fast becoming close friends with Eddy and his wife, Kay. A little too close, in fact. Eddy suggests a wife swap for an evening, something that Richard initially turns down, although tempted. Before long though, he gives into temptation and the two swap wives for a night. Then Kay is brutally murdered and Richard is accused of the killing. But are things really as they seem? Could Eddy have something to do with the murder?
Packed with well-known actors and actresses, this early nineties thriller has the potential to be really good. Kevin Kline plays Richard Parker, and, although I am used to seeing him in...

***Summary of the film***
DJ, a preteen on the verge of puberty has what some will describe as an unhealthy obsession with his mysterious neighbour across the street, Nebbercracker. He spends most of his days watching him through a telescope at his bedroom window, taking notes on any unusual events in his notebook. However, when his parents go away for Halloween weekend leaving him in the hands of crotchety teenage babysitter Zee...

Love thy neighbour's house
Advantages: Entertaining
Disadvantages: More of the same
...and Sally Abbott, but Mike, played by Robin Stewart in the television series, is replaced by Robin Askwith. A new Trevor Lewis, the Abbotts' other neighbour, appears in the guise of Peter Butterworth. And Terry Scott and June Whitfield appear as the Abbotts' new neighbours, the Baines. The changes are, however, largely superficial, because it is Sid James' enormous personality that takes over the film - all other performances fade into the background next to his.
Although Sid James is undoubtedly the star of the film, he is ably assisted by his on-screen family. As Jean, Diana Coupland plays the middle-person between her husband and their young and trendy children, who have habits and interests that Sid can barely understand. Coupland does have a rather annoying voice, which gets increasingly shrill as she gets upset, but she isn't on...

Love or annhilate thy neighbour
Advantages: More options, more fun (for a while)
Disadvantages: Bit of a rip off, old
...are also new activities to help you train for jobs, aswell as toying with your Sim's. The chemistry set can lead to Sim experimentation and with the work bench you can craft gnomes that can either be sold, or left in your yard to explode on your neighbours. You can also buy items like a magic lattern or a vodoo doll, but I think the most noteable item of all is the Vibromatic Heart Bed. It allows your Sims to get naughty under the covers, although there are consequences too their actions. Previously you could only adopt or just have a baby by kissing a few times. Now they can actually make them. They still appear the same way though- no pregnancy. The downside is most new items cost a fortune. The robot cost eleven thousand Simoleans.
New problems- I'm not talking about computer problems, but aswell as new good times, Sims also new...

....
Although there are some happy times neighbours has also had some deaths well again quite a few, anyone remember when Jim Robinson had a heart attack and died, that was quite major at that time, or when Harold drowned whilst on holiday with Madge, only to have reappeared years later claming to have lost his memory. That was a storyline that I enjoyed, because it was something fresh, and was twisted everyone expected Harold to be dead, his character gone for good, but out of nowhere he pops back.
What about the recent plane crash that happened a few years back, when Paul's evil son planted a bomb on the plane, with most the residents on board. Harold having lost his son, daughter in law and grand daughter that night.
Whilst also having major storyline, neighbours has also had many sub small storylines that revolve around love, divorce...

Everybody needs good neighbours
Advantages: Famous actors, Australian setting
Disadvantages: None
...Everybody needs good Neighbours
One of my favourite Australian export shows is Neighbours and I have been a fan ever since I was a child, well over twenty years, as it first began airing in Australia in 1985 and in England in 1986! It is now shown on channel 5 in England.
The show revolves around Ramsay Street in the fictional Australia town of Erinsborough. Ramsay street is a cul-de-sac which enables the residents to pop into each other?s houses with relative ease and generally live up to their reputations as nosy neighbours. Most of the residents are friends but of course you always get fights and scandal with people living that close to one another.
I think this show works because it shows a street where you would actually like to be a resident. It makes the street look like fun and that you would love to have friends who...

Everybody needs good Neighbours!
Advantages: Got to see the sets
Disadvantages: Not what I expected
...Official Neighbours Tour
When I was in Melbourne I decided to go and see the Neighbours sets and areas they film at. When I was younger I loved the show and had got back into watching it in the time I was living in Australia.
**ITINERARY**
We booked the tour in the YHA hostel and I was disappointed they did not pick us up here. Instead we had to walk about 25 minutes down to their offices to check in at the Neighbours reception. In the leaflet we were promised a free souvenir gift which we never received.
We jumped onto a really worn bus with a rather uncomfortable seat. The tour guide informed us they were getting a new bus. Unfortunately this was no advantage to us. Instead we had to sit in the smelly heap of junk they called a bus. On the way to our first destination old footage of the soap was shown via a dvd (which could...

A Classic British Comedy!
Advantages: Classic British comedy, no silly political correctness.
Disadvantages: None, if only series like these could still be aired today without people being insulted!
...around Eddie and Bills "racist" views on each other, which is very comical, as they often try to do one over on each other. Eddie often claims to be superior to Bill, but Bill is usually the one who comes out on top.
Through all it's comments which would no doubt be found as shocking if it was to be aired again today, Love Thy Neighbour always seems to leave an impact with the viewer than neither race are better than each other. For that reason, this series was, and still should, be accepted as a good British comedy....
