An abuse of loyalty

Advantages: Worth more than not having one
Disadvantages: Not as good as the old schemes it replaced

...Many years ago, we had the co-op dividend. Effectively, a payment for doing shopping down at the local co-op. Then came the hugely popular Green Shield Stamps. Again, a reward scheme for doing business with selected companies. More recently, the likes of Boots, Sainsbury and Tesco have had reward cards that as many as 75% of their customers have. Using this measure, they are presumably successful. Other companies, notably Asda, suggest that reward schemes do not actually work (that means they do not increase sales) and add to costs and ultimately prices. A Question of Loyalty

Advantages: Excellent battlefield detail and great characters
Disadvantages: Some scenes not for the fainthearted

For me the two most enjoyable aspects of this book are Cornwell's detailed and gruesomely accurate battlefield descriptions and the fact that he manages to develop a large number of characters without glossing over their strengths or weaknesses. When I first saw this loyalty card I was exited by the fact that I could use it at Sainsbury's - my preferred supermarket. It can also be used at their petrol stations and also at BP garages. ...The Texaco loyalty petrol card is to Texaco, as the nectar card is to Sainsbury's. It is thheir way of saying thank you for shopping with them, and giving you rewards back in the way of points. Otherwise known as Texaco we.o.u ('we owe you'), you gain points for each and every purchase that you make at Texaco garages. OK, so the most obvious choise would be to buy petrol. But you can also use it when you buy a magazine, or just a bit of general shopping to help you on your journey. Just so long as you buy something, you can use your card. However, the only downfall though is that in order to get one whole point you have to spend one whole pound. But unlike with the pound, with the point there are no half measures!   This True-man's Loyalty Bowled Me Over.

Advantages: Enlightening, a must for cricket fans and human interest readers.

...The Tesco clubcard is a loyalty rewards scheme for those shoppers who spend their money in the store. I'm not entirely sure if this is the category for the loyalty card or the credit card so I will talk about both as I have a combined credit card that also acts as a rewards card. For every pound that you spend in a tesco store you receive one clubcard point and a hundred points is worth one pound. Now this may not sound like a great reward however once a quarter Tesco convert these points into vouchers with a monetary value. You can then redeem these vouchers towards the cost of your shopping at their face value.
