The novel begins in the present day with an old Lucia reminiscing about her past to Kit a young woman who lives in the same apartment block. Very soon we forget about Kit and are immersed in Lucia's world in 1950's New York. Lucia belongs to a very traditional Italian family with its old-fashioned values and the importance of family, respect, traditions and marrying into the right Italian family. ...A couple of weeks ago my friend and I went on a shopping expedition. We were nearly ready to go home empty handed when pal o?mine spotted a new book shop that boasted a 3 for £10 poster outside. St Lucia Botanical Garden - beauty on the slopes of the beast

Advantages: Peaceful and colourful stop, very lush
Disadvantages: Few.

...Like several others of the Windward Islands chain, St Lucia was formerly mainly divided into plantations and plantations principally grew sugar (now the main crop is bananas, although tourism is the main source of income). The plantations may have gone but often their names live on (like Sandy Lane in Barbados) and Soufriere is the former plantation in St Lucia which is the home of the St Lucia Botanical Gardens (also known at the Diamond Botanical Gardens). (Side note: If Soufriere sounds French, it is: St Lucia was changed hands repeatedly between the French and the British, belonging to each of the warring nations a total of 7 times each). Club St Lucia

Advantages: A great place when you get out and meet the locals
Disadvantages: very hot and humid and the roads are terrible

...Let me say firstly this is a review of my holiday at Club St Lucia, and as I did not go in to other resorts I can not comment on them, but my advise is do not ever go to Club St Lucia, as I will try to explain. Earlier this year we decided that it would be nice to book a really good All-inclusive holiday in the Caribbean, to make up for what has not been a good year. as you can imagine we were all very excited as we looked through the brochures and on the Internet to try and find the best place to take our Family of four.(my wife and I and our to children 3 and 16 years old) we wanted a room with two bedrooms and separate facilities so that we could all enjoy a bit of privacy, this obviously made our choice of resorts limited. Advantages: All-Inclusive, great food, entertainment, activities, accommodation

...I have just returned from a two-week all-inclusive holiday in Sandals St Lucia Golf Resort and Spar and it was fantastic. VALUE FOR MONEY At first the holiday appears expensive but I?d say it?s worth every penny. The resort is Ultra all-inclusive, which means that you don?t have to pay for a thing, except the presents to bring home! ROOM We opted for the basic room however, you can, for extra money upgrade your room to enjoy various other luxuries including your own private plunge pool! We were delighted with our accommodation. The room was beautiful and clean. It had air conditioning, a lovely four-poster, large TV with Sky, telephone, sofa, a large bathroom and our own patio. Disadvantages: Slightly to far to be able to walk to city centre

Lets go to St Loosha.

Advantages: Lovely scenery, hot.
Disadvantages: Need to be careful of the locals.

...I spent a week in St Lucia following a week in Antigua to see to contrasting parts of the Carribbean, which was great. It was only an hours flight from Antigua in a little aeroplaine, but a 9 hour flight home. The first thing that struck me in comparison, were the roads. There seemed to be a lot more roads, a bit like the roads over here, which were quite busy. However, there were still very beautiful parts of the Island without road so it did not detract at all from the overall beauty of the place. St Lucia (pronounced St Loosha), has a currency of dollars, Eastern Carribbean and US dollars though US appear to be prefered. It is in the 80`s in St Lucia, nice and hot so be sure to take lots of sun lotion. The rainy season is around April to November. For those of you who don`t know, Dr Doolittle was filmed in St Lucia...

Don't just read about it, discover it yourself

...One of my favourite holiday destinations has to be St. Lucia, in the West Indies, with a population of 153,000 people. It is 240 square miles in area, the capital being the town of Castries. The official language is English, but most locals also speak a French-based Creole Patois, which is pretty good fun to listen to, and also to attempt to learn. The currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (EC$), although U.S. dollars are also accepted on the island, in fact some people seem to prefer them. We stayed at the Papillon Hotel, and all-inclusive resort, part of the Rex Group, located at Rodney Bay. It's quite a trek from the airport, taking about 1 1/2 hours by road. Why Do I Always get the dud room?

Advantages: Some lovely rooms, great location and verty reasonable price.
Disadvantages: Not all rooms as nice, noisy air-con.

...Plaza, meaning it is close to restaurants, bars, internet cafes and shops as well as the smaller, but pleasant Santa Lucia Plaza. The airport is just outside town, and takes about 15 minutes by taxi. The bus terminal is a five minute taxi ride away. We arrived late at night, so I didn?t really get the feel for the hotel until the morning, where it turned out to be a more attractive hotel than I realised. Most of the rooms assigned to my traveling companions overlooked a pretty little plant filled courtyard or the pool. My room overlooked a corridor! This, of course, hindered the natural light in the room as there was no other window other than a tiny one in the bathroom. The room was simply furnished with a tiled floor, solid beds (one single and one double) with wooden frames, a bedside table, desk, TV and some open shelves...

...My husband and I visited St Lucia in August 2004 and I thought it was definitely worth a review. Unfortunately it was the sort of holiday that could be reviewed in 3 million words, but I'll try and keep it down to just two and a half million. St Lucia is part of the Windward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean. It is a very small island with two airports; one in the north, one in the south. We flew direct from Gatwick to the southern airport with Virgin. The airport was quite basic, but clean and reasonably well organised. Le Sport is near Castries (the capital city) which is in the northern part of the island so a trip was required. There are a few options: water taxi, taxi or helipcopter.
