Dress Your Best!
Advantages: Very popular with young children
Disadvantages: No lift-the-flap opportunities
...has made a zebra costume and the party begins!!
~ Illustrations ~
I am a big fan of the Lucy Cousin's illustrations in the Maisy series of books.
They are bright, large, simple and bold. The outlines of each character or object is in thick black pen and the rest is coloured in, in rich, vibrant colours.
The backgrounds are also very bright, not the bog standard white that is in so many children's books.
~ Style & Format ~
The text is quite simple and is in a large font. What is also good about the font is that there are no loops or cursive writing which makes it far easier for emergent readers to decipher.
There are alternate pages of text and illustrations and the children can see from the pictures what fancy dress costumes are available.

How Many Animals Can You Get In A Tent?
Advantages: Encourages teamwork and fun
Disadvantages: none
...***The Background***
The Maisy stories are all written by the wonderful Lucy Cousins and there are lots in the series to choose from in various forms. Whether your choice is paperback, hardback, board book or even an audio book you are sure to find one you like. You can also get sticker books too.
Lucy Cousins is a mother of four and this obviously helps her when it comes to writing books for young children as she is bound to have a good idea of what they like to read. As well as the books she has helped develop a TV show of her famous character that you can see on Noggin on satellite TV.
***The Characters***
Maisy has a few friends that help share in her everyday adventures. They are a very mixed bunch and remind me a bit of the selection of toy animals in my own son's bedroom.
Cyril the Squirrel
Tallulah the Chick...

What colour is this?
Advantages: Helps children learn their colours.
Disadvantages: None but I would have liked more colours to have been included.
...~ Lucy Cousins and The Maisy Books ~
Maisy's Colour Collection is a picture book from Lucy Cousins' very popular series of books about Maisy, a little white mouse with a pink nose, tail and paws.
Lucy Cousins is a great author and illustrator and seems to have a real knack for knowing what appeals to young children.
All of her Maisy books are aimed at pre-school children and contain elements that are familiar to little ones as well as being great educational tools!
* Maisy goes swimming
* Maisy takes a bath
* Maisy at the farm
* Where is Maisy going?
* Maisy goes to bed
To name but a few!
~ Maisy's Colour Collection ~
This book doesn't really have a storyline. It's aim is to help children learn about colours and the names of objects.
On the first page we meet Maisy who is driving the RED tractor. There are...

Is It Christmas Already?!
Advantages: Very popular character
Disadvantages: No Lift-the-flap opportunities
...- Who is Maisy?-
For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of meeting Maisy, she's a loveable and oh so cute little white mouse, with a pink tail, nose, ears and paws.
Maisy isn't a regular sort of mouse as she wears clothes, sleeps in a bed, brushes her teeth, goes to the library and much, much more.
In short, Maisy does everything that young children can relate to and this is her appeal!
Maisy has four main friends who regularly feature in Lucy Cousins books: Charley, Cyril, Tallulah and Eddie. All animals of varying sorts!
- Maisy's Christmas Eve -
The story is unsurprisingly set on Christmas Eve where thick snow has fallen on Maisy's house as well as those of her four friends.
All of them were invited to Maisy's house so off they travelled in varying ways, some with snowshoes others on a sledge.
It was...

Jazz It Up!
Advantages: A great hide and seek, lift the flaps adventure for young children.
Disadvantages: None but watch that little inquisitive fingers don't rip the flaps in their excitement!
...Lucy Cousins is perhaps most well-known for her Maisy series of books, some of which I have written reviews about.
She has however written and illustrated some other great children's picture books and this one is no exception, it's superb!!
Her books engage babies, toddler and pre-schoolers with their bold illustrations and colours.
She has produced picture books, sticker books, cloth books, board books, pull-the-tab and lift-the-flap books and three-dimensional books.
~ Jazzy in the Jungle ~
This book has a very simple story line. Mama JoJo and Baby Jazzy are playing hide and seek in the jungle and the Mum asks: " Where are you Jazzy?"
As each flap is lifted a variety of unusual animals reply "Not here" and a few suggest alternative places to look.
Here are some of the animals in the book:
Anteater, Snake, Hummingbird...

Rainbowland!!
Advantages: Great for learning colour names. Large, bright illustrations.
Disadvantages: No lift-the-flap opportunities.
...~ Who is Maisy? ~
Anyone who has read my other reviews on the Maisy books, will know that Maisy is a lovable, cute little white mouse, with a pink tail, nose, ears and paws.
Maisy isn't a regular sort of mouse.......she wears clothes, sleeps in a bed and brushes her teeth amongst other things. She does everything that young children do, except she's a mouse!!
That's her appeal to young children as they can relate to most things that Maisy does in the large number of books that Lucy Cousins has written about her.
~ Maisy's Rainbow Dream ~
It begins with Maisy going to sleep when 'suddenly a dream begins inside her head.'
In her dream, her friends go with her and she dreams about the following:
* a red ladybird
* an orange fish
* a yellow bee
* a green leaf
* a blue clock
* a indigo spots (on what I think is a dog...

I Often Ask Myself Where I Am Going??
Advantages: Bright and colourful with lift the flap interaction. Great for early readers too.
Disadvantages: If anything, it's too short!
...~ Who is Maisy?~
She's a white mouse with a pink nose, ears, tail and paws and she really appeals to young children.
Unlike real-life mice, Maisy wears clothes so it's worth pointing out that 'real' mice don't actually wear clothes!!
Lucy Cousins (the author) is great at writing Maisy books that are relevant to young children like getting dressed, learning about colours etc.
~ The series of Maisy books ~
Where is Maisy going? is a children's picture book from the series of Maisy books by Lucy Cousins, a few of which I have listed below:
* Maisy goes swimming
* Maisy takes a bath
* Maisy at the farm
* Maisy' colours
* Maisy dresses up
* Maisy goes to bed
All of these books are aimed at pre-school children as they contain elements that are familiar to very young children and are a fabulous educational tool...

Grab A Book Today
Advantages: Might encourage children to use their local library
Disadvantages: none
...***Background***
Lucy Cousins has written lots of different books about Maisy the Mouse. It is also on television sometimes and children seem to love it. As well as this set of books, she has written many others including the Animals series.
***The Story***
Maisy is looking for a book about fish but has trouble finding one. All her friends arrive and she realises that she might find one at the aquarium. She does this and is dying to read the sparkly fishy book but her friends are making lots of noise in her quiet corner and she can't concentrate.
After ostrich tells them all a story about an old woman who swallowed a fly, the friends all decide to check out their books and go out to play in the park.
Cyril the Squirrel and Charley the Crocodile pretend to be the old woman and her dog, whilst Tallulah the Duck meows like...
