...Lumines is a downloadable Tetris style arcade game available on Xbox 360 Live Arcade. The Game ------------- The point of the game is to place blocks that consist of 4 colour squares into blocks according to colour, once a block is made all of the same colour, it disappears. For exapmle, a block may have 3 white squares and 1 orange square. To make room, you would have to arrange them on other falling blocks to have 4 or more orange or 4 or more white. LUMINES: 21st Century Tetris

Advantages: Addictive game play, cool graphics and tunes
Disadvantages: Not many game modes, Single Skin mode can be a bit sameish

...Lumines is probably one of the titles that made the PSP. Since then there has been ports to the Xbox Live network, the mobile phone and recently the PC making it a well known puzzle game. It is very addictive and I can safely say it is the new Tetris. Game play is simple and the interface modern, as I noticed when I first accessed the main menu. There isn't many options when it comes to game play but that is part of its appeal as it means that the developers have made the main mode, the Challenge mode, as fulfilling as possible. Lilly Is Not So Luminous, but Her Friends Shine Brightly.

Advantages: Fascinating characters, brilliantly descriptive, leaves you thinking for hours after
Disadvantages: Background setting at the beginning is too long , I almost gave up and missed a fantastic book

Working my way through the 2009 list, I have just finished The Luminous Life of Lilly Aphrodite by Beatrice Colin. The book tells the story of Lilly Nelly Aphrodite, illegitimate child to a cabaret dancer, born in Berlin at the turn of the twentieth century. Lumines - A rather daft name for a great game.

Advantages: Addictive "Tetris Style" Game for those who prefer "retro-type" gaming
Disadvantages: If you prefer more modern 3D gaming this may not be your thing

...If you are not familiar with Tetris: The guiding and rotating of various shaped blocks, consisting of various colours, down a screen until you make lines of the same colour which are then deleted from the screen scoring points. The process then continues with speed increasing as you progress and the number of colours increasing also. It's addictive gaming even for many people who do not normally play puzzle games. Block and Tackle

Advantages: Addictive, simple to play, based on old classic
Disadvantages: music might get annoying, puzzle mode doesn't fit with rest of game

...I first got Lumines with my PSP about two years ago now as part of a bundled package. Although I wanted a PSP a lot of the games were quite male oriented, involving shooting, cars or fantasy type games none of which I enjoy, preferring puzzles and platform games. Lumines achieved huge sales partly because it was bundled up in many stores, and partly as it is quite similar to Tetris and there are plenty of copies available second hand, or the game is still available on Amazon.co.uk for £15. The game was originally created for the PSP market only, but it is now available on some mobile phones, its simplicity and its addictive nature more suited to a mobile or hand held PC rather than desktop. If you have ever played or observed anyone playing Tetris (and who hasn't) then you will be able to master the basics of the game...

NEW Schwarzkopf LIVE Red Luminance

Advantages: Great colours.
