De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton
Advantages: Fantastic rooms, friendly staff, great location
Disadvantages: some of the other guests seem to think their a bit special!
...I've stayed at this hotel twice now, once when i was 10 with my mum and dad and once when i was 20 with my boyfriend, both times i've had a fantastic time and the only negative thing being other guests there, but we'll get to that later in the review!
Accomodation:
The hotel has 173 rooms, this is made up of 93 standard rooms which are the cheapest and have either twin or a kingsize bed, an ensuite bathroom usually with a bath and a shower. A kettle and small sachets of tea coffe, milk etc and some very delicious biscuits! A mini bar (as with most hotels this is a little on the pricey side e.g £1.20 for a mars bar!!!!) a safe, an ironing board and hairdryer, a phone, internet access and Sky TV and the usual pre pay movies as well as pre pay games for the playstion. These rooms are mostly at the back of the hotel and look out over...

Fantastic Luxury Hotel in Dubai
Advantages: Everything - a real experience hotel
Disadvantages: Cost - A little too far from Town for easy shopping/eating out
...that can play in any room, Internet Access via wireless laptop or Plasma TV screen in the lounge or the standard TV in the bedroom, Do not Disturb Systems, Video doorbell, fax machine and Jacuzzi bath) our luggage arrived and was unpacked by our butler.
We had a "Club Suite"; the hotel offers deluxe suites, panoramic suites, club suites, 2-3 bed suites, presidential and royal suites. The deluxe suite has all the technology that I have already mentioned and like all other suites it is in a duplex arrangement, the lounge, office and sitting areas downstairs with the luxury bathroom, bedroom and dressing room upstairs. The Panoramic suites are corner suites with floor to ceiling windows, the arrangement of the panoramic suite is beautiful, the view is superb, the lounge area is open across both floors with the fantastic spiral stairs...

Royal connections but not that luxurious -Durham Marriott hotel
Advantages: Comfortable, convenient for city sight seeing
Disadvantages: luke warm bath water and average food in restaurant
...£15 for 24 hours which I consider a rip off as it would cost the hotel nothing to allow wifi to be included in the rooms with a pass code. This is a personal bugbear of mine as it is often free in much poorer countries and I only seem to be charged with hotels in places like UK or Australia, some places charged in the States whilst it was free in many hotels.
The bathroom was wonderful, large and decorated in white (floor tiles, bath etc), grey (wall tiles) and black marble (sink surrounds). We had two sinks, a separate shower and a bath with shower over. The toilet had a disabled access rail beside it and there were handles on either side of the bath. An interesting red string hung inside the bathroom which my husband decided might be the water heater ( as the water coming out of the taps was not really very hot); it wasn?t we discovered...

The archetypal Oxford hotel of unbridled luxury
Advantages: Beautiful ambiance, sybaritic surroundings, unrivalled dining experience (especially Afternoon Tea), polite and helpful staff
Disadvantages: Expensive!
...ladies gently sipping tea and taking diaphanous bites of homemade cakes, with their ankles delicately folded under their chairs, whilst in reality we were a gaggle of hungry and somewhat rambunctious Wadham girls uncomfortably squeezed into decorous dresses. The style of the Drawing Room was in keeping with the overall ambiance of the hotel of unbridled luxury and old-school charm.
Finally, sleeping and dining quarters aside, The Randolph also serves as a venue for academic and professional functions. In the midst of Milkround madness, I attended many recruitment presentation evenings in one grandiose room or another in the hotel, for various corporate machines. Though the speeches were often vapid, and the companies dull, The Randolph never ceased to surprise and enchant me.
In fear of this review coming across way too biased, it may be...

Pulitzer - A Hotel to Prize
Advantages: Quaint luxury in converted canalside houses. Convenient for all Amsterdam
Disadvantages: None worth mentioning.
...The Hotel Pulitzer, Amsterdam is part of the Luxury Collection of the Starwood Hotels and Resorts. It has been formed by the amalgamation and renovation of twenty four of the original canal houses. The modernisations have been quite extensive but have been in keeping with the listed nature of the buildings. It has created unusual sprawling hotel in the heart of the old city while retaining the feel of historic canal houses. There are many changes of level (steps up and down) on each floor and there are tight and steep staircases between floors ? so much so that the hotel does advise that it cannot be considered disabled or wheelchair friendly.
The main entrance is on one of the three semi-circular canals ? the Prinsengracht ? which were excavated in the mid 1600s. Directly opposite is moored the hotel?s barge which is available...

Ideal hotel for families visiting Southampton
Advantages: Family friendly, comfortable, good location
Disadvantages: Rooms too small for long term stays
...This hotel is easy to find, situated off the M271. Despite its location close to the motorway, it is a quiet place to stay. From this location you are 10 minutes away from the city centre and under 5 minutes to the M27 which provides access to the New Forest to the west and the M3 and Portsmouth to the east. Parking is plentiful and well lit. Booking-in was simple which is appreciated when you have tired and impatient children to contend with! Rooms are clean, modern and well equiped. Buffet breakfast is well stocked and tasty - although cooked breakfasts are not available, there is something for everyone. Reception staff were very helpful and provided good local knowledge. We often travel to Southampton to visit friends and family and rate this hotel as one of the better ones of its price range....

Hotel Ibis Southampton
Advantages: Comfy Bed, Easy to park
Disadvantages: Not that easy to find, expensive for 2 star
...We arrived after a long 5 hour journey in the heatwave of last year. It took a while to locate the hotel as it is on a retail park and its not somewhere you would expect to find a hotel!
We stayed at this hotel having booked months in advance as we were watching a concert in Southampton. At the time of booking over the phone we were told that the room would be 65 pound for the night. So we booked the hotel and thought nothing of it.
On arriveal we found that the room price was £79 a night as it was an event night. When checking in they continued to charge us £79 until we mentioned we had booked it for £65. After discussing it with the snappy manager the price was reduced. It was a busy day for them and I dont think they could be bothered arguing about the price. But good enough they went on our word of £65 and did not require...

The UK's '4th coolest boutique hotel'
Advantages: Cental location, friendly service, individualistic
Disadvantages: A little cramped, grubby carpets, a little inflexible on breakfast times
...I travel a lot with work and it's a trifle sad but I have become blasé regarding the same luxury hotel chains-Renaissance, Holiday Inn, Hilton etc
It was nice to stay at a boutique hotel for once-and one right slap bang in the middle of Newcastle city centre. Prestige Events Magazine voted it the 4th coolest boutique hotel in the UK last year. The Lowry in Manchester (I love it) was number 10. It's a cute little hotel with a mere 49 bedrooms. I'm not sure why we stay here rather than one of the hotel chains but I am not complaining! Apparently it used to be a bank. It's also Newcastle's first pet friendly hotel. I travelled with my dear deceased little dog in the past and we both enjoyed dog friendly hotels.
First impressions:
You could almost miss the hotel, as it's very discreet. And small! As soon as you walk through the door...

Southampton Hilton
Advantages: Helpful and considerate reception staff
Disadvantages: Off-hand restaurant staff.
...On the whole we enjoyed our short stay at this hotel and the reception staff were extreemly helpful and pleasant. We are Gold VIP Hilton Honours members and we enjoy the little extras that our loyalty usually brings. We are entitled to an upgrade to an executive room and can use the facilities of an Executive Lounge if the hotel has one. Southampton does not have an executive floor but the receptionist made sure we were given several extras to compensate. She sent a bottle of wine and a small box of handmade chocolates to our room along with bathrobes and bottles of water. We were impressed! The room was quite a good size and it was clean and nicely decorated, if a little dark. We didn\'t eat dinner in the hotel so I can only comment on the breakfast. There was a wide range of hot and cold choices but the scrambled egg had run...
