Versatile Lycos

...I always considered Lycos first and foremost as a Search Engine and have been using it, aswell as Yahoo, for this purpose frequently. Just today I decided to explore the Lycos site thoroughly and I must say I was very impressed. The range and variety of features offered is really quite amazing and very interesting and useful. I will try and list some of the sections that I covered today for the benefit of those of you who do not already know. Lycos

Advantages: Free SMS and fast searching
Disadvantages: Not as many sites as the other bigger search engines

...I have been using lycos.co.uk recently because I found that the other big sites were not getting me relevant pages. Lycos is fast, reliable and gives relevant pages from most searches. The free SMS service was a great addition to the site, which has made it a lot more popular, especially with the younger generation. Lycos is catching up with the likes of AltaVista and Yahoo but I do not feel it is at their level yet. If they keep improving the site, it will be without doubt the best search engine on the net!...

LYCOS ARE TERRIBLE

Advantages: Not a single one
Disadvantages: Over priced, unhelpful, rude at times, ancient control panel, continuous downtime, the list goes on

...LYCOS what can I say about them: - Overpriced - Unhelpful - Rubbish - Terrible support - Lack of customer focus - Pathetic "one click" packages that are open to hacking - A very bad hosting company - Webftp that rarely works - Ancient control panel Right that is for starters, now to explain, you pay for a domain (standard rate) then a hosting package for that one domain, so for one .com on an annual basis could cost in excess of £100. You cannot even add multiple domains to a package, that would be too easy. You have to log any support issues through their ancient control panel interface which fails constantly. If you are lucky you will receive an automated response (although I placed 12 support requests about domain transfers and received 2 responses, I then had to send a further 5 emails to get things started...

...Lycos.co.uk has a dishonest customer service - Trevor Day The following was happened on 20 to 23 December 2007. I was a customer of lycos.cop.uk and decide to leave them forever after this bad experience. I have a domain signup with them and was not allowed to point my domain to other server although they did provide the function. Trevor Day told me the cheap service that I have got from other providers were not capable, not lycos.co.uk faults. I found that actually their function was a dummy, as you can also enter their own servers address and it will still return errors. Trevor Day then explained the following rubbish: Because our domain detected that was the original server of us so the errors were reasonable! Lycos Tripod domain transfere registration is A Joke

...Well If anyone is thinking about signing up with Lycos Tripod to use their web domain and site builder service. Stay clear! You will find they don't have a live chat and all you will get is help topics in troubleshooter that are only meant to keep you on board. They offer 3 email accounts well just try to sort that one out. I have tried for over two days to transfer my domain with out joy to my other ISP and we are losing valuable time trying to sort out our business. People just be aware that if you are going to look for a simple site-builder or if you are advanced HTML coders go somewhere else because you will have possibly the worst customer service know to the web with Lycos. Off to fight the battle to retrieve my Domain! ICAAN here I come!...

Lycos is great

Advantages: Easy to use
Disadvantages: For beginners

...Lycos was my first port of call on the net. I was quite a newbie back then and didn?t know a bit form a byte. Lycos took me by the hand and guided me through the murky waters of cyber space. It has a good tutorial for beginners, a clean crisp layout and a wide range of options. Private chat is pretty standard everywhere but I feel Lycos has the best one. It does not come up in one of those annoying little pop up boxes. It is shown on the main screen but in a bright red to distinguish it from all the other messages. Lycos is also the only site I have come across that has an effective ?Create your own room? system. I have seen other sites with this facility but no one ever seems to use it. All in all Lycos is a great site and I recommend it heartily to anyone....

Disadvantages: It needs to be a lot, lot quicker in delivering the messages

Advantages: FREE, instant arrival of text messages, always works.
Disadvantages: Difficult navigation and long site to actaully reach the messaging service. May not always be free/around.

Lycos is essential

Advantages: efficient search engine

...Lycos.com is an essential search engine for anyone who really wants to be efficient for sourcing for info on the web. Lycos, in my opinion returns much more accurate as well as many more sites as compared to say yahoo.com or altavista.com. Not only are the sites more relevant, there are also less dead links as compared to these other 2 sites. I also like lycos's style of presentation of the links, with relevant web categories appearing first to give you a more general overview AND the web sites aer just a mouse click away Lycos is great... go try it out... often enough you'll fine yourself getting sites on lycos that you couldnt get on yahoo...
