...Lyons Battenberg Cake This has been on special offer recently in Tesco's and since the offer has been on I have been able to eat single handed 4 whole cakes. The offer being buy one get one free and for a price of £1.29 pence, which gets you the two cakes, I think it is well worth it. The Lyons Battenberg cake has been around for years and has been one of my favourite cake time treats for many a year. The fact that this cake is so sweet really satisfies me as I have a very bad case of sweet toothitis. The Battenberg Cake is made up of a super soft sponge centre that is in two different colours and four separate squares of colour giving the cake a chequered look. Lyon- France's alternative city break.

My likely destination is Lyon and as such I decided it would be worth taking a trip to Lyon to explore what the city had to offer and get my bearings a little before I actually attended the university next year. Having a lie-in in the Lyon...

Advantages: A clean hotel in the heart of Barcelona.
Disadvantages: Web page not very trustworthy.

Chequered Cake

...and the Battenberg family name was changed to Mountbatten, thankfully the cake kept its original Battenberg name. So that?s the History lesson over for today, after all we are not here to learn. The Lyons Battenberg is packed in a cardboard sheaf and is wrapped in clear polythene to enable potential buyers to see the cake in all of its glory. The cardboard sheaf is taken up with enticing pictures of sliced Battenberg and the Lyons company crest explaining that they have been baking cakes since 1908. The bottom of the cardboard sheaf is given over to Ingredients and Nutritional information with the Ingredient list offering no real surprises as far as cakes go, needless to say that sugar is the top listed constituent with the marzipan making up 40% of the finished product. The calorific value is quite high with the whole 230g cake notching up a belly...

Coffee Conundrum

Advantages: Quick and covenient with a reasonably convincing fresh brewed taste
Disadvantages: Brown sludge on the bottom, enormous amoeba like bag

...Whilst I like coffee, I'd hardly consider myself a coffee aficionado. I love the smell of freshly brewed coffee, yet I am content to drink good quality instant. Still, freshly brewed coffee at home is a treat. I'd heard about Lyons one-cup coffee bags. It turns out you can get a free sample (in fact, two free samples - there are two bags in the free sample pack - click here to get your own: http://www.coffeeperfection.com/our-coffee.php). I'm a sucker for free samples, so I filled in the e-form, and many weeks later (and I mean lots - maybe six weeks), these dropped through my letterbox. Each bag was enclosed in a foil envelope (presumably for freshness).
