Munich - A Beautiful Bavarian
Review of Munich (Germany) by  snowbunni

Advantages: Beautiful City, Great Food, Wonderful Museums, Close to Alps
Disadvantages: Too Many Tourists In The Summer

...'In Munich Stands a Hofbräuhaus'…or so, roughly translated, runs one well-known staple of Munich's beerhall sing-alongs. For many who've never visited this charming city (and perhaps, even for a few who have…) this, along with the even better-known Oktoberfest, an event which, to all intents and purposes, is little more than the Hofbräuhaus writ large, condensed into a month & transferred on to a circus ground, is pretty much all that Munich amounts to. Well, it isn't. MY MUNICH: I lived in Munich for about four years, in the late-seventies and early eighties. My earliest memories of the Hofbräuhaus involve sitting outside it in a parked Mercedes with my two brothers, when I was about six. Our father would drop in to have a beer, or two, with his German work colleagues, leaving us to wait squabbling in the back seat for an hour or so... Read review

LIVING IN MUNICH
Review of Munich (Germany) by  Mataina

Advantages: clean | many clubs/bars/restaurants/shops | can earn much money
Disadvantages: expensive | sometimes too many people

...Hallo all of you! Today I want to tell you something about Munich, the biggest town in bavaria (germany). As you can tell from my horrible english, I'm a german girl. Since 3 years I go to munich at the weekends because my boyfriend lives here. Now, I'm actually living in this big town since one year and I want to tell you some facts about this town: + WORKING IN MUNICH + To get a job in munich is not very easy! A lot of people have no job and are hanging around in parks every day. In munich we have especially BMW and SIEMENS, to very big employers. When I'm talking to friends who don't live in Munich and I tell them what I (or friends) earn, they always look like "What? Now you're rich!". But that's not right because living in Munich is very, very expensive... + LIVING IN MUNICH + Very expensive, like I said... Read review

The Munich Viktualienmarkt is a great
Review of Viktualienmarkt, Munich by  Cosmopolitin

Advantages: good purchase possibilities, very large selection of fresh fruit and vegetable
Disadvantages: on sunny days, particularly in the summer, very full

...I love my Munich much and decided to begin a report row over Munich in which I describe the individual high points of this beautiful city. That would blow up the framework in only one report absolutely. And in such a way it concerns today the resident of Munich Viktualienmarkt: On 2 May 1807 King Max I. that Marienplatz had become too small as market for grain and other agricultural products. He instructed therefore that a part of the market between "Heiliggeistkirche" and "Frauenstraße" was to be shifted. The "Benefizhäuser of Heiliggeist", standing there, which had acquired the city, was torn off, so that a large place could develop. Thus the vegetable market got its own place, which was called first only market place. Only the word "Viktualien" was very many later used. Viktualien (victualia) - by the way like F spoken - is latin... Read review

Munich Walk Tour
Review of Munich (Germany) by  MALU

Advantages: one of the must-see cities in Germany
Disadvantages: none really

...Last summer I was in Munich to see an art exhibition. I didn´t have any plans for the afternoon and when I saw a leaflet ´Munich Walk Tours in English´, (from May 17th to August 31st daily 10:45 am and 3:00 pm, from Sept. 1st to Oct. 31st daily 10:45, meeting point in front of the town hall entrance under the Glockenspiel on Marienplatz, 9 Euro, under 26 years 8 Euro, children under 14 with an adult free), I thought, why not? Why not find out what foreigners tell foreigners about Munich? Still on the Marienplatz the guide, a young woman from Australia started with a survey over the history of Munich from the year it was officially founded up to today and covered 800 years in about 10 minutes. Our tour wasn´t specified as a historical tour, it was just a general introduction, but we heard more about the reign of the Royal Family... Read review

Everton 3 Bayern Munich 1 - 1985 - DVD Review
Review of Everton - Everton vs Bayern Munich DVD by  newty1977

Advantages: Re live a glorious European semi-final from the 80's
Disadvantages: It makes you sad we aren't this good anymore!

...EUROPEAN CUP WINNERS' CUP SEMI-FINAL - 2ND LEG Wednesday 24th April 1985 Goodison Park, Liverpool, England. Everton (0) 3 v's Bayern Munich (1) 1 COST = I bought it for around £4.99 + postage from Amazon. Shop around, there are a number of different websites that will offer a good deal on football DVD's. The Everton club shop, accessible via the website www.evertonfc.co.uk will also sell the DVD, but they have released a better one, which also includes the Final. EVERTON, still one of English football's most decorated Football Clubs, formed in 1878 In Liverpool, have a rich history and tradition in the game. The club have had many ups and downs, as have I watching them, but somehow sit as the 4th most successful English club with 9 league titles + 1 old division 2 title, 5 F.A. Cup successes, 9 Charity Shield successes... Read review

Munich - What Happened Next.....
Review of Munich DVD by  StereoMike1983

Advantages: Thought Provoking
Disadvantages: Very long

...Early in the morning of the 5th September 1972, Palestinian terrorists broke into the athlete's village at the Munich Olympics. The terrorist group known as Black September stormed the Israeli apartments, took 9 hostages, and shot two men dead. Whilst the games went on around them, the terrorists demanded the release of hundreds of prisoners from Israeli jails as well as the release of two Germans being held in Germany. Israel refused to bend to the demands and later that night the remaining hostages were all killed in a bungled rescue bid held at Munich airport. This event happened many years before I was born, but the shock of it has meant that it has never been forgotten. I first became aware of the events of that night whilst watching the brilliant documentary, 'One Day in September' that I saw on a flight to South Africa. Other... Read review

A good place to spend a weekend in Munich
Review of DERAG Hotel AND LIVING Hotel Prinzessin Elisabeth, Munich by  ciao_nicolet

Advantages: nice and tidy rooms, good service, yummy breakfast
Disadvantages: not that easy to reach without a car

...as it is located in a back street. Therefore you also do not have a great view out of the window... Derag Hotel Prinzessin Elisabeth Geyerstr. 52, 80469 München Phone +49 (0)89-7 20 17-0 Fax +49 (0)89-7 20 17-160 Best way to reach the hotel is to take the metro bus 58 from Munich central station to Baldeplatz. From there it is a 4 min walk to the hotel. Nearest subway stations are Frauenhoferstr. and Kolumbusplatz. --------------------------- service: very friendly and helpful personnel. At reception they gave us information about attractions and the bus and subway timetables. breakfast: The breakfast was great. They had a big breakfast buffet, with food ranging from muesli and yoghurt to different kinds of cheeses and meats. Munich Airport MUC
Review of Munich (MUC) by  Dalesman

Advantages: Excellent gateway to the Bavaria
Disadvantages: Huge, impersonal Airport, which is still under construction

...I arrived on the Dutch National carrier KLM and was quite impressed with our arrival off 24L via the inner taxiway and directly onto the airbridge..quite impressive, from touchdown to unloading was about 4 mins..... The Airport was quite large, and is in the centre of a Parallell Runway system, very long terminal buildings lead to a maze of corridoors and escalators, however, my arrival was well handled and within 12 mins of landing we were through passport control with baggage and being greeted by our friends from Bavaria <br> on our return we got the Train to Munich Marionplatz and watched the Glochenspeil, had lunch at the Lowenbrauhaus and caught the S Bahn to the Airport... KLM Check in was a bit hampered, on presentation of my KLM frequent flyer card the system went haywire and closed down, this took some 15 mins... Read review

Business Trip Accommodation in Munich
Review of Munich (Germany) by  mandynoble

Advantages: All listed in op.
Disadvantages: Gets booked up early during Oktoberfest & trade-fairs

...After many, many visits I recommend the Holiday Inn, Munich South, as the ideal stopover for the business traveller The rooms are comfortable and practical (TV, telephone, bath, shower, minbar, tea/coffee making facilities) but you get that extra bit of something there that's worth the return visits: 1. The cleanliness is second to none, you feel like you are the first person to have every been inside your room. 2. The baths.... oh my, I have never encountered such a deep bath in my life. Just what you need after a hard day. 3. The Staff - they all speak English, are polite and genuinely seem to enjoy and have pride in what they do. Nothing is too much trouble. 4. Room-service. Snacks, meals and drinks served up until 11:30pm. Delicious. You don't have to stick to the menu either, they will try and cook up anything... Read review

Deutsches Museum München
Review of Deutsche Museum, Munich by  BACK_IN_BLACK_DEVIL

Advantages: ...
Disadvantages: ...

...So, now, nevertheless, I must also write sometimes a report from my new adoptive country, the German museum in Munich. Although I with museums, actually, so much in the hat do not have it draws me here once again. This may be probably due to the fact that it is so big to explore impossibly everything during one or two days and I do not have all exhibition by, but one after the other now even after several visits yet. To the museum one reaches best of all with the city railroad who arrives by the car can in Munich It is Pasing rather for a good price parking, on the week-end believe I even free of charge. In Pasing you can do yourselves in any city railroad purely placed, you must pay attention only to the direction. Free ones park and ride parking lots there is in Lochhausen (S8) or west cross (S5,6). Then in the city railroad you... Read review
