...158 to be very good, perfectly good for its use as a practice amp. The quality speaker, excellent construction and brilliant electronics all contribute to this. One minor problem I have with the amp is that the gain channel can sometimes be a little bit glitch if the input is too high from the guitar but I have never heard of this occurring on other Rage amps so I’m sure this is just a problem with my amp. Despite this, it’s a problem which can easily be solved by setting master volume a fraction lower on the guitar. Durability Peavey amps and guitars are renowned for being extremely durable and the Rage 158 conforms to this belief entirely. After owning this for a long time nothing has gone wrong with the amp whatsoever apart from a dodgy headphone jack which I actually blame on a broken adaptor I was using beforehand... Read review

...aesthetics are implemented which includes chrome hardware and sturdy black metal speaker protection on the front of the amp. My favourite feature of this guitar amp is the metal grill in front of the speaker which has proven to be very useful because I’m almost certain that if a material cover was used with the amp that I would have stepped back on one occasion and damaged the speaker with my heel. The construction of this amplifier is excellent although this does make an impact on the weight of the amp making it a more difficult to transport by foot. The carry strap feels extremely solid and durable, complementing the plastic protection for the corners of the amplifier which would prevent any serious damage to the amp. ..., this amp is very good, it is very heavy, so if you want a portable amp this is not for you! It is quite durable, but it is made from cheap wood in china so it wouldn't survive much, it doesn't have any valves though, so it's not too delicate. Overall a very good amp that i'm sure will last me many years, i have never had to put it past halfway on the volume mark but i can still drown out the drums with ease! (i play this amp with an Ibanez s2075 and Ibanez GRX140)... Read review

...Solid! That's what it is, no question. I bought the cab new in 2000 and use it with a Marshall 3520 integrated bass amp 200w MOSFET. Initially, I had problems. At mid-volumes the bottom end would fart and lose power. After seeking advice, I was told that the amp couldn't cope with the "low" impedance cab. The amp is rated at 200w at 4 ohms; I measured the cab and found it was 3.4 ohms, slightly less than the 4 ohms stated on the rear plate. I then rewired the cab - two 10" speakers in series, then paralelled with the 15". The resulting resistance measurement showed 6.7 ohms. I plugged it back in to the amp and what an amazing sound came out! I'm happy as Larry with it, powerful, ounchy, just magic. I was playing Ernie Ball Stingray (4 string) through it. .... Channel three is overdrive two. Has a little more gain than overdrive one but gets a little too noisy and harsh in my opinion. The gain rarely goes much further past 3 while I'm using it. It is meant to emulate the tone of that of a hot rodded JCM800 but I can't comment on that from my experience. The clean channel comes with it's own tone control (Bass, Middle and Treble), while the two overdrive channels share tone controls. The amp also comes with a variety of effects. Mostly a variety of reverbs that are very nice and useable. Other effects include chorus, flange and delay. They are not perfect compared to a standalone stomp box as they lack the adjustable paramaters of that of a stomp box but they are most definately useable. ...effective with the amp measuring the distance from each speaker very accurately, and checking for sonic nasties like standing waves, phase problems etc. One bonus in the spec of this amp is that it is THX rated and I am certainly pleased with the dynamics this produces when watching a good film. The amp has plenty of 'va va voom' although obviously this depends on your speaker/sub setup. The power rating is actually 150DIN watts per channel although I am not sure how this compares to RMS figures. It easily has the same power as my Yam, and probably a fair bit more I suspect but I have never found the need to push it near its limits. I have mine hooked up to Mission 753 fronts, M7C1 centre, M70DS rears, and a Paradigm PS1000 sub, and it has more than enough welly for anything I need! ...very good amp and will do a great deal to add something to a system but if you like your music with in your face nothing but boomy bass and more bass then this is not for you,( i'm not saying it can't handle bass just listen to FAT OF THE LAND by The Prodigy and you'll know what i mean) this amp adds nor takes anything away from a recording it plays the way it was intended to be just like it was recorded. I haven't played a single album that i thought sounded anything but superb, weather it be Rage Against The Machine or Frank Sinatra they all just seem effortless and easy to listen to. Controls for the amp are minimal as with all audiophile systems you get what you need and nothing more, you have input selection buttons, on/off switch, mute, phones, and volume control. there are no tonal controls or flashing lights or fancy buttons... .... What the hell is wrong with me? EFFECTS (FX) This is probably the most amazing feature of the Spider112. It actually emulates other amp models. A tweak here and a turn there and before you know it you have a Marshall coming out of a 50 watt 12inch speaker. It does have its own default amp settings. Such as 'clean', 'twang', 'blues', 'retro', 'crunch' and 'insane'. All of which can be tweaked using the controls and the EQ to get the desired sound you want. Once done the custom sound can be saved into the amps memory bank (only a maximum of 4 I'm afraid). Other amp effects include 'chorus', 'delay', 'flange', 'tremolo', 'ping pong', tape echo' and 'reverb'. Again, this all adds to the complexity of the amp, giving its user a vast range of sounds, effects, amp models and even guitarist custom sounds. HOWEVER... Read review
