M-Audio Fast Track Pro - Great for working with audio on a budget

Advantages: cheap, reliable, portable, easy to use and intuitive
Disadvantages: limited ins and outs, not a lot of leeway for input levels

...The M-Audio Fast Track Pro is all round a fairly good piece of kit. I originally bought mine as my very first audio/usb interface to use with my Macbook and Logic Pro when I first started university, 2 years ago. I am now in my final year, and have progressed up to using Pro Tools (M-powered, as this is the only version supported by the Fast Track Pro.) I have to date used the fast track pro to create semi-professional projects. The sound quality is, I have to say, very good for a £120 interface, although I have had problems attempting to get a decent input signal strength, especially when using the built in phantom power. However, the integrated phantom power is effective, even when the unit is powered solely by USB, although the option for mains power is available, though the adapter is not included in the box. Advantages: smaller size, usb connection support, 3D sound experience, very cheap, high SNR ratio.
Disadvantages: Does not support all OS, requires very powerful processor& ram,all features not works on XP

M-Audio Oxygen 61[Midi Keyboard]

Advantages: Great Midi Keyboard/Controller.
Disadvantages: none

I previously i owned the smaller version of this the Oxygen8 v2, which i loved, howeveras i was progressing as a musician, it was limiting me on the mellodies i was composing as there wernt enough keys. So i upgraded to the Oxygen 61 which is what im currently using. Im extremely happly with it so far, and feel that it meets all of my requirements not just as a Midi Keyboard but also as a Controller Interface for software like 'Reason'. The Modulation and Pitch Bend Sliders are very useful while recording to generate different effects. Creative Sound Blaster MP3+ external sound card

Advantages: Good software bundle, cheap, works well.
Disadvantages: Only stereo out on analogue

...Before I got my iPod and sounddock, I was one of those who refuses to subscribe to the technological revolution. Prefering hi-fi and compact disc to the digital music phenomenon. However, within a week (once I'd worked out how to use it), I was hooked on my iPod and once I got the sound-dock, there was no turning back. I think it's fairly safe to say that the era of compact disc players and tape decks is over... The only reason I still have a normal cd player in my house is to listen to the radio, and those few albums that I just haven't got around to putting on my iPod yet. UPGRADE to Superior Stereo Audio Quality

It helps that is comes with Creative Media Source digital as there are lost of settings on this to fine tune the sound to how you like, I?m in to rock so the bass boost gets used a lot. There is a 10 Band Equalizer which I would love to pretend I know all about basically I just fiddle with the sliders until it sounds good. If you have MP3?s or songs converted from tapes or records or the radio then the Audio Clean-Up will remove at least some of the background noise you tend to get, I found this ok but not perfect as suggested. It has Smart Volume Management, which is great, as it equals out the volume on all your tracks if like me you have all sorts of MP3?s some louder some quieter it saves a mad scramble for the volume when something booms unexpectedly...
