M-Audio Oxygen 61[Midi Keyboard]
Advantages: Great Midi Keyboard/Controller.
Disadvantages: none
...As im a music Producer, I use a number of Midi Keyboards when i go to studios. M-audio keyboards are levels abouve the rest within the industry. I previously i owned the smaller version of this the Oxygen8 v2, which i loved, howeveras i was progressing as a musician, it was limiting me on the mellodies i was composing as there wernt enough keys. So i upgraded to the Oxygen 61 which is what im currently using. Im extremely happly with it so far, and feel that it meets all of my requirements not just as a Midi Keyboard but also as a Controller Interface for software like 'Reason'. The Modulation and Pitch Bend Sliders are very useful while recording to generate different effects.
This keyboard includes everything you need as a producer to start making music of a high standard, Pitch & Modulation wheels, programmable buttons/panners/ 9...

M-Audio Fast Track Pro - Great for working with audio on a budget
Advantages: cheap, reliable, portable, easy to use and intuitive
Disadvantages: limited ins and outs, not a lot of leeway for input levels
...The M-Audio Fast Track Pro is all round a fairly good piece of kit.
I originally bought mine as my very first audio/usb interface to use with my Macbook and Logic Pro when I first started university, 2 years ago. I am now in my final year, and have progressed up to using Pro Tools (M-powered, as this is the only version supported by the Fast Track Pro.) I have to date used the fast track pro to create semi-professional projects.
The sound quality is, I have to say, very good for a £120 interface, although I have had problems attempting to get a decent input signal strength, especially when using the built in phantom power.
However, the integrated phantom power is effective, even when the unit is powered solely by USB, although the option for mains power is available, though the adapter is not included in the box. I got a universal...

Canal du Midi
Advantages: architectural wonder
Disadvantages: cost many human lives to build
...The Canal du Midi, is a man dug canal, situated in the south of France, and joins the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean sea, via the Canal Garonne. The water sources which allow the canal to be constantly navigable, come from the Montagne Noire, (situated in the south west of the Massif Central, near Mazamet, in the Tarn area), by three lakes, and the Saint Ferréol dam. This technical challenge, first imagined in 1539, stayed a project on paper for almost a century, until 1636.
¤ø,¸¸,◊,¸¸ ,ø
It was Paul Riquet, an ingenious engineer, born in Béziers in 1604, who started the first portion of the Canal in 1636, under the reign of Louis XIV. The Saint Ferréol dam was built in 1667, and in 1680, the locks at Béziers, called "Les écluses de Fonseranne" were built. Pierre Paul Riquet died that year, and the very first navigation...

Brilliant midi keyboard, Brilliant price
Advantages: sturdy, cheap
Disadvantages: not enough keys
...When I first start getting interested in music production on a computer i bought the Oxygen 8 and was extremely pleased with it. I do not have much experience with piano theory so for those more into playing chords and more in depth structures, may find this keyboard limiting. But for those who are interested in the modern craze that is digital music production and its infinite amount of synthesizers, drum machines and effects, then this is defenitely a very nice way of accessing all those sounds. The Oxygen 8 is good because its cheap, its sturdy, it will last and it might the only midi keyboard you will ever need. In order to get sounds out of it you will need a computer with a music production program such as Reason or cubase. The Oxygen 8 is a USB keyboard and should start working as soon as you plug it in. It has 8 knobs which can...

Piano Action, full featured controller at minimal price! Perfect
Advantages: Hammer action, vast amount of controls and adjustability
Disadvantages: None to date.
...Not got room for a piano but want that feel? Maybe you just want the freedom for MIDI work and need those extra knobs, buttons and faders? M-Audio have pulled all of this out the bag with the Keystation Pro 88.
This MIDI controller has 88 full size and hammer weighted action keys. For anyone whos not aware, hammer weighted keys are the equivalent of how a piano feel, compared to many semi weighted keyboards. In my own time as much as I love to write new music via MIDI and vst instruments on the computer, Im also a big fan of the piano and wanted something which I felt would actually represent the real deal. Ofcourse, with pianos being thousands of pounds and very big in size, I knew they wouldnt be what I wanted, so I searched for this product.
Along with the great feeling hammer action keys, it comes with a big blue LCD screen, making...

Pro Studio in your back pocket!!
Advantages: supports high sample rates; ADAT i/o capabilities; too many
Disadvantages: no hardware monitoring
...I have recently bought this little interface, and I have to tell you... it is great.
Before I go any further, for those of you who are not 100% confident in some of the Audio Engineering terminology, I will be leaving notes explaining what certain terms mean throughout this review.
I work with Logic Studio 8 and Pro Tools M-Powered and this allows me to use both on my Macbook, wherever I go. I use it for editing purposes only at the moment, thus having an interface that supports 96Khz/24-bit (i.e. higher definition audio).
However, this little interface has two optical ports (ADAT), an in and an out, giving you a possible total of eight channels in and eight channels out (in 44.1KHz/16-bit, which is CD quality audio). This means that if you buy a channel strip of 8 preamps (such as the Focusrite Octopre LE or the Presonus Digimax...

The Wolf in Sheeps Clothing!
Advantages: Rock-Solid Performance - Ridiculously Cheap!
Disadvantages: None!
...This was the first soundcard I purchased, about 4 years ago at £60, it was and still is an absolute bargain!
While this is certainly an entry level professional soundcard, with 2in/2out, it's been designed carefully and with as much detail as higher-spec sound cards which I've purchased from M-Audio.
Installation is extremely simple as with nearly all PCI devices these days: chuck in the driver CD, or download and install the latest versions. Power Off. Slot in the card. Power On. Installed.
What I like, amongst many other things, is the reliability of the drivers. I've never once had a problem caused by the soundcard in any of the various host programs I use and it's a testament to great software engineering. I've used a MOTU 828 mkII for a few months on a recording project and every once in a while, audible clicks and pops...

Professional Results under £60 - WOW!
Advantages: Value for Money, Rock-Solid Performance
Disadvantages: Quite simply none :D
...Just so you are aware: I've reviewed this already, but there's two of these on Ciao, exactly the same product - thought I'd cover both with my review so you buyers get to read it :D

Midi's the kiddy
Advantages: Cheap and fun
Disadvantages: None that I can think of
...should hear a sound, probably a piece of music, but it depends upon what exactly you chose. As long as you heard a sound then life is great and you have a midi capable sound card on your computer, which means that you can turn your PC into a great little musical instrument and recording studio. Good huh? No? Not impressed? Just you wait, you will be.
In the extremely unlikely event that you don't have a '.mid' file on your PC then simply go and search for one on the web. There're millions of the bloody things out there!
The work that would eventually result in MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) began as a conversation between three audio engineers at a trade show in June 1981. I. Kakehashi (Roland Corporation), Tom Oberheim (Oberhiem Electronics) and Dave Smith (Sequential Circuits) were all concerned with the difficulty...
