The application also allows you to make backups to ".toast" files or the OSX standard compressed disk image, ".dmg" This is particularly handy for creating web-distributable installers or packages where size is a consideration. I've used many CD and DVD authoring applications on both PC and Mac, like Nero, EasyCD, etc. I've always found that they're either aimed at experienced users or completely inexperienced users. Whilst Nero tried to cater for both by bundling "Nero Burning ROM" and "Nero Express" in it's premium package, the former for professionals and the latter for new users, I didn't like the idea of separate programs. ...I purchased the Iomega Zip drive for inexpensive backup purposes when my computer crashed and I realized how lame my backup process was. I had a lot to lose. The Iomega boasts its backup capabilities and it delivers somewhat, but there are some drawbacks to the equipment. One its storage disks are prone to the same types of mechanical failures as are plain old 1.44 floppys. Moving parts = potential for failure. Also the labelling of the Zip disks makes for mistakes in choosing the right disk and ordering the right disks for your type of computer. They all look the same. Now this may sound stupid, but I wasn't the only one to think so. I ordered some over the phone and was sent the disks for a Mac. I never questioned them so I never looked at the labels of what was sent. What a pain. The disks are also very expensive ~$9 when compared... Read review

...Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is the biggest update to the Mac operating system since OS X was first released. It is the first update that I would recommend purchasing on it's own rather than waiting till you need to upgrade to a new Macintosh computer. Some of the most useful features are Time Machine which is a one button backup system (it requires an external hard drive), Spaces, an application that helps organize applications when multitasking , and Bootcamp that allows Windows XP or Vista to load natively on Intel Macintosh computers. Bootcamp alone gives you the functionality of having a whole other computer if you need to run windows applications and don't wish to use a program like parallels or virtual PC that don't run at native speeds. ...SOMETHING TO CONSIDER FOR MAC USERS! When I researched this drive, I noticed that a 200GB version was being marketed for Mac users. This drive was priced a few pounds less than the 300GB, with the only difference being (as far as I could tell) that it was preformatted for a Mac. Given that it's a simple and quick task to reformat these drives for use with a Mac AND that they ship with the Mac version of the back-up software on disk, it seems a pointless waste of money to pay nearly as much for 100GB less space. (Note: correct at time of writing) Novice users may not be aware that they have the ability to reformat the PC version. I have had to contact Ofcom on many occasions, but they have no power to force mac (migration authority) code, there is absolutely no hope of a refund, without our mac code the only way to get another broadband connection is through cancelling the phone line and getting a new number. Be warned.... this is a sham outfit, who have the cheek to upgrade their home webage to attract new customers whilst leaving the old customers in the brown stuff.
