Mac OS X matures with age!

Advantages: Faster and better. New features for both home and pro users.
Disadvantages: Hardware-hog, pricey upgrade from Panther.

...Mac OS X Tiger is the latest version of the Mac OS X releases, taking over from where Mac OS X Panther (or 10.3) left off. Now..Lets move onto Tiger itself. So what's new? Apple's site quotes over 200+ new features in this OS. In reality there are a handful of new additions that are worth much to the end-user. Firstly a new searching technology called 'Spotlight' has been introduced. This is an effective indexing of the contents of the hard drive that includes both Filenames and indeed file contents (which means you can search for a reference to 'Dogshome' in a PDF document). When you first install Tiger, Spotlight takes 10-15minutes to index your disk contents, and this indexing is updated on a second by second basis meaning its always up to date. To search a file you can use the spotlight icon in the top right hand corner...

Review of Mac OS X Tiger 10.4 Complete package

Mac OS X (Complete Package)

Advantages: Very similar to Windows XP
Disadvantages: Very different from Mac OS 9

...I use an Mac for work purposes and a PC at home. On the Mac, time is of great importance and every feature that saves time saves money and there are quite a few great time saving features on Mac OS X that do just that! If you are a PC user and currently use Windows XP then the new operating for the Apple Mac will be very appealing to you. It is very similar in many ways to that of Windows XP. One of the main differences that Mac OS X has which is one of my favourite features is that it has what is called a dock. This is a bar that can sit either at the bottom of the screen or on either side and you can use it to add in short cuts to all your software. Also if you have folders that you access alot and you don't want to keep trying to find them all the time then you can add them to the dock. All you then have to do is go to the dock...

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

Advantages: Latest Release of Mac OS X; Cheap for those upgrading from Leopard
Disadvantages: No support for PPC processor (which is understandable, however)

...many there are in there) of your files. Which is useful instead of having to click on the Finder. Overall if your moving from Tiger to Snow Leopard, it may be worthwhile with some of its cool new features - and because Tiger is getting a little old if I may say so myself - nevertheless, I think its a worthwhile upgrade for Leopard users, at around £25/$29 its worth it for the long run. If your transitioning from a PC to a Mac with Snow Leopard, I'm sure you'll appreciate the graphically stunning interface although may take some time to get use to the differences. The major difference is the mouse tracking speed; each operating system uses a different tracking algorithm - Windows uses a different algorithm to Mac OS X. Mouse tracking / speed may take some time to get use to in OS X, due to OS X's different algorithm....

Review of Mac OS X (v10.6) Snow Leopard

Mac OSX Tiger

Advantages: harder, better, faster, stronger
Disadvantages: lack of software compared to windows

...I haven't been able to find a review on here for Mac OSX Tiger, so here's my little bit, well its quite long actually. I've been using my first mac for almost 6 months now, so I've got used to the operating system now at first it was a bit daunting, from using windows pc's for years, and knowing my way around it pretty well. I considered myself to be pretty good with computers and i was able to solve any problems I had myself however... I had really had enough with the amount of spywear and viruses infecting my computer, constantly having to run programes such as Norton, that would kindly tell me that i had a virus, but then also tell me that it could do nothing about it. The final straw for me was when I installed an update from Windows Automatic Updater, and it seemed to delete some of the system files on my computer and Windows...

Review of Mac OS X Tiger 10.4 Complete package

The best OS I've ever used

Advantages: Fast, easy to use, runs PPC and Intel binaries, fantastic range of free software
Disadvantages: Can't think of any

...I purchased my first Mac at the beginning of this year (MacBook) and I've never regretted doing so. The machine's hardware was something spectacular but it's done justice by the quite outstanding operating system which comes in the guise of OS X 10.4. OS X 10.4 is arguably the most impressive operating sytem to look at. The amazing smooth liquid effects, the scalable icons and attention to detail is brilliant. It makes the whole system an absolute job to use. But the fun doesn't stop there. OS X 10.4 handles like a dream too. If you're a diehard Windows user then if your coming across to the Mac for the first time you'll definitely experience something new. Programs are handled differently (for example closing the window doesn't actually close the program) and your applications are stored in an Applications folder rather than in...

OS X Leopard Review

Advantages: 64 Bit, New improved programs, Spaces, Time Machine, Stacks, Coverflow.
Disadvantages: New 3d Dock can be annoying

...OS X 10.5 Leopard is fast, stable and has a set of new features. Time Machine to back up and restore you files, Spaces to organize your desktop and keep you more organized, Quick Look to preview and browse your files without even opening a program, Stacks to keep you desktop clean and free from large amounts of files and to organize downloads, Cover Flow for a visually stunning way to browse you Pictures applications and other files. Parental controls include Bedtime and time limits. Many kids would sit at the computer for days if you let them. Fortunately, Leopard makes it easier to set the rules. Just enter bedtime and time limits for using the Mac, specifying different times for weekdays and weekends if you wish. Parental controls can also log your kids' activities to help you keep them from communicating with people they shouldn...

Review of Apple Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

The Best OS Apple created so far

Advantages: Very easy to install and use, more than 300 cool features
Disadvantages: none

...After more than two years from its first Launched. The Mac OS X 10.5 a.k.a Leopard. Is the most flexible, powerful and easy to use OS. One of the greatest Apple ever released. The first Apple OS I lay hands on when I first bought the Black MacBook ever since I was a little kid still goofing off with Apple IIe BASIC language programming. The Mac OS X 10.5 leopard is very easy to use, For those people who transform themselves into a first-timer Mac-User should adapt very easily using this OS. This UNIX based OS have lots of my most favorite key features. EVERY part of the OS is operated with just as easy as a click of your mouse. My Favorite Key Features * The Desktop Organize your open windowed apps so easily, you can even have up to four desktop with each apps assigned to it using Spaces And up to as many app layers as you...

Review of Apple Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

One of the latest Apple Mac products - equipment and support

Advantages: Superb screen, superior speakers, huge capacity, multiplicity of functions, brilliant photo suite
Disadvantages: A new 'language' to learn and company support not as good as one would expect.

...We bought the Apple Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard recently. This cost a little under £1K from PC World (there are other outlets). The main reason why we bought this product is that we wanted to get away from the problems of 'Vista' and other issues with Microsoft Windows. This is a superb computer. It has a magnificent 24" flat screen and is very well constructed. It has a very impressive capacity and since we bought it in August it has run very well indeed. I would have rated it with 5 stars were it not for the support being less impressive than the product. Being a 'petrolhead' I compare the service with what I would expect from a vehicle dealership, and in the case of Mac it does not match up all that well. You get 90 days free telephone consultation when you buy the product, but this is not available at weekends or late in the evening...

Review of Apple Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

Biggest OS X Update yet

Advantages: Many new features, Full support for Windows
Disadvantages: OS upgrades used to be free

...Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is the biggest update to the Mac operating system since OS X was first released. It is the first update that I would recommend purchasing on it's own rather than waiting till you need to upgrade to a new Macintosh computer. Some of the most useful features are Time Machine which is a one button backup system (it requires an external hard drive), Spaces, an application that helps organize applications when multitasking , and Bootcamp that allows Windows XP or Vista to load natively on Intel Macintosh computers. Bootcamp alone gives you the functionality of having a whole other computer if you need to run windows applications and don't wish to use a program like parallels or virtual PC that don't run at native speeds. Quicklook and Stacks in the dock are both excellent time saving features. Quicklook allows a small...

Review of Apple Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

OS X, Mmmm.

Advantages: Simple, Stable, eyecandy
Disadvantages: Documentation

...the point that you open a terminal window the machine is every bit a Mac, but with the terminal running, you have everything that Unix users take for granted. Long time Mac users can take heart in the fact that you can use the system without ever touching the terminal, it's just a nice extra feature for the geekier among us. Apple's email application is wonderful, it's not very flashy, but it does exactly what a mail program should do, without trying to be everything else at the same time. The same applies to the other included programs, they all work well without carrying unnecessary weight, and with nice clean interfaces. Adding hardware is a pleasant experience, provided you buy hardware that is supported by OS X, there should be no problems getting it working, I added a second graphics card, and when the machine had finished booting, I had...
