Therapy? - Crooked Timber

Advantages: Catchy riffs and grooves.
Disadvantages: Could be doing with a few more tracks after a 3 year break

...After a 3 year break, re-grouping, re-focusing and re-energising as they put it, Therapy? are back, and dare I say it, better than ever, with "Crooked Timber" - a follow up from 2006's "One Cure Fits All". An album they themselves describe as focusing more on rhythm than melody, it is certainly a step away from their previous rough and raw releases of "Suicide Pact - You First" and more recently "Never Apologise Never Explain" from 2004. This album seems much more suited to the mainstream, much like their previous effort. Here's my run-down of the tracks as they play on the album. Crooked House-Agatha Christie-see the crooked side of you

Advantages: - Thrilling, good treatment to details of every character.
Disadvantages: -Might appear unbelievable at a few instances

...This book apart from being a nice reading, brings out psychological aspects of various characters in the most amazing way, from a 13 year old child to a 70 year old man. Invisible crookedness i.e. crookedness of mind is the most dangerous thing around. Anything which is not in the proper order gives a strange feeling. any usual thing kept unusually makes people suspicious. For example, a picture hanging upside down will make one feel uneasy though it might be just by accident. In the same fashion, the only fact that a particular person resides in a crooked house brings uneasiness to the reader about some crookedness which might have crept in the personality of the resident. The best part about the book is, the murderer and the murdered, none seem to be guilty and none seem to be innocent. Overall, an enjoyable read....

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

DeLonghi Treviso - By Hook Or By Crook, You WILL Last Three Years

Advantages: Inexpensive, makes good basic coffee

A Homme-age to Led Zep, Foos and Queens of the Stoneage

Advantages: Soars above anything else I've heard this year. Most Talon-ted act of 2009 gets my vote :)

...I have always been one to shy away from 'supergroups' A term which usually conjures up embarrassing images of past-it rockers of a bygone era, sometimes making a last ditched attempt at re-launching their career. What we have here is a million miles away. In fact, its as almost as though this album has spent a generation circling the canyons in the immense temperatures of the mid-western sun, just waiting for it's opportunity to pick the bones from it's condemned carrion competitors. With that said, if your mind is hovering on checking out this album, I order you to immediately separate the likes of Audioslave and Velvet Revolver from your CD collection and give this little devil its own shelf space. ...Mackenzies Restaurant is set in a cottage style house and is in the heart of Colinton Village near Redford Barracks. You go right into the village and just opposite the traffic lights, there is a row of shops and MacKenzies is right at the top! MacKenzies is named after henry Mackenzie who is was the Edinburgh Born writer and Lawer who lived in the cottage next to the restaurant! The restaurant is a brightly yet dimly lit restaurant! As you go in the door, there is a smallish type Bar from which the drinks are served. You are greeted here by the staff who then show you to your table. There are 2 parts to the restaurant. ...Mr Creep the Crook is a short story from the Happy Families Collection of books. The front cover of the book is pink with a picture of a crook and the title above this in green lettering and above the title is the Happy Families logo in darker pink rectangles. The back cover of the book is also pink and has a white rectangle in the middle showing small pictures of other books available in the collection.
