Billy Madison review

Advantages: Stupidly funny!

...Billy Madison is another comedy film starring the as yet unknown at the time Adam Sandler. It was made in 1995 when Sandler was still on Saturday Night Live. Adam Sandler plays the titular character; he's 27 and the son of Bryan Madison (Darren McGavin), a very rich hotel magnate. So he has never worked a day in his life and doesn't know the true meaning of money as everything is just given to him. But Bryan is retiring, and is torn about whether to give it to Billy or to Eric Gordon (Bradley Whitford), a slimy co-worker at Madison Hotels. So Billy strikes a deal with his dad: he will go through each school grade and pass their exams in a short period of time in order for him to become the head of the company. If he fails, it goes to Gordon. And if that isn't enough pressure, he gets heckled at school, goofs off as much as he can...

Advantages: Steve Buscemi cameo, Bridgette Wilson (delightful)
Disadvantages: More or less everythingabout the film!

...Having had mixed views on Sandler films in the past, I was flicking through the sky movies channels (as i so often do) on friday night and stumbled across 'Billy Madison'. Billy Madison is a comedy film made in 1995 which is directed by Tamra Davis. The film is co-written by Adam Sandler and Tim Herlihy, and the film is produced by Universal Pictures. So what is it all about? ------------------------------ When Brian Madison (Darren McGavin) makes a decision to retire from the hotel chain that he owns, it would seem that the logical choice would be to hand down the business to his only son, Billy (Adam Sandler). ...On our recent visit to New York one of the things on our' to do' list was a visit to Madison Square Gardens. Whether you are a sports fan or not most people have heard of this great entertainment centre. History I fact there have been four Madison Square Gardens ( MSG from now on). The First Garden 1 (1879- 1890 ) Garden 1 was situated at Madison Square; 26th Street and Madison Avenue. It was a building without a roof and was named MSG by William Vanderbilt in 1879 and was used for horse shows, dog shows and circuses. Boxing events were also staged there. ...Billy Madison is a film directed by Tamra Davis. She is the wife of Mike D of the Beastie Boys and directed Beastie Boys: Video Anthology in 2000. She also directed Crossroads staring Britney Spears. Adam Sandler plays Billy Madison the main character in this film. Billy is a lazy young man who spends his days drinking and hanging around with his friends. His father is a millionaire hotel owner who is looking to retire and turn the company over to his only son but because billy is lazy he has second thoughts and decides to pass it onto his Vice President Eric instead of Billy. Billy and Eric can't stand each other so Billy bets Eric and his father that he can complete grades 1-12 in about 6 months (2 weeks for each grade). If he succeeds, he takes over the company. If he loses, however, Eric will in fact take over Madison Hotels...

A Town's future is riding with one man.

Advantages: Actors and the soundtrack
Disadvantages: Slow in places

Based on a true story, Madison ( Indiana ) was a boat racing town, the busiest one in the mid west and was the first professional boat race held in the USA. The town had it's own boat called Miss Madison. Jim McCormick was the driver for Miss Madison until he had a accident in June 1961 barley surviving, ending his career and taking his best friends life. Dont Bother!

...Being a fan of Adam Sandler and the usual rubbish being on the TV, I saw this film and decided to give it a try. What a disappointment it was. Adam plays the part of Billy Madison who's family own large hotels and are millionaires. Billy is set to inherit the fortune when his father retires. He is a fun loving man and does not take life seriously. All he has done since leaving school is sit around drinking and playing practical jokes. Eric works with Billy's father at their company and he starts talking Billy dad around to leaving him the company instead as he says Billy will not be able to run it properly. A quieter side to Blackpool.

Advantages: Clean, friendly and great value for money.
Disadvantages: None worthy of mention during my two night stay.

...I am not long back from a weekend trip to Blackpool but as I have already reviewed the hotel I stayed in, as I had stayed there before, I thought I would rewind to a business trip I had to Blackpool last year and a nice hotel I stayed in then. The hotel in question for my business trip was the Belgrave Madison hotel, this hotel was recommended to me by a friend and I was very happy with his recommendation. My friend had told me of the great service, friendly atmosphere and the disconnection with what Blackpool is all about (ie) noise and hustle and bustle, and he was 100% correct. This Garden is definitely worth a visit

At the time there was a music act I had never heard of or the chance to watch the New York Knicks, a basketball team who compete in the NBA league. I opted for the latter. Madison Square Garden is known by many worldwide as the world's most famous arena and has held a variety of events over its 41 years at its present venue in downtown Manhattan. This is the fourth Garden to have been built in New York since 1879 when the first one was erected. At present it hosts all types of events including boxing, basketball, hockey, to name a few and also many music and dance acts which have set New York alight. For basketball matches the capacity of the crowd is 19,763, but this will vary for all types of events...

...I have been patiently waiting for the release of this DVD since going to see Bon Jovi last year on their 'Lost Highway' tour. Not long after the tour ended, news came out that a DVD would be released from Bon Jovi's homecoming concert at Madison Square Garden, New York. The DVD was finally released this week on 23rd November, and as I had my copy pre-ordered from Amazon, my copy dropped through my letterbox the day after release.
