Holiday Inn Madrid
Advantages: Nice staff, clean, kettle in the room
Disadvantages: The local area, rather expensive
...This is yet another hotel stayed in when travelling with work.
It's a four star hotel (Ciao has it listed as a three star) and is located in the business district in Madrid. The Estadio Santiago Bernabeau, the home of Real Madrid football club is also very close by if you are interested in football. Public transport is very good-metro station and bus stop near by, the bus is one Euro into central Madrid and unlike London they have plenty of bus lanes and regular services-every 5 minutes. And no over-crowding or rubbish strewn everywhere!
The hotel itself is a typical sprawling 1980's concrete block. The surrounding area is a bit dodgy at night and opposite the hotel is a boarded up cinema. In fact the whole area is pretty much a concrete jungle and I would be careful with going out after dark as it's pretty deserted once...

Kraking location - Holiday Inn City Centre, Krakow
Advantages: Great location as a base to visit this city, well recommended
Disadvantages: Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for
...Krakow's airport (Pope John Paul II Airport) which is served from the UK by easyJet and British Airways.
The airport is about 11k from the city and there is a nearby train station from which you can travel cheaply in a journey taking about 15 minutes. I made the mistake of walking from Krakow station to my accommodation (it did not look very far on the map!) and I regretted hauling luggage over cobbled streets. You can get trams or taxis from the railway station readily all over the city.
Krakow is on the banks of the Vistula River and the old part of town is a horseshoe shape with the open end of the horseshoe at the bottom on the river banks (the horseshoe, in fact, is where the old city walls used to be - more about this later).
The Holiday Inn is just outside this horseshoe, only a short distance from the most historic sights...

City Centre Madrid Hotel On a Shoestring
Advantages: Very close to city centre and transport, Cheap.
Disadvantages: Can be noisy
...Me and my girlfriend decided to visit Madrid last summer. So being the students that we are we booked cheap flights on easyjet. That was the easy bit. The hard part came later when we had to decide on a hotel to stay in. We wanted somewhere close to the city centre as we were only there for a few days but we had to do it on a budget but wanted to go slightly better than a hostel, it was after all our first holiday abroad together.
::: Why The Asturias?? :::
We eventually settled on the Hotel Asturias because it fitted what we wanted. It is extremely close to the city centre which is what we wanted as we were only there for 3 nights. It is only minutes away from the Calle Gran Via, one of the main shopping streets in Madrid. It is also minutes away from two metro stations (in opposite directions, either Sol or Sevilla which will...

Excellent base for exploring Madrid city centre
Advantages: Esxcellent location, spacious clean rooms
Disadvantages: Small reception area and lift.
...Madrid) and so is in a very central location. The hotel is on a quiet side street and seemed to be in an area undergoing regeneration (a couple of other buildings in the street were being refurbished but there was no noise or disturbance that we noticed).
We found it took us about 20 minutes to walk to the Plaza del Sol, and perhaps 30 minutes to the Plaza Mayor, two other major areas in the centre of Madrid. There are a couple of metro stations nearby and so this was a good base for exploring the rest of the city as well (and easy to find your way back to!).
This hotel conversion is most successful and we found this to be a very comfortable place to stay that is within easy reach of the main sights, shopping and nightlife of Madrid. I would highly recommend this hotel for a short break in Madrid....

Holidaying at the Holiday Inn
Advantages: Great Staff , 5 min walk into city
Disadvantages: small bath
...We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Cardiff City Centre recently. The reason for our visit was because I was auditioning for the X Factor (again! - I didn't get through :( ) . We chose Holiday Inn because we had stayed at the hotel on many occasions before and were pleased with it and it's value for money.
The hotel is located right by the Millenium Stadium. This was convenient for us because the auditioning for the X Factor took place in the Stadium. The hotel is a short 5 minute walk from the high street which was good!
Our room was located overlooking the Stadium's car park. This was good because this was where the queuing for the auditions took place. We were told to be there for 8AM however , when we woke up at 5Am the queue was massive!

We had to go through two sets of large automatic doors to get into...

Holiday Inn Express Leeds the way to good service.
Advantages: Excellent self-service breakfast. Clean rooms and good facilities.
Disadvantages: Rooms are a bit too small generally. Bit expensive.
...On my trips to Leeds I always book into the Holiday Inn Express, chiefly because it is the closest hotel to where I need to be. Within this review I refer to my last experience of staying there about 10 months ago.
Outside the building doesn't look too attractive, and the entrance is a bit basic with its blue doors and plants. However, when you make your way through the doors, the lobby is much more impressive. As I approached the counter to sign in, I was greeted by a member of the staff politely within a few seconds. I had already booked so it was just a matter of signing the piece of paper and taking my key card for my room. I was on the 6th of its 7 floors and being rather lazy, decided to take one of the 2 lifts they have. The corridor I travelled down to my room is rather luxurious, and lacks the certain cheap and tacky...

Madrid, The City that shouldn't exist....
Advantages: Lively, great for culture, food, shopping
Disadvantages: Extremes of temperatures, can be noisy all night
...Madrid is one of those cities, like Brasilia or Islamabad, which were invented for political reasons, rather than springing up organically because it had a natural harbour, or was on a confluence of rivers, or a fertile plain. It shouldn't really exist, perched as it is deep in the dusty interior of Spain, intolerably hot at the height of summer, and often bitterly cold in winter. It's the artificial capital of a maritime nation, a seafood loving nation, stranded as far from the sea as is possible on the Iberian peninsula.
Yet despite everything, including the still recent dull, soul sapping Francoist interregnum, Madrid is a thrilling city to visit, with something for everyone (except beach lovers, obviously).
It's possible to stay cheaply in Madrid in one of the many hostales lurking in places like Fuencarral off the Gran Via...

Exploring the Province of Madrid
Advantages: Splendid architecture and surrounding nature
Disadvantages: destinations are scattered and hard to reach by public transport
...Leon, 70 and 100 miles west of Madrid respectively.
2. To the city of Toledo in the province of Castilia - La Mancha, 50 miles south of Madrid.
BUT: while all these places are beautiful and worth a visit, they are also flocked by tourists from March to October.
Thus I have chosen a slightly different itinerary, maybe not completely off the beaten track, but exclusive enough to let you get away from the busloads of all-inclusive-tourists (went there, did that, bought the T-shirt) and Japanese visitor groups (view the world through the lens of a video camera).

Starting with this article, I am applying this system to my longer travel reviews which cover more than just one sight in a city, region or country. This shall...

Express By Holiday Inn Aberdeen
Advantages: Location, Cost.
Disadvantages: None
...Holiday Inn Express Aberdeen
This hotel is a modern, purpose built hotel with 155 bedrooms.
We Stayed at this Hotel on Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th of May 2007. We were meeting two of our Ciao friends and wanted somewhere near central Aberdeen.
Location: Chapel Street, off Union Street; the main thoroughfare of Aberdeen, with The Bon Accord Shopping Centre and various pubs, eateries and lots of little side streets with exclusive shops.
Cost: Four person bedroom: double bed and sofa bed: £55.00 per room, per night.
The main Entrance has a Small reception area with a few comfortable sofas and a bar area to the left with further comfortable seating, coffee tables and two large screen televisions.
The staff were very friendly and courteous and gave us a warm welcome.
A little further along is the dining area...

Great value in Berlin city centre
Advantages: Value
Disadvantages: Nothing springs to mind
...My friend and I went to Berlin earlier on this month for a short break to get away from the bad Scottish weather. We were away for three days and four nights and were looking for somewhere cheap but comfortable to stay. We ended up staying at the Holiday Inn Express City Centre West.
Cost
Cost is always my prime consideration when making any purchase so I was delighted with the price of £27 per person per night for a twin room at the Holiday Inn Express, especially given the poor Euro exchange rate for tourists. This was a special offer from one of the many websites that offers good deals on hotels. The special offer gave 25% off the standard price so the standard price would be £36 per night. This is still pretty good value I think, for the reasons listed below in my review?
