City Centre Madrid Hotel On a Shoestring

Advantages: Very close to city centre and transport, Cheap.
Disadvantages: Can be noisy

...visited the Centro De Arte Reina Sofia. There are several permanent exhibitions here including works by artists such as Salvador Dalí, Juan Gris, Picasso, to name just a few. And well worth a visit, I believe the entrance price is 6 euros, although we were able to get a student discount which was around 4euros. There is of course much more to do in Madrid but I just wanted to give a flavour of some of the attractions. ::: Conclusion ::: I would certainly recommend a trip to Madrid, it is a fantastic, vibrant city and well worth a city break. The hotel Asturias where we stayed was very pleasant and had a great location whilst remaining relatively cheap. The hotel was fairly basic, but for the price not much could be expected and we believe it was fantastic value and so would highly recommend. Especially if like us you are a couple...

TRAVEL CITY SCAM!

Advantages: NONE AT ALL!
Disadvantages: IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE AND BANK BALANCE DONT BOOK WITH TRAVEL CITY DIRECT EVER!

...Seriously if you value your health you will not book your holiday through travel city, whom are now part of the xl leisure group plc, and use xl as their airline carriers! My family and i, two adults and three kids youngest aged 6 thought we had a reasonable deal when we booked our recent holiday to orlando. It was our fourth visit and the first time we had booked with T.C.D, we also purchased sunshine first seats aswell as house and car hire as a package. When we first boarded the xl boeing 767 on the 1st feb 07 our first impression was reasonable seat pitch and that im afraid to say is the only positive thing to say. There was no meal choice for 1st class passengers and all my daughter and i was offered was salmon? 8 hrs into the 10 hr flight my daughter aged 6 violently vomitted and my husband and i started feeling very unwell...

Excellent base for exploring Madrid city centre

Advantages: Esxcellent location, spacious clean rooms
Disadvantages: Small reception area and lift.

...Madrid) and so is in a very central location. The hotel is on a quiet side street and seemed to be in an area undergoing regeneration (a couple of other buildings in the street were being refurbished but there was no noise or disturbance that we noticed). We found it took us about 20 minutes to walk to the Plaza del Sol, and perhaps 30 minutes to the Plaza Mayor, two other major areas in the centre of Madrid. There are a couple of metro stations nearby and so this was a good base for exploring the rest of the city as well (and easy to find your way back to!). This hotel conversion is most successful and we found this to be a very comfortable place to stay that is within easy reach of the main sights, shopping and nightlife of Madrid. I would highly recommend this hotel for a short break in Madrid....

Holiday Inn Madrid

Advantages: Nice staff, clean, kettle in the room
Disadvantages: The local area, rather expensive

...This is yet another hotel stayed in when travelling with work. It's a four star hotel (Ciao has it listed as a three star) and is located in the business district in Madrid. The Estadio Santiago Bernabeau, the home of Real Madrid football club is also very close by if you are interested in football. Public transport is very good-metro station and bus stop near by, the bus is one Euro into central Madrid and unlike London they have plenty of bus lanes and regular services-every 5 minutes. And no over-crowding or rubbish strewn everywhere! The hotel itself is a typical sprawling 1980's concrete block. The surrounding area is a bit dodgy at night and opposite the hotel is a boarded up cinema. In fact the whole area is pretty much a concrete jungle and I would be careful with going out after dark as it's pretty deserted once...

The Incompetence of Travel City Direct

Advantages: None spring to mind now
Disadvantages: Ruined family holiday

...11pm, but we would be updated at 1pm. Oh well, the hurricane, can't be helped. We eventually check our luggage in and settled down to a day at gatwick airport. At 1pm we waited but no update and no Travel City Direct reps to be found, in fact we had to wait until 5pm for an announcement for passengers on our flight to go down to the check in desk. We were then told that our flight had only just left Sanford airport on its way back and we would not now be going until the early hours of Sunday morning, but another update would come at 7pm. At 7pm we were told we would be updated at 8pm. At 8pm there were no reps around and by now approx 450 passengers were looking for information. Eventually the police arrived and wanted to know what all these people were doing there, this resulted in calls for Travel City Direct reps being called...

Travel City Direct

Advantages: First Class cabin
Disadvantages: Hurricanes may delay take-off from UK

...We have travelled with Travel City Direct twice now, and I have not had any problems that stick in my mind. Although we did travel 1st class for better service and easier check-in etc, there were no delays and the flights were fine. I would recommend utilising their pre flight bag check in: basically you check your bags in with TCD in the morning of your last day away and you don't see them again until you arrive back. Unfortunatley our summer holiday time does coinside with Florida's hurricane season but have only had two minor ones when over there. The planes were the ones featured on their website and the food was better than any other airline I have been on, would definately go with them again...

Travel city and luxury florida villas

Advantages: last minute deals actually available, keys for villa accomodation are picked up on arrival at Sanford Airport
Disadvantages: none

...I am a bargain hunter for everything I buy, and last minute holidays are no exception to this rule! Travel city at the time I booked my last holiday were the cheapest I found on the teletext, and as the other opinions say on here a lot of the last minute deals that are advertised are never available when you phone for them. Travel city did have all the advertised dates available when i phoned to book a holiday. I have done a hotel holiday in florida once but I much prefer to have the luxury of a private villa, they are always of a very high standard and they have everything you could possibly need from a washing machine right to your own private pool! The biggest plus with Travel City also is that at Sanford Airport they have a check in desk where you can obtain the keys to your property, this is a great plus for both the frequent...

Exploring the Province of Madrid

Advantages: Splendid architecture and surrounding nature
Disadvantages: destinations are scattered and hard to reach by public transport

...Leon, 70 and 100 miles west of Madrid respectively. 2. To the city of Toledo in the province of Castilia - La Mancha, 50 miles south of Madrid. BUT: while all these places are beautiful and worth a visit, they are also flocked by tourists from March to October. Thus I have chosen a slightly different itinerary, maybe not completely off the beaten track, but exclusive enough to let you get away from the busloads of all-inclusive-tourists (went there, did that, bought the T-shirt) and Japanese visitor groups (view the world through the lens of a video camera). AUTHOR'S NOTE: INDIVIDUALISED RATING SYSTEM Starting with this article, I am applying this system to my longer travel reviews which cover more than just one sight in a city, region or country. This shall...

Madrid, The City that shouldn't exist....

Advantages: Lively, great for culture, food, shopping
Disadvantages: Extremes of temperatures, can be noisy all night

...Madrid is one of those cities, like Brasilia or Islamabad, which were invented for political reasons, rather than springing up organically because it had a natural harbour, or was on a confluence of rivers, or a fertile plain. It shouldn't really exist, perched as it is deep in the dusty interior of Spain, intolerably hot at the height of summer, and often bitterly cold in winter. It's the artificial capital of a maritime nation, a seafood loving nation, stranded as far from the sea as is possible on the Iberian peninsula. Yet despite everything, including the still recent dull, soul sapping Francoist interregnum, Madrid is a thrilling city to visit, with something for everyone (except beach lovers, obviously). It's possible to stay cheaply in Madrid in one of the many hostales lurking in places like Fuencarral off the Gran Via...

Travel City Direct

Advantages: efficient, pleasant staff
Disadvantages: smelly flight seats

...I had booked with Travel City Direct before reading reviews on other sites. After reading many many complaints I was very apprenhensive on my forthcoming holiday. 14 night for 8 people at Florida. However I can honestly say it was one of the best holidays I have had. Arrived at Sandford airport, no delays. Picked up car - lovely spacious had a little trouble finding accomodation but that was due to the fact my husband wouldn't take a little time in studying route - just jumped in and went. Key pad number provided for door to beautiful villa. Spotlessly clean plenty of towels, crockery etc. Brilliantly sized bedrooms. Very clean and safe jacuzzi and pool. At meeting following day rep helpful and informative. Only complaint - plane seats were very close to toilets and every so often horrendous smells!!!!!!***** Overall good...
