...My friend Alison works for the company which I left almost exactly a year ago. In the time since I joined my new company we've tried and failed to get together many times, only clocking up two nights out so we were well overdue for a catch up. Since she works close to Manchester airport and I was flying in at a respectable time for a change, I headed straight round to see her when I landed. We'd had an exchange of text messages over the previous couple of days to see if we could agree a place to have dinner. She won last time and we had eaten in a really awful Turkish restaurant in Wilmslow, so this time I got the right to push my choice on her. I fancied Thai ? but then I generally do ? and she tracked down the almost unpronounceable Mae Gaew in Knutsford.
Knutsford is a good choice for dinner if you haven't thought to book ahead...

Review of Maes Pils
Advantages: Wet, quite refreshing Disadvantages: Thin and watery
...You might find it surprising that in Belgium, home of a gazillion different beer styles which are arguably some of the tastiest and most interesting beers in the world, never mind the mind-boggling variety on offer, that some of the most popular and widely consumed beer is in fact pils-style lager.
On the other hand, considering the power of global branding and aggressive marketing, together with the dormant taste-buds of the masses, you might not.
Maes Pils is one such lager that can be found almost everywhere and is a serious competitor to the likes of Stella Artois and Jupiler.
Can you imagine living in a country where almost every pub sells beers like Orval and Chimay and your drink of choice is Stella.
No, I can't either.

Review of Maes Pils
Advantages: Watchable, sometimes scary Disadvantages: Weak plot
...Mak and Nak are two young lovers about to get married. Mak is worried about some dreams he has been having about a ghostly woman who appears to want something from him, but he puts it to the back of his mind while looking at a beautiful old house. Although the house is in need of repair, they buy it from dodgy real estate agent, who does his best to rip them off. Fortunately, he dies a rather violent death before he can do any harm and the house is theirs.
A few days later, the house is broken in to by two local thieves, who steal the newly weds' wedding present. When Mak sees the thieves on the street selling their wrapped presents, he chases them, but they run him down and he falls into a coma. Distraught, Nak sits by his side and is flabbergasted when he suddenly comes out of his coma to tell her that she needs to find Mae Nak...
Advantages: Romantic, funny, sad, everything all in one. Disadvantages: Too perfect for real life

If your answer is ?yes? and ?yes?, then the cat thrillers written by the human Rita Mae Brown and her feline co-author, tiger cat Sneaky Pie Brown, may be something for you. The series started in 1990, over the years I?ve read two or three books but can?t remember which as the titles aren?t very distinctive and I mix them up easily. Recently when browsing on Amazon I came across a cover with a cat on it, I felt nostalgic and wanted to find out if the series was still going strong, so I ordered the paperback No 15.
The series is set in the small town of Cozet in Virginia, but in Puss ?n Cahoots Mary Minor Haristeen, aka Harry, the main human character, and Pharamond Haristeen, aka Fair, an equine vet, are on their second honeymoon which they spend in Shelbyville, Kentucky where they visit...

Their leaflet supplies plenty of information about the attraction and why you would want to visit. The attractions advertised include a rural heritage museum, an officer's mess, RAF museum, 1940s shop fronts, a street of yesteryear, and more.
It costs £5 to get in for adults with reductions for senior citizens and children. There is a parking field, which when we arrived, mid morning in August, had two other cars. There were various staff milling around dressed in 1940 clothing, but very few people spoke to us. As 3 adults we handed over a £20 and the man at the entrance had to go and find some change.

Review of Maes Artro
Advantages: some very good instrumental tracks Disadvantages: vocals in some tracks, some strange non classical tracks
...I have to say I have loved Vanessa-mae ever since I heard her play on tv when I was about 4 or 5.
I did however forget about her, but was searching online for cds and came accross this one of hers and bought it instantly, and it reminded me of why I liked her so much. Such tallent!
Red Hot (Symphonic Mix)
This starts off with some medium speed voilin, the energy is building up throughout the track and then more instruments are introduced half way through and then the energy builds up to include an orchestra of instruments. Then it goes back to how it started for the finish, medium speed violin.

This is an unusual track, with some vocals. A more like a dance track than a classical one. I am not at all keen on this track

...After the laid-back, nature-oriented, happy town of Pai, Mae Hong Son was a real shock. We thought that a town on the Myanmar border would be even more wild and remote, but this turned out to be a wrong assumption. It seems that close proximity to the opium barons is lucrative.
Mae Hong Son is full of stores carrying modern supplies and restaurants serving farang (foreign) food. There is a steady stream of moped traffic and even the occasional 4x4, so keep that in mind if you are thinking of eating roadside. The scenery is beautiful, but the town is not one with nature like Pai. Rather it is very much a giant suburb surrounded by jungle.
The jungle and the steep mountains are very appealing. If you decide to trek from here, be ready for a rugged, difficult climb on most of the days you are out. The climbs are hands...
