Maglite torches come in a range of sizes and metallic colours and can be purchased in a number of outlets. Halfords, in particular, always seem to have a good stock. The one I have is the Mini Maglite AA which can easily be put in a handbag and I find is just the right size to hold comfortably. It uses 2 AA batteries which so far I haven?t needed to replace despite regular usage over a period of a few months. There are no prizes for guessing what the Mini Maglite AAA uses.
So what is there to get excited about? Well, firstly the light is the bright kind of light that you expect in a flashlight, not the yellow kind of light I associate with standard torches. Moreover, you can control whether to ?flood? an area with the light or close it down to an intense beam on a small spot just by twisting...
Advantages: Bright light, so reliable its a global name. Disadvantages: Candle mode can be risky with an exposed bulb, but you have a spare so its ok.
...the basic standard Maglite torch, whether big or small, but the dimensions are, w = 1.3 cm, l = 8.1 cm diameter = 1.2 cm. So its pretty small, and can be held almost like a fat biro. Like every Maglite, this is strong aluminium, with a painted coating, mine is the standard black, but you can get silver, blue, red and i think i have seen green too!
The main things you need to know about this is its basically a tube/barrel for the 1x AAA battery, with a bottom cap that screws in after the battery is inserted, and a top cap. The top cap is where you can twist it to turn on the torch. You can also change the focus of the torch by twisting the cap, going from a wide beam, to a rather impressive intense spot beam. The output isn?t spectacular, but considering its size it?s very impressive and score miles above other torches i have used.

...Ok so this isn't the first review of the Mini-Mag. I love them too, and now have two (car and sock drawer).
If you need to see how great the torch is, then read the rest of the reviews, this is a word of warning to fiddlers who love their Maglite - Don't clean the reflector.
I was bored one day and decided to dismantle the torch head. I cleaned the lens and the reflector with a soft cotton cloth. Later, I noticed that the beam wasn't as bright, so stupidly I repeated the procedure. I looked on in horror to see that the blue plastic was now revealed where there should have been a silver reflector ...
Needless to say, the torch isn't as bright as it was. I later picked up a second Maglite AA for £8 and I won't take the reflector out ever again....

All of the Maglite torches have a changeable focus beam, from spot to flood to freestanding-candle light, in seconds. A spare bulb is also kept in the tail cap, just in case it breaks at the worst moment, so you wont be left without light for long.
*My Experiences
Well, I myself own the Maglite Solitaire, 2 AAA Cell, 2 AA Cell and the 4 D Cell models. All of which in terms of battery time have lasted for hours with a strong beam and have taken various knocks and scrapes without causing fault.

...I have had this torch for some while now and a havn't had any probelems with it. It is still on its origional bulb which came with the torch. It comes with a spare bulb wich is hidden under the spring in the tail cap which i still havn't used. It takes 3xD cells which are the big round batteries. This torch is big and durable. It feels very well made and has a soft button to turn it on and off with. It has a good solid on/off feel so you know its been turned on and off. It has a grip which is embedded in the metal on the torch. Its great value for money as it has lasted me a while and on the same bulb which is good. The beam on it in the dark is very good. You can see far ahead of you when going for those late night strolls....

Advantages: Very compact, robust, reliable and surprisingly powerful for its size. Disadvantages: Expensive full price, but there are lots of reduced ones if you look.

...I have owned and still do own two Maglite torches. I have used Maglite torches for well over 10 years and have never had any problems whatsoever with them. Prior to me owning the 4 cell Maglite, I had owned the 6 cell, but due to the Energiser batteries leaking out (even though they were guaranteed not to) and ruining the 6 cell Maglite, although Energiser guaranteed to repair/replace any item that was ruined through using their batteries. Disappointingly though, Energiser sent me the 4 cell Maglite in place of the 6 cell (as they said the "6 cell was temporarily unavailable"?) and gave me some extra packs of the batteries to make up the cost.
The 4 cell and the 6 cell are identical in terms of battery life (approx 15 hours continuous use) but the 6 cell has a light output of 20000 candlepower and the 4 cell has 15000 candlepower, but...
