...This film got panned by a lot of critics on its general release, but I don't think it was all that bad. It can be a bit confusing, especially when Brad Pitt switches characters, but is worth persevering with. The film centres around Brad Pitt as Death, and his relationship with a rich industry magnate and his daughter. The daughter, played by Claire Forlani, meets the first Brad Pitt character in a deli, and takes an instant shine to him. He is consequently killed in a car accident, unbeknown to her. As Death, Pitt assumes the identity of the recently deceased, as he begins his new assignment: that of taking the father, played by Anthony Hopkins. Disappointing really

Advantages: Superb acting, some nice scenery
Disadvantages: Difficult to get into, Didn't feel any empathy with any of the characters

...It seems odd that a film with such stunning performances from both Matt Damon and Jude Law can fail to be anything other that brilliant... however The Talented Mr.Ripley does just that. The story follows Matt Damon whose ability at impersonations lead him to be hired by a rich shipping magnate to lure his son back to the US from the luxury life he has set up in Italy. The film follows Damon as he manages to ingratiate himself with Law and enjoy his fine life style... unfortuately things go wrong (as they always seem to) and Damon is forced to kill in order to protect the life style to which he has become accustomed. This raises the major problem of the film there is nobody to sympathise with... Damon is a psychopath albeit troubled by his homosexuality and obsessive longing for Law, Gwyneth Paltrow who is deserving of pity is...

Adam Sandler plays the titular character; he's 27 and the son of Bryan Madison (Darren McGavin), a very rich hotel magnate. So he has never worked a day in his life and doesn't know the true meaning of money as everything is just given to him. But Bryan is retiring, and is torn about whether to give it to Billy or to Eric Gordon (Bradley Whitford), a slimy co-worker at Madison Hotels. Oh how hard does this film suck. Please.

Advantages: good idea
Disadvantages: rubbish ending

...So what is my problem with this film. I'll tell you what my problem is. I spent over two hours watching a mildly entertaining film which turned into a schmaltzy, cinematic train wreck in the last ten minutes. I haven't seen a film so morally lost of compromised since In and Out. The Focus Group Demon has infested this film, and how. The premise is that Death takes a shine to the daughter of a wealthy publishing magnate who is about to die. He steals the body of (i.e. kills) someone that the daughter has taken a shine to in a coffee shop. Lets not worry about the poor, now deceased, sap. He then arrives at Daddy's house and cuts a deal so that he (Death) can have a vacation. Ok so far ? Bergman this isn't, lets make that clear.
