Disadvantages: Very, very, very, very expensive!

...Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa is located approximately 60 minutes drive from Dubai International Airport. Transfers can be organised with your tour operator, but will be in two stages. The first stage is a transfer from the airport down the highway and into the desert and onto the perimeter fence of the resort - this should take no more than 45-50 minutes. Once at the perimeter of the Al Maha estate, you will pass through security and await the arrival of the hotels jeeps, who will then transport you up to the main resort, which will usually take another 15 mins or so. Despite the transfer time, particualrly after a 7 1/2 hour flight from the UK, this was not uncomfortable or irritating like some transfers can be, so I hardly noticed the time. Disadvantages: Pricey even by the standard of other 7/6 star resorts

The story is set during and after British rule, when Jordan as we know it today was a part of the Mandate of Palestine known as the Emirate of Transjordan. The British stamped out any uprisings before they really had the chance to begin. There is a summary of the history of the time in question at the beginning of the book, which it is helpful to read before beginning. Two women, Maha and Um Saad, are forced to share a room in a mental institution in Jordan. Initially distrustful, they eventually become friends and share the stories of their lives. Maha is a Bedouin woman from way out in the country and knows little of the modern world. Yet she has known love. She married the man of her dreams and for a short time...

...Arabia are not just second-class citizens but are just a child-bearing vehicle and that they don?t have any opinions, are not intellectual and shouldn?t experience sexual pleasure of any kind. They are purely there to satisfy the needs of the Saudi men. I must tell you that the first book evoked many emotions in me, particularly anger towards the men of Saudi Arabia. I would strongly advise you to read ?Princess? first. Princess Sultana has three children; her eldest Abdullah (her only son), daughters Maha and Amani, and is married to Kareem, a handsome royal prince who, by Saudi Arabian standards seems to be a very nice caring husband, not at all like the sex-mad, vile male species that seem to inhabit this land (although later in this book it is revealed that many Egyptians are also like this). ...Having read Princess and Princess Sultana?s Daughters, I just had to finish the true life trilogy and buy Desert Royal by Jean Sasson. It can be quite confusing when purchasing this book because there is another title by Jean Sasson called Princess Sultana?s Circle which is, as I understand it, the American version of Desert Royal (or it could be vice versa!). So, Desert Royal continues the story of the life of Princess Sultana and her family ? her husband Kareem and her two daughters Maha and Amani. As with the first two books, the author recounts the lifestyle of the fabulously wealthy royal Saudis which is all due to the exploration of oil in Saudi Arabia. When I first read Princess I was genuinely sympathetic towards Sultana but, after reading the trilogy, I do believe that she is just another pampered princess looking...

Where the East meets the West

Advantages: Excellent weather, good shopping, fantastic restaurants and nightlife, excellent service,
Disadvantages: Can be really hot in summer months, in the souks woman tend to get stared at alot by locals, woman also should cover up in public areas such as souks, alcohol is a bit on the expensive side and can only be bought and drank inside 4* or above hotels

...go the the Burj Al Arab which stands on a small man made island opposiut the very famous Jumeirah Beach Hotel, it has to be seen to be believed. All the beach properties are of a very high standard and offer a complimentary bus service into the city centre throughout the day. If you wish to stay in the hub of Dubai then again you have a great choice of properties to choose from, recommendations of mine would be the Intercontinental and the JW Marriott both have a fantastic range of restaurants and are within walking distance of the city centre. One other property that I feel is worth a special mention is Al Maha, a spectacular desert resort only accesable by 4 wheel drive vehicle over the sand dunes of the desert, ideal for that secluded romantic break. Every view for every one.

Advantages: Easy going place, with lots of different views to see.
Disadvantages: Some strict areas.

I stayed at the Hotel Intercontinental which was nothing special but did have a nice atmospere and very friendly people. In this area you should also be able to visit the large camel farm, this is loads of fun and worth the visit. Dubai is the secound largest Emirate, I wont mention much on Dubai itself as I have written a seperate opinion on that but what I will mention is some of the places you can stay in land. one is Al Maha, this place is amazing amazing 25 rooms that look like tents from the outside but are 5 star hotel rooms inside, with a plunge pool which over looks the desert.
