Hilton, Maidstone - A Good Option

Advantages: Location, quality of staff
Disadvantages: Not close to town centre

...Reasons for choosing this hotel: We've stayed here before and the position is good for us when visiting friends and family, being just off the M20 Motorway at Junction 7, approximately 4 miles from Maidstone town centre. I could have used a cheaper hotel (there is an Innkeepers Lodge and a few Premier Travel Inns locally) but as a member of the Hilton loyalty scheme which allows you to "double dip" and not only earn Hilton points, but also points for your chosen Airline rewards programme at the same time, it is a good option for me, so I checked online on Boxing Day for a 1 night stay on 27th December. Booking: The Hilton website, whilst not the most exciting in the world, is easy to navigate - if you know which hotel you want to stay at , you can use the option on the left hand side of the home page or, if not, the locate...

A Maidstone miscellany - with answers

Advantages: A practical, pleasant and prosperous town
Disadvantages: But short on character and maybe even charm

...the West End or Broadway. The Hazlitt Theatre in the town centre is well-appointed and stages a varied programme of plays, panto, music, comedy turns and similar fare. Some shows are allocated to the adjacent Exchange, which makes up for the Hazlitt's relative sophistication with very basic decor and seats that are literally a pain in the backside. Unfortunately, it's also where The Maidstone Film Society holds its meetings and screenings. I have never experienced the Comedy Club on Union Street, but reports do not lead me to believe I've missed anything. A new purpose-built multiplex Odeon cinema has replaced the old town centre fleapit, which had much more character. However, the multiplex is technically superior, comfortable and shows all the latest releases, if not much else. Night life is provided by numerous restaurants...

Come to Sunny Maidstone

Advantages: Plenty to do
Disadvantages: No football stadium yet

...does), Strawberry Moons (Gabriels Hill) and Yates and Chicago Rock Café are nearby in the High Street. Lockmeadow also hosts a pub Old Orleans, restaurants Frankie and Bennies; Azzuro's and a large new Chinese restaurant; a bowling alley for the over 18's 'Hotshots' and an Odeon cinema with 8 screens. Films come to Maidstone as soon as the premier in London has shown first, and they are removed quickly to allow more newly released films to show so we never have to wait for them to come round to us. The difficulty is booking the tickets quickly enough to ensure you get to watch them before they move on. Daytime/Educational - yawn We have a Carriage Museum - you never knew that did you? A fourteenth century stable which houses a wonderful collection of carriages in mint condition including the Royal carriages, but the museum itself...

Diamond review  Harvester Restaurants

Advantages: Always one close by, quick turn out, children are welcome and catered for.
Disadvantages: Toilets can be quite disturbing, not all dishes taste as good they are described.

...Harvester Restaurants Restaurant Reviewed: Stag and Hounds Winchester Road Basingstoke Hampshire (next to Comet and Home Base) The Harvester chain of Restaurants have over 2000 outlets across the United Kingdom and owned and operated by Mitchells and Butlers, who claim to be the UK's leading operator of managed pubs, bars and restaurants. Harvester claim to offer healthy eating, drinking and entertainment in one reasonably priced outlet. **** Parking and Getting a Table ***** As with most of the Harvester's I have visited, there is usually ample free parking at the rear of the establishment. However on Saturday evenings and Sunday lunch times these places are heaving with customers, so avoid the crowds, go early and if possible ring and reserve a table. The Stag and Hounds is no exception but fortunately...

Maidstone called and they came

Advantages: Fun day out
Disadvantages: It has to end

...stay as long as she did as she had warned us that she would need to go home early for children. The White Rabbit was the next venue, which is apparently part of a chain (I learnt that from Richada and Adrianna) and is an informal restaurant where you order freshly cooked food from the bar. It is very inexpensive, but the reason Vince and I like it so much is that it always has a nice vegetarian selection. On arrival, I was amazed to see how busy it was. I have not really gone on a Saturday night before, usually preferring Maidstone on a weeknight. I could see two tables next to each other that would fit us all on, and asked the waitress if we could use them. She said she would see if there was another table where we would all fit on, but if not, yes, we could use them but would not be able to push them together due to fire risks...

Luncheon in Maidstone AKA Mexico

Advantages: Delish food, great lunch menu, good atmosphere
Disadvantages: a little cramped

...When I go to shopping with mum, we like to treat ourselves to a nice lunch and when we go to Maidstone, we just can’t resist going to Mexxa Mexxa every single time. I went last week with ma and yesterday with my boyfriend. This review is mainly about lunches at Mexxa Mexxa as I have never been to the restaurant in the evening. Mexxa Mexxa is a Mexican (quelle surprise) restaurant in Earl Street, Maidstone, just around the back of the new Fremlin Walk shopping development. It is a bright building, you can’t miss it, decorated outside in blue and orange- a couple of doors down from Pizza Express and opposite Nando’s. The inside is decorated with dark wood, tiled floors and skinny waitresses. All of the seating is downstairs and the waiting staff bring the food down from the kitchen upstairs, so perhaps the constant...

Maidstone Review

Advantages: Great Clubs/Pubs/Bars/Restaurants/Shops
Disadvantages: A slight attitude problem with local youths.

...I have lived in the Maidstone area all my life and have had various experiences in the 22 years i've been here. SHOPPING:- Maidstone town centre has many many shops to cater for everyones needs. Sport shops, music shops, card shops you've got your Argos and also fair share of fast food restaurants. With the newly built Fremlin Walk area of the town now completed it improves the shopping even further in Maidstone. House of Fraser being my personal favourite. The Chequers Centre or The Mall as it's now called is like a mini Bluewater which again houses all your well known shops and fast food restaurants so all you shopping lovers will be in your element in Maidstone. Motor World, Matalan and B&Q are also within the town. Saturday afternoons in particlar are extremely busy so expect traffic on the roads and the streets. NIGHT...

Live Music and Fine Food (at a chain restaurant!)

Advantages: Affordable, Clean, Good Music, Nice Food, Great Location
Disadvantages: Sometimes a longer wait for food

...Despite the fact that Pizza Express is a chain of restaurants I always feel like I have a different dining experience in each restaurant I visit. I have visited Pizza Expresses all over the UK including chains in Maidstone, Gatwick Airport, London and Cardiff. I am writing this review about Pizza Express Maidstone because this is the local Pizza Express restaurant to me and is the one I have been the most impressed with. If ever we decide to go out for a meal, either with my family or with my partner, we nearly always decide to go here because it's always such a good experience. ~~Location~~ The location of a Pizza Express can vary in importance. In Cardiff the location is ideal because its right next to the bay and overlooks the water with large windows all along the front of the restaurant. In Maidstone, however...

Maidstone-The County Town of Kent

Advantages: Good location. Prosperous. Fairly clean
Disadvantages: Lacks night life, a bit expensive.

...Maidstone,one of the larger towns in Kent,is actually the County Town. Somehow it seems to be less well known than several other places in the county such as Dover, Canterbury or Gillingham. It is essentially a prosperous place and is only around 40 miles from London. The shopping scene in the county town is a good one and most of the well known multiples are represented here, and there are a number of good specialist shops. There are several high quality hotels in the town or on the outskirts as well as guest houses and bed and breakfast establishments. There are some very good eateries in Maidstone, including ethnic restaurants, and where I would give it very high marks are for its pubs both those in the town centre and at outlying spots such as Bearsted, Allington Lock and Harrietsham. It really does have some gems. Maidstone is not...

Ze Restaurant!

Advantages: Good show, interesting
Disadvantages: Slightly worse than last year`s

...The Restaurant is a TV programme shown on BBC 2 on Thursday nights! The show is a reality TV show and is similar to something like the Apprentice but a food version. This show is obviously based on the concept and success of many other TV shows like the Apprentice, food shows like Masterchef and all the other shows like Dragon`s Den, X Factor e.t.c The idea of the show is for world famous chef Raymond Blanc to find a couple to help him run a restaurant and the couples are gradually knocked out week by week until they have the winning couple. It is in its third season and seems to have got a bit worse. I still enjoy it but felt it used to be more exciting and interesting. There used to be two shows with one of them being a challenge but they seem to have got rid of this which is a shame! Raymond has help from his two assistants e...
