...I?ve been a bit quite on my reviews lately, a mixture of being busy at work, and having taken a week?s holiday in the sun! I usually like to holiday at a different destination every year as I find it just too exciting packing my bags and imaging what it might actually be like at my chosen destination, rather than the glossy pictures displayed in the brochure. But this year I backed down and agreed to go to the same place as last year, out of season, to help my friend find a job and a place to live so she could work out there for 4 months. Manic Malia

Advantages: Hot, Great nightlife, Lots to do.
Disadvantages: Scary Greek men, quite expensive in some places.

...Whether you have noticed or not, I have been away from Ciao for 2 weeks, and I’ve been on holiday. It was a bit of a last minute thing. I’ve just split up with my long term boyfriend and I needed to escape for a while, so we booked a fortnight of fun in the sun in Malia. I wasn’t particularly looking forward to it when I went, but I enjoyed it so much! ~*~IN GENERAL~*~ Crete is approximately 100 miles away from the mainland of Greece. Create is about 150 miles across and 50 miles wide, and is the largest Greek island. The Euro is now used in Greece instead of the Drachma, and therefore prices have increased quite dramatically. ...Well I finally have enough time to write a review on Malia, a small island in Crete, Greece. I visited Malia this summer with my friends and found it to be one of the most exciting yet laid back cities in Europe. I hope to share my experiences of Malia to the Ciao community. Malia

Advantages: hot, party atmosphere, something for everyone,
Disadvantages: its too hot, most places are not air conditioned, all the clubs are meat markets

...Malia I just came back from my weeks holiday in Malia last night so I thought I’d do an opinion before I jet off to Berlin tomorrow afternoon. :0P Malia is an all round party resort that has been compared to Ibiza and Ayia Napa. Not having been to either of these places, I can’t comment on this save for to say that the nightlife certainly was manic. I went for a ‘girly’ holiday with 3 of my best mates to treat ourselves after we finished out A-levels. Is Malia really the in place

Advantages: Great weather and soon got fit
Disadvantages: No working safe deposit boxes, poor hygiene in the apartments and the area is quite expensive for food, drink and activities

...Malia, stated as being the in place for 2001 is situated on the North East side of the island of Crete. I only choose Greece again due to the great time I had in Kos last year, but as I was going with a group of people, I let them deal with the booking this time round. They went down to the Traveltext place in Nottingham and booked through Summer Sun and were flying with Carrier Air 2000 (non of wich I have ever heard of). Summer Sun were not the best of operators but I shall write another article on that over the comming weeks, but I felt better when I found out who Carrier Air were owned by. They are a subsidary of First Choice Holidays. I went away with three others on the 10th of July for a two week holiday to the Demaglia Studios so I had the hot weather due to being in high season. ...I recently returned from a week long holiday with a friend, to the resort of Malia. Being an experienced visitor to many of the typical "clubbing/party" resorts, (i.e Faliraki, Playa de las Americas, Ayia Napa etc), I can confirm that Malia offers an incredibly good array of pubs, bars, discos and clubs. The set out of the town enables you to steadily work your way around the bars, drinking cocktails, fish bowls, and shots of tequila and after shock on the way. The variety of restaurants is also good, my personal recommendation being the mexican offering great tasting fajitas and enchilladas! I would steer clear of the several chinese restaurants however, as everybody I know who ate there had the same comment, "very greasy food." My only real disappointment with this resort would be the beach. Its watersports facilities are good...

Advantages: Drinking from 10pm til 7am :p
Disadvantages: Not much to do during the day

...Malia! WOW! Just came back from a holiday in Malia Crete, 8 of us guys went for 2 weeks (which is to long btw) and had an awesome time :D If your after ANYTHING from a holiday other than sun, sex and nightlife then simply dont go to Malia lol... thats ALL there is to do there- but like us 8 lads that was all we wanted! The place itself is unusual the town only lives for the night and that doesnt start out there til 12 midnight- during the day you will find yourself at the beach or by the pool and there is simply nothing else to do- we were there for 2weeks and we went water park twice and a Cruise other than that ever day was the same! Food is great out there, hotel food is horrible but if you eat out a meal and a drink is only about 10euros, and at brekie you can get a 2.90euros from almost everywhere! During the day...

Crete overall

Advantages: Sightseeing, markets, weather, amenities, culture, friendly people, nightlife, food.
Disadvantages: Euro rate. Some places shut due to economy. Drivers.

...Welcome to Crete. Do you want to come for a relaxing holiday or to go crazy clubbing all night. You can do both on this island, but if you dont want drunken teenagers at all hours disturbing you do not go to Malia or some other areas where Club 18-30 or equivalent teenage holidays operate. Check with your tour operator first before your book. Also, if you have walking problems or small children, check that the hotels are not stuck up a hill as some in Hersonissos area are and pulling a pram up steps in heat is not much fun. Crete has a wide range of things to do and see. The beautiful scenic area of Elounda and Chania is for a quieter holiday. You can also visit Santorini on a day trip but beware that the boat can be a bit choppy sometimes and delayed. There is also the 'leper' island of Spinalonga, which is interesting...

...Introduction ~~ Having just got back from Crete I thought I perhaps should write an opinion on the Greek island that has something for everyone. Out of the 1,400 odd Greek islands Crete is the largest and the most popular place in Greece for tourists. And having now been there twice I can see why its so popular with English tourists? Places to stay ~~ The main towns of Crete are on the North of the island and all of the main towns are on the coast and most hotels are in the towns or a few miles outside of them. I stayed very near Rethymno in the Rithyma Beach hotel which was part of the Grecotel chain. Though I won't go into detail about the hotel I'll stick to category - Crete in general! Parallel Crete

Advantages: scenic and beautiful especially in spring and late summer
Disadvantages: Millions of other tourists if you go to the wrong place
