University of Manchester

Advantages: Great city, excellent university, lots of accommodation in halls and private sector. Cheap public transport.
Disadvantages: French dept not great, rains a lot, eating on campus is expensive & there aren't enough eateries.

...place to live really than Whitworth Park and Victoria Park because of all these amenities, even though it is a bit further from uni. Buses are really cheap - £2 a week to go from the city, past the uni, through Fallowfield, through Didsbury (bars, trendy boutiques, restaurants) and down to Parrs Wood entertainment complex (restaurants, cinema, bowling, lazerquest). This is also the busiest bus route in Europe meaning you don't ever have to wait more than 2 mins for a bus, if you even have to wait at all!! The city is really based around students and there student nights every night of the week with special offers. Fifth Ave is a v popular venue with drinks for 80p each on some nights! Shopping in Manchester is brilliant and there really is something for everyone - trendy boutiques, big department stores and little indie shops...

The University of Manchester is Brilliant

Advantages: Good reputation, great location
Disadvantages: none that I have come across

...I am coming to the end of my first year at The University of Manchester (just those dreaded end of year exams to go) and now agree with the saying "University is the best time of your life". This uni is well established with an excellent reputation and is located near the city centre, for lots of shopping, drinking and clubbing. To say I was nervous about going to uni would be an understatement - I was terrified! This soon went, however, as I was made to feel welcome by my department, and students in my position. There are lots of excellent study services, the primary one being the University library. It offers brilliant services (more books than I ever thought I could see, study rooms, desks, computers) and lots of support from the staff. The student union is a great place to go inbetween lectures when you just don't feel...

Manchester uni rocks!

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...Manchester university is an excellent place to study for many reasons. It's right in the middle of a large city so there are always lots of things going on and you're never short of something to do.There's a wide variety of entertainment and sports for everyone. The uni itself is placed right in the centre of manchester, therefore allowing easy access to all these facilities. The courses at the uni are also of good quality. Most have been rated highly by independent judges. The music course, which I chose was one of the best in the country (among others such as Liverpool and Birmingham)and I would fully recommend this to anyone thinking of taking this subject as a degree....

Review of Manchester Uni

Advantages: Everything. And lots of it.
Disadvantages: Too little time to do everything

...Manchester is a fantastic place to go and study. The courses and facilities that the University has to offer are second to none, so its hardly surprising that competition for places is high. The university has one of the biggest libraries in the land and a mass of courses from which to choose. The city offers more shops, pubs, clubs and whatever else you can think of, than you can handle. Manchester is such a cosmopolitan place that there really is something here for everyone. The university also has reportedly the highest number of societies in the UK - and if you can't find one that you like, well why not form one?! Accomodation is plentiful in the way of halls, flats, and student houses. But don't leave it until the last minute or all the best places will be fully booked! Bus routes into the university and city are...

Excellent Uni, great city

Advantages: Good union, lots of resources
Disadvantages: Weather

...I can thoroughly recommend Manchester as a great place to be, both for the University and the city itself. One great advantage Manchester has for students is that there are around 40,000 students studying at the three main Universities in the city. This ensures that there is a wide range of services, shops and pubs to cater for students needs. For the obvious such as student bars and clubs offering cheap entrance and drinks, there are other, more subtle advantages. I was a student at Manchester University but if you are a member of the Students Unio you can go to any of the other unions in the area. Manchester Met union is 5 mins walk away and they have some great bars in there!!! There are a wide range of bookshops to cater for everyones needs and the library is one of the biggest in the country. The city itself is greatm...

Excellent University with a proper student life

Advantages: Really friendly city, awesome nightlife, incredibly cheap, city/uni close together, 80,000 students!
Disadvantages: Not clean city, some departmental buildings really grimey, hectic lifestyle

...lot of fun. The local Mancunians are really friendly. Being brought up in London, I didn't realise how unfriendly London was. The people up North are so much nicer. You see people just smiling and you can randomly chat to anyone on the bus without getting a dirty blank look. The Uni has a very good location. It is fairly close to the City Centre and is situation on Oxford Road (this is the most served bus route in the whole of Europe). You will need a bus pass in this town, but they are ridiculously cheap because of so many competing bus companies. For example a 7-day pass, to use even after you come out hammered from a club at 3am, will only cost you about £3.00. Bargain!! The University offers its own fairly good accommodation in several halls of residence. If you are going to Manchester for your first year, there is only one...

Great University

Advantages: Modern Facilities, Student Union is good, Lots of courses, it's in Manchester
Disadvantages: Disadvantages:* Some buildings need updating, the weather can be bad

...the Student Support department can work with you to help you with your requirements so that you can study at the University easily. Library The University has a main library which has 4 floors (3 for books and other learning materials and a computer drop in on the 4th floor) there are also other libraries which I'm sure you would get directions to if you ask. Things to do in Manchester Well there are a large range of shops in the City Centre and the Arndale Centre has been re-developed and now includes a greater number of stores along with a new food court. There are museums and art galleries, these include The Imperial War Museum, Urbis and The Lowry. The Lowry also houses theatres and next to it there is a shopping centre. These places are free to visit and are very exciting and interesting. There's plenty of pubs, clubs...

Super hotel in the heart of Manchester

Advantages: Location, staff, nice rooms
Disadvantages: Expensive

...I have had the pleasure of staying here on business on several occasions. My mother?s family come from Manchester so I always really enjoy visiting Manchester. About the hotel: The Arora Manchester is a four star hotel with over 140 bedrooms. It?s part owned by Cliff Richard and there are even five special Cliff bedrooms decorated with his memorabilia if you like that kind of thing! The location on Princess Street is also excellent as you are in the city centre and only 10 minutes walk from Piccadilly station if you arrive by train. It?s also about a 20-minute journey from the airport, which is also very convenient. The hotel doesn?t have it?s own car park but apparently guests can use the nearby NCP to park at a discounted rate. First Impressions: It?s an old fashioned looking building but it also looks quite grand. It is also...

Ruling in Manchester now too?

Advantages: reasonable price if booked in advance
Disadvantages: none really

...As with my previous recent reviews this forms a part of my need to get a life ethos, and even though I live a short distance from Manchester on a planned night out on the town I decided it was better worth my time staying over than drunkely seeking the nightbus home. So armed with my trusty cashback paying link to a hotelbooking site I found this one for the night. I paid £50 for a doubleroom with no food included, the hotels standard rate is around £66 so a considerable saving especially given I only booked a few days before I wanted to stay. The hotel itself is seconds from Picadilly Gardens which is the location of a large bus station and a tram stop which runs between the two main train stations, it is also a few minutes walk from the main Bus Station in the city where the National Express coaches stop. The hotel has...

Choose Manchester because.......

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...Right, you are looking to choose a university but not sure which? Well, Manchester HAS to be on your short list - you simply can not make up a balanced decision without considering this university and I implore you to go and take a look at it. OK, you may think there are better ones? - but what criteria are you setting? Your parents may want you to go to some posh dump - but Manchester buzzes! Few cities offer you the excitement that Manchester can provide seven days and nights a week! Of course the university and course content matters - but my argument is that university is less about academia, and more about growing as a person (hence why many employers are less worried by the degree subject, and more by the person's experience and ability etc!). Well, as a base away from your parents that will allow you to explore your newly found...
