Gorgeous Lake Garda
Advantages: Stunning scenery, glorious climate......... an almost perfect holiday
Disadvantages: Rather touristy in places
...I've long harboured a desire to visit Italy, and my dream finally came true this summer when we (my husband, 14 year old son and I) decided to spend our summer holiday in Limone on Lake Garda.
Lake Garda, Italy's largest lake, is in northern Italy, not far from the city of Verona. It is divided between three Italian regions - Lombardy, Trentino and the Veneto. Due to its stunning natural beauty and warm climate, the area is a major tourist destination, with many towns and villages scattered around its shore.
Limone, or Limone sul Garda, situated on Lake Garda's north-western shore, is centred around a village of narrow, winding streets, alleys and traditional stonewalled cottages. Although the name "Limone" is often presumed to be taken from the lemon groves which surround it, apparently the name is in fact derived from an old...

A place in the sun - Torri de Benaco, Lake Garda
Advantages: tranquil and picturesque.
Disadvantages: Erratic bus service
...Torri de Beneco
We booked this as the second resort in a dual centre holiday from Inghams Lakes and Mountains. Wading through the brochures there are many resorts around Lake Garda and very little information to help one choose between them so we were a little unsure what to expect when we arrived in Torri de Benaco on a brilliant hot sunny afternoon in July 2006.
We were immediately impressed as we wandered around the cobbled streets and strolled on the promenade of this pretty harbour town. After the hustle and bustle of Venice the tranquillity was welcome, I was on holiday, it was time to unwind.
Situation
Torri de Benaco is situated half way along the Eastern shores of Lake Garda. Like all the resorts around Garda it is reached by the main road that runs North / South along the lake. From the road there is little to see...

lake garda
Advantages: beautiful scenery, nice ice cream
Disadvantages: pricey
...I visted Lake Garda a couple of summers ago and must say it was one of the most people places I have ever visited. Lots of people do seem to complain about it being overly touristy but with scenery like this I can certainly see why. Although it is an extremely popular holiday destination and there are a few touristy gift shops about I still would not say that Lake Garda was too touristy.
When I visited I stayed in the largest resort of Riva del Garda a wonderful little town at the north of the lake. Lake Garda has plenty to do with lots of little cafes and restaurants. It is also in walking distance of the next resort.
Riva was a beautiful town with a pictureque square which was home to many forms of entertainment in the evening. Towards the end of the summer months the town is also home to a themed festival which was based upon...

Lake Garda - Garda
Advantages: ice cream, location as it is close to many other places
Disadvantages: can get pretty expensive
...If you want somewhere to go in Italy that has it all, then lake Garda is the place and best of all is the largest of the towns around the edge; Garda itself.
This quaint little village is perfect for people of all ages to get away to.
The village front is set onto the lake and is lined with little restaurants and cafes. there is seating outside opposite all these places so the spectacular views can be absorbed, of which there are many. from the promanade the opposite side of the lake is clear to see, as is the so called "crocodile" a small penisular with a great resembilance to a sleeping crocodile. it was apparently near here that churchill wrote some of his memroires.
Throughout Garda there are many wonderful litle places you feel inclined to stop and look at. As you would expect of Italy the ice cream is delicious and usually...

Garda Town - Great place
Advantages: Garda Town - great location for expliring other areas
Disadvantages: Bus between towns - never on time.
...Garda is an old town situated on the lake, it has a boat service and a bus service to most of the other towns and villiages on the lake.. The boat service is very reliable and mostly on time, the buses are always late (and I mean late -sometimes upto and hour. On the lake there are opportunities to swim, water-ski, para-sail (being toed behind an speed boat.) and there are lots of places to sunbathe.
The town is very picturesque with plenty of opportunties for photographs. It has all the shops you will ever need with some designer ones thrown in.
There are a vast number of restaurants which all sell pasta and ice-cream. A must in the midddle of the morning or afternoon is an iced-coffee or an iced-chocolate or for the really adventerous a hugh ice-cream. All of these are as you would expect are very refreshing, and only...

Hotel Europa Limone, Lake Garda
Advantages: Plenty of trips and sites to see !
Disadvantages: None
...at the europa was very comfortable and value for money.
The next day we had a meeting with our travel rep but we had to walk to a different hotel for this meeting, it was right on the lake front, which look really far on the map but it only tuck us 10 Minutes. the meeting with the rep was about verious trips such as Venice, Verona, Lake Tour etc. We booked most of them not realising when we walk back to the hotel there was a excursion office in the town that offer trips to water parks and theme parks, but we where still looking forward to our romantic trips to Venice and Verona. Do shop around before you booked trips the prices are roughly the same but you can find some more interesting trips to go on.
We had a trip that afternoon guide by our rep it was a cliff hanger lunch which showed us several hamlets that couldn't be seen unless to went...

Fantastic hotel in Lake Garda, reasonable price and great staff
Advantages: Friendly staff, clean rooms, good facilities
Disadvantages: A little too far from town if walking, pool covered
....
The room had a large bed, large balcony and there was a safe and fridge in the wardrobe. The bathroom was modern and all was very clean.
The staff were extremely friendly, and the people who manned the desk all spoke good English and were able to advise us on local places to go.
Locally there were a couple of wonderful restaurants serving fantastic food for reasonable prices, only a five minute walk from the hotel.
However, the hotel is situated slightly out of the town of Desenzano. This was not too much of an issue for us as we had a car and were not there in high season so could park easily in the town, but would be a 20 min brisk walk without.
On the plus side, Lake Garda was only across the road from the hotel and if you prefer peace and quiet the hotel certainly offers that.
In summary I would stay here again if visiting Desenzano...

Lake Garda
Advantages: beautiful scenery
Disadvantages: can be expensive
...We flew to Verona and jumped in a taxi to Lake Garda(30mins drive, cost about £40). We stayed in the Hotel Continental in Sirmione. Sirmione is a beautiful old town which you have to enter through the castle. There is a few shops and restaurants and lots of snack bars selling pizza and icecream. The old part of town is mainly pedestrianised. From the dock you can get a boat to just about anywhere around the lake. The boats are fairly cheap and very efficient. The scenery around the lake varies tremendously. In the south, it is very green and flat and the north of the lake is surrounded by mountains. Riva in the north is spectacular. There are many pretty villages around the lake, all worth a visit for a couple of hours or a spot of lunch. There is also a couple of theme parks and a cable...

A very classy lake..
Advantages: beautiful.beautiful.beautiful.
Disadvantages: none.
...the feel of what Lake Garda is about and to enjoy it.
There are many towns around the lake which are all beautiful and definitely worth a visit. The best known of these are Garda, Riva del Garda, Malcesine, Limone and Sirmione. Each town has its own perspective and view of the lake and each has its own character. There are many different things to visit in each town so it is worth visiting as many as you can. Limone and Sirmione are more historic and have some beautiful architecture. The other towns are a little more modern with newer buildings and sights, for example; the cable car in Malcesine which takes you up the mountain side to give a stunning view of the whole lake.
**Getting There**
The obvious way of getting to Lake Garda is by air and there are plenty of airports near to it. Depending on the type of holiday you go on, be...
