Christmas at Thomas Land in Drayton Manor

...Please Note: This review is based solely on Drayton Manor's Magical Christmas at Thomas Land and not on the full park, as this was the only section open at the time, unlike the summer when the whole park is open. After watching a TV advert for Drayton Manor's Magical Christmas we decided that our daughter Holly nearly 4 would love the day out and as the price would shoot up after 20th December when Holly would be 4 we decided to go that weekend. The Magical Christmas is geared up for children under the age of 9 and is based mainly in Thomas Land. The park opens at 12 pm and closes at 6pm weekends and 5pm weekdays with the car park open from 11.30. The site is easy to find using satnav, unless you have our one which sent us down the wrong way of a one way unmade road to the back entrance! It is situated just off the A4091 off the A38...

Tankersley Manor Hotel

...Tankersley Manor is a place that I have been to a few times over the years and it was also the location of my work's Christmas Party at the end of last year. It is a well known Hotel and Restaurant with a good local reputation. THE BACKGROUND From the outside Tankersley Manor is quite impressive to say the least, standing in its own well maintained Gardens and Grounds and surrounded by Woodland the building itself is a rather imposing Stone built building. The Hotel as you see it today has been extensively restored but it has been built around a 17th Century Manor House that once occupied the location. A wooden farm.

...I have played with this farm (alongside a child) at a play centre and would like to tell you about it. . This farm is a wooden farm it comes with a thin wooden plywood base that is painted green to represent grass and has a blue area to represent water painted on in one of the corners. A few flowers are also painted on the green board as well as a path of stepping stones. . There are some farm buildings. The buildings are natural wood coloured with red roofs. There is a dog kennel, a windmill the sails do rotate. An open fronted wooden building with a few shelves this is stabling for the horses or shelter for the cows the chickens can roost on the shelves. Having lived in Coventry which is in the West Midlands I am familiar with Stratford Upon Avon and how beautiful it is. The scenery there is lush and it is definitely Shakespeare Countryside. ...I fancied going away for the weekend but didn't want to go far or spend a fortune, I didn't even want to spend £100 a night for a basic hotel so I searched for guest houses in the lake district as we don't live far from there and the countryside is lovely. ...The school holidays are always a bit of a bugger. Where can you take children aged fourteen, eleven, nine and four and guarantee that they will all enjoy it? After much pondering and googling we decided that Drayton Manor was the only theme park within striking distance that seemed to have something for everyone. Not that one hour and fifty minutes is particularly within striking distance. It is one hell of a dull journey from Liverpool along the M6 and it came as a bit of a shock when we got to the M6 toll; Four quid each way the robbing buggers! Nonetheless, several pee and tea breaks later we arrived at Drayton Manor and the site really is quite expansive. Smack bang in the middle of Tamworth it is a huge park. Unfortunately, it is not particularly well set out on entry and the one lane queuing to park the car adds an extra ten...

...I have stayed at Aldwark Manor twice and on both occasions had a fantastic experience. The first time I stayed here was a surprise trip that Mr Lools booked for our 5 year anniversary. Because we had such a wonderful time we returned six months later for a weekend break and our second visit was just as good as our first. ***Location*** Aldwark Manor is located in Aldwark in North Yorkshire. The hotel is set in tranquil secluding grounds and has its own 18 hole Golf Course. The hotel is 13 miles away from York City Centre which takes around 30 minutes to drive, either by car or taxi. The nearest railway station is York City Centre The hotel is easy accessible by car and is a 10 minute drive once you have left junction 47 on the A1m. Please note that there is a toll bridge on the approach to the hotel with a 40p charge...
