Mapex Orion Classic Drumkit
Advantages: Superb Quality & Build
Disadvantages: Quite expensive and not for beginners!
...FIRST - My theory! - If you buy a quality starter kit it should realistically last you until either you get to the stage where you are touring the country or if you are really lucky - getting signed!
After playing drums in a band for so long you see different musicians come and go and you are always thinking to yourself that you would love to have their equipment. I started out with a reasonably cheap kit for about £300 and thrashed it to death before deciding it was time to move on. I decided that there would be no point to buy a kit that was anything better than excellent as this would mean that I would then be after something again in the not so distant future.
I decided to go and look for kits and went to the local music store to have a browse and a quick bash. Loads of kits were set up to view and play however the Mapex...

Mapex Mars - My lovely red drum kit
Advantages: Excellent Value - Great sounding Kit
Disadvantages: Hardware is a little flimsy
...I bought a Mapex Mars kit some time ago now, and I can honestly say I'm very pleased that I did.
I bought the kit about 10 years ago, when Mapex was a virtually unknown manufacturer of kits, which meant that I bought the kit for a bargain £500. Shortly afterwards, Matt Sorum, of then Guns & Roses fame began to endorse the Mapex Saturn kit and prices went up somewhat.
The kit is a standard rock five piece - 22" Bass, 14" snare and three tom-toms - 12",13" & 16". Also included were a hi-hat stand, snare stand, bass pedal, a straight cymbal stand and a boom cymbal stand.
When I bought mine, it was only available in one colour - bright red, but I'm lead to believe they can now be bought in a variety of colours.
All of the hardware connects externally to the drums, which means no loss of sound quality due to the intrusion of a big piece...

best for bashing
Advantages: one of the most amazing sounding kits you will play.
Disadvantages: can be pricey and the sounds created many not suit your style of drumming.
...The mapex pro-m drum kit is an amazing kit for I would say the intermediate to the professional drum players out there. Mapex is one of the leading drum brands and their pro-m maple shell collection is in my opinion one of the best type of drums you can get. Starting around £850 for what what you get it is worth it. Anyone who purchases one of these excellent peices of sound mastery and pure qaulity will be thourughly happy with the outcome. Each drum is already built with remo heads. Its best to buy it from a mapex dealer because you get the best warranty deals and a much broader choice of colours and perfect slection. My oppinion.....one of the best kits in the market and one of the best if you want to get a step ahead from the begginer and intermediate part of the drum market....

V-Series
Advantages: Great sound, very nice looking
Disadvantages: Can be a little too quiet for recording or live gig purposes.
...I've had my Mapex V Series drumkit for abou three years now and I'm still very happy with it! I heard the actual kit is designed to be more of a fusion kit that can't really be relied on for playing live gigs but I've played many a gig with it and it's one of my favourite kits to use.
Appearance
-----------------
The Mapex Venus drumkit comes in a wide range of colours. Mine is Midnight Blue, which suits the drumkit very well. It's a very shiny looking kit and when it's new you can see the lighting in the room shimmer all over the body.
One downfall however, is that the body doesn't really come painted, it's more of a sort of undercoat, which means yes it's scratched far more easily.
It is easy to look after though. The kit doesn't come with any bags, but I bought some Big Dog bags for the drums and they won't get scratched in...

...This Drum kit is amazing. If your a beginer or even really good this drum kit will suit you this kit is awsome if your looking for a reasonibly priced drum kit this is for you. I bought this kit about 2 years ago ive only made 3 adjustments like putting remo pinstripe skins on it and buying anew cymbal pack and buyong a mapex double bass pedal but thats what ive done this is a great kit and i would recomend this product to nearly anyone.
The most affordable all-birch Yamaha drumset ever! An incredible value, the legendary tone of an all-birch Yamaha drumset is now available in the Stage Custom series. The low fundamental and warm tone of Yamaha's birch drums have been the top choice of drummers for over 30 years. The Stage Custom Birch series is great for the beginner or the working professional. The staggered diagonal seam allows us to...

Brirtax First Class SI
Advantages: Easy strapping in (the kids), and easy fitment (to the car)
Disadvantages: Quick release button won't be a quick escape
...the buckle having a quick release button, it seems neccessary to release the 'length' on the harness straps prior to releasing the Q/R buckle, or the child will still be restrained by the 2 seperated shoulder strap loops, and will not be easily removed from the vehicle. In everyday use, the straps must be lengthened before rleasing the child . In an emergency, this could be an issue, pressing the red button may not easily release the child. A strap cutter may be a worthwhile investment....

What did you say?
Advantages: Softens the wax. Does get rid of some of it.
Disadvantages: Doesn't clear the ear completely.
...ear that it only takes brute force to remove it! Not that I'm complaining. In fact, I rather enjoy the whole experience. Just the thought of going to see the Nurse for a ear wash excites me! The warm water gushing down my earhole and such a speed does tickle. So I will be making a early next week to get it done. In the meantime, I shall continue to put the drops in my ear to soften the wax.
If you don't want to spend £4.39 on eardrops, you could use olive oil.

Better in the air than on the ground
Advantages: Good and friendly service
Disadvantages: Doha Airport
...We joined Qatar Airways flight QR079 from Gatwick Airport to Bangkok via Doha in March 2006. The plane, a quite new (by the look of it) Airbus A330/200 was light and clean, and the crew smiling and friendly.
The first leg of the journey, to Doha was 6 hours and passed surprisingly easy. Drinks were served immediately after take-off, followed by lunch, with a choice of 4 main meals. Very tasty.
4 hours into the flight a light snack of a Mexican wrap with chicken, a muffin and coffee was served.
The on demand entertainment system was quite comprehensive, with a choice of dozens of films, TV shows, music and games, but the quality of the small screen was not impressive, and the sound not quite synchronized to the movie.
The second leg of the journey, also 6 hours, on QR612 from Doha to Bangkok was less successful however. As we arrived...

Qatar Airways....brilliant!
Advantages: Cheap, Safe, Excellent Service, V Polite staff
Disadvantages: Doha Airport
...Wow!! I flew to Bangkok via Doha in May (QR42 & QR612) and it was the first time i'd flown with a proper long haul airline in a long time, to say i was very impressed would be an understatement.
The flight was part of a package type deal to spend 3 nights in Bangkok and 11 nights in Cha-am. The whole holiday only cost £520...so the flight part of that must have been substantially less. Saying that for the service we received on the plane, I would have paid £520 just for that!
Firstly the check-in experience at Manchester was seemless. We were greeted by a man in a Qatar Airways suit who crossed us off his list on his clipboard, helped us get are luggage into the queueing system (there was no queue to speak of though). We stood there a couple of mins then checked straight in, all the way through to Bangkok. Our luggage was being...
