Not a bad effort, but rather superseeded nowadays
Review of Marantz CD-6000OSE by
AlecHodgson
Advantages: price, general sound quality, build
Disadvantages: Remote, looks, problems with CDrs
...I purchased my Marantz CD6000ose at Richer sounds for the bargain price of just £150 - half the new price, and have owned it for about 2 years.
When new, the player was certainally the top player in its class. Generally described as smooth (in the traditional marantz style) but with the ability to reproduce voices and dance beats effectivly. This is certainally an appraisal that I agree with.
However, having moved my other componets a little up the hifi rung, i have noticed that in comparism with other £300ish players (from rotel and NAD) that I have listened to, the Marantz is missing something. Now this may sound a little vague - but it is how it is. It lacks sparkle - what grabs you and makes you think 'what a wonderful voice' or 'what a great track' and so on. The Rotel in particular attacks, where the Marantz sounds woolly...

A great sounding amp at a budget price
Review of Marantz PM 66 SE by
AlecHodgson
Advantages: A1 sound for the money, good price, great build, good looks
Disadvantages: Very little - perhaps underpowered a tad
...Introduction.................................
I owned a Marantz PM66se until fairly recently, upgrading to a much more powerful NAD c370. Whilst the NAD is obviously more powerful, it lacks some of the subtly and musicality of the Marantz amp. The Marantz has all the features most people will ever need, and you can now pick one up for a bargain price. IT even looks good (in my opinion - although I am a fan of the 'Marantz look').
Features.......................................
The following features are of note:
- It has a phono input for a record player
- There are 3 line sources and a further 2 tape loops (you can use these as line inputs anyway)
- The amp puts out a claimed 50 watts per channel RMS
- There is a 'source direct' button to bypass the balance and tape monitor controls
- The amp comes with a comprehensive remote which...

Marantz PM66-SE
Review of Marantz PM 66 SE by
RuneArnesen
Advantages: Features, durability, looks and abilities as a Dolby 2.0 Receiver
Disadvantages: Poor control over demanding music, weak midrange and a general lack of muscles.
...This is an ok amp. Nothing more, nothing less. It plays neutral with a coloring a bit towards the warm side (typical Marantz). It is has all the features needed for an amp today (Thumbs up for the 'Source Direct' switch!), looks good and is easy to use.
The problem with this amp is, unfortunately, it's ability to present music. Even though it has no "screaming" weaknesses, it has no apparent strengths neither. It becomes a bit boring too me. Midrange is the weakest side of this amp. When given songs where theres a lot going on in the midrange (Soilwork - Follow The Hollow, Pink FLoyd - The Dark Side of The Moon), it gets messy. It also lacks the open "top" to give Tool - Vicarious or Dire Straits -The Man's Too Strong the snappy sound it deserves.
Also the bottom tends to get a bit "wool-like". Almost as it looses controls when thins...

Philips Remote AKA marantz
Review of Philips SBC RU 890 by
billi65
Advantages: rechargable, easy programming
Disadvantages: bit slippy
...i have recently purchased a marantz intelligent remote control. Its great. It has replaced every remote control in the house. It has a large LCD touch screen which is completely customizable with text and graphics of your choice! Just download them from your PC. My remote controls, the TV, the CRT projector, dvd player, video, sky box, amplifier and best of all the room lighting. It is supplied with a smart recharging dock which recharges the batteries when the remote is sat on it. The remote is finished in a goldish sort of colour with a greeny/blue screen. It comes with an easy to follow manual and lead for your PC connection. One problem I have found is that the finish is so smooth I tend to drop it. It has had a couple of drops now but has suffered no damage, thank god because it cost £300. This may seem alot for a remote control...

Enchanting amp for a fairytale price
Review of Marantz PM7200KI by
helencooke01
Advantages: Amazingly clear sound (especially so in Class A), well built
Disadvantages: Very heavy, maybe not visually to some peoples tastes, can get hot in Class A
...As anyone with a hi-fi separates system knows, whatever equipment you have can never be good enough. As soon as one piece of kit is purchased, another starts to look outdated or outclassed. Having recently purchased a Marantz Signature amp to complement Mission Floorstanders, my Pioneer amps were beginning look and feel somewhat old. I had been so pleased with the Marantz CD player (a CD-63 mkII KI), and have previously owned Marantz amplifiers, that the decision to buy the PM7200 KI was fairly straightforward. It has been widely proclaimed one of the best dual class amps in the sub-£1000 price bracket, and as someone with not a lot of spare money, this was a welcome relief! Obviously a dual class amp for around £400 is quite a rarity, let along a Signature Marantz edition.
Reading up on the amp in various magazines and websites...

Superb piece of kit.
Review of Marantz - RC-2000 MkII by
DaveD
Advantages: Looks and works great.
Disadvantages: Heavy, still expensive
...The Marantz RC2000 is a universal remote control device. It can control upto 10 devices, and comes with built in codes for Marantz and philips sytems. The control is somewhat heavy when loaded with batteries, but one becomes used to this. The buttons are all easy to use and light up in the dark, so they're easy to find in that home cinema. The screen is made up of a table of named control codes, which are acitivated by pressing the corresponding buttons which are next to the screen. Often used controls are given special buttons (like play/stop, volume, channel up/down (MkII only) and number keys). Each device in the system has it's own button, which switched the device to control, and "double clicking" it will activate the on/off function for the device. Programming it is very easy, although it always takes some time to program up 10...

Marantz SR4400, sounds great, looks lovely
Review of Marantz SR 4400 A/V Receiver by
mendoza
Advantages: Great sound decoding, solid construction
Disadvantages: bit low on power output
...I recently bought a Marantz SR4400 and am very happy. I use it with KEF KHT2000 speakers and it sounds amazing. Saving private Ryan is awesome through this reciever the scene whith the storming of Omaha beach has bullets flying all around you powerfull explosion impacts with thunderous rumbles and tight thuds. At the same time voices can be heard clearly through the centre speaker although I had to increase the volume slightly to this channel.
Features include night mode which allows digital signals to be decreased, for example when watching action films at night while others are sleeping, turn on night mode and when their is a quiet scene followed by a loud action scene the reciever will lower the volume to a quieter level so that everyone in the house does'nt run to the bomb shelter.
The remote control has the abbility to operate...

MaRANTZ and RAVES about this one!
Review of Marantz CD-4000 by
Niburu
Advantages: Quality sound and build/nice features
Disadvantages: A bit too trebly and crisp
...and I couldn’t have got better than the Marantz CD4000.
SOUND
Marantz are well known for quality products, so I really didn’t need much convincing to get this one. The important thing about separates is balancing your components to create an overall lively but controlled sound, which can be tricky. Your speakers reproduce the sound, the Amp decodes it but your CD player creates it, making it an important starting point in the audio process. The Marantz is sharp and clear, with a very distinct vivid, vibrant sound that would clean up even the most bass orientated systems. It lacks depth however, which would disappoint the bass lovers out there and I find it prefers rock tracks rather than dance or R&B. The old classics belt out nicely, like Mike and the Mechanics `Living Years` and Mike Oldfield’s `Moonlight Shadow`.
