Marantz deliver on the sound
Advantages: Great looks, expansive open and detailed
Disadvantages: Lacks a little bite, not ideal for loud volumes
...There are a number of high quality amplifiers at the moment within the budget range and Marantz certainly figures prominently in this group. As with all of these amplifiers, they each seem to provide their own characteristic or sonic signature. In the case of Marantz, I usually consider them to be very open throughout the mid range and delivering a crisp clean bass or "snap" to the music. Therefore it was of a great interest to me to finally hear this particular amplifier which has been so highly praised in many publications.
When you see this amplifier, it looks expensive, it has a curvy attractive design which certainly belies it's price tag. It is clear that there has been a great emphasis on aesthetics to allow this to stand up in this very competitive market and it certainly gets top marks for that.
Secondly a welcome addition...

Marantz PM66-SE
Advantages: Features, durability, looks and abilities as a Dolby 2.0 Receiver
Disadvantages: Poor control over demanding music, weak midrange and a general lack of muscles.
...This is an ok amp. Nothing more, nothing less. It plays neutral with a coloring a bit towards the warm side (typical Marantz). It is has all the features needed for an amp today (Thumbs up for the 'Source Direct' switch!), looks good and is easy to use.
The problem with this amp is, unfortunately, it's ability to present music. Even though it has no "screaming" weaknesses, it has no apparent strengths neither. It becomes a bit boring too me. Midrange is the weakest side of this amp. When given songs where theres a lot going on in the midrange (Soilwork - Follow The Hollow, Pink FLoyd - The Dark Side of The Moon), it gets messy. It also lacks the open "top" to give Tool - Vicarious or Dire Straits -The Man's Too Strong the snappy sound it deserves.
Also the bottom tends to get a bit "wool-like". Almost as it looses controls when...

Samsung PL65
Advantages: Great features
Disadvantages: None really
...The Samsung PL65 is a simply designed, nice looking camera that boasts 12.2 megapixel's amopng it's high quality features. It has the attraction of a higher end camera but is priced, although not cheap, fairer than other cameras of this quality. However, if you are not interested in the settings and just want to take some holiday snaps or Birthday photos, you can use this eassily too. The camera's smart auto will choose the best settings for you to ensure great pics every time and with the dual image stabilisation, you don't have to worry about pictures coming out blurry because of your hands shaking. These features are really worthwhile and make a big difference when the camera is used by someone who may not be used to taking snaps. There are some other features that can help with problems such as the blink detection and red eye fixer...

A great sounding amp at a budget price
Advantages: A1 sound for the money, good price, great build, good looks
Disadvantages: Very little - perhaps underpowered a tad
...Introduction.................................
I owned a Marantz PM66se until fairly recently, upgrading to a much more powerful NAD c370. Whilst the NAD is obviously more powerful, it lacks some of the subtly and musicality of the Marantz amp. The Marantz has all the features most people will ever need, and you can now pick one up for a bargain price. IT even looks good (in my opinion - although I am a fan of the 'Marantz look').
Features.......................................
The following features are of note:
- It has a phono input for a record player
- There are 3 line sources and a further 2 tape loops (you can use these as line inputs anyway)
- The amp puts out a claimed 50 watts per channel RMS
- There is a 'source direct' button to bypass the balance and tape monitor controls
- The amp comes with a comprehensive...

Enchanting amp for a fairytale price
Advantages: Amazingly clear sound (especially so in Class A), well built
Disadvantages: Very heavy, maybe not visually to some peoples tastes, can get hot in Class A
...As anyone with a hi-fi separates system knows, whatever equipment you have can never be good enough. As soon as one piece of kit is purchased, another starts to look outdated or outclassed. Having recently purchased a Marantz Signature amp to complement Mission Floorstanders, my Pioneer amps were beginning look and feel somewhat old. I had been so pleased with the Marantz CD player (a CD-63 mkII KI), and have previously owned Marantz amplifiers, that the decision to buy the PM7200 KI was fairly straightforward. It has been widely proclaimed one of the best dual class amps in the sub-£1000 price bracket, and as someone with not a lot of spare money, this was a welcome relief! Obviously a dual class amp for around £400 is quite a rarity, let along a Signature Marantz edition.
Reading up on the amp in various magazines and websites...

Use it or you will pay
Advantages: Simple but good
Disadvantages: none
...your input device (CD player, mini disc, tape deck, turntable etc..) and then drives the speakers to produce that lovely sound. Without an amplifier there is no music, so it is an important component in any system in fact it is the beating heart of music listening.
The Marantz.
This Amp cost me £140, its retail price is £230, but I got a deal from Richer Sounds, for a couple of reasons (see Richer Sounds review). This is the Amp, I finally got after my previous midi (integrated) system went phut. I did not want to spend a fortune, but wanted something of decent quality.
Now with an amplifier, you should not look for lovely gimmicks and gadgets, it needs to do its very simple job well. If it has gadgets and lots of weird buttons, these will normally detract from its basic function. The Marantz has no gadgets, it is a simple...

Marantz cd5400 experience uncovered
Advantages: Uncover brilliant level of detail solid build
Disadvantages: Some features seem useless
...I have had this cd player for close to a year now and i can confidentally say it still works exactley the same from the day i purchased it, which compared to some of its rivals wheer the laser goes weak or the motors go slugish the marantz cd5400 truly has a high quality build to it.
If your a marantz fan then you should already have trust in what they can produce and to me the marantz cd5400 is the back bone to a nice high quality system.
It is not the best cd player around but for the money I can gurantee you will find it very hard to fin a cd player more impressive then the marantz cd5400.
When i first listened to my cd5400 i was that impressed by the acoustical detail it uncoverd i actully had to go down stairs and steal my moms mozart collection just to see how great it was.
The only draw backs to this cd player is...

E65 Nightmare?
Advantages: Overall a good phone, with good features and looks pretty.
Disadvantages: Slight technical glitch makes a nightmare situation for an impatient person!
...I recently upgraded my phone from the now very outdated LG U890, to the Nokia E65. When it arrived, I was like a child in a sweet shop, I was so excited about it's smooth, sleek and shiny appearance, and it felt great in my hand! It felt really light and generally professional.
When I first went to use it, though, I found it quite difficult to get the thing to work! I couldn't find the menu key (maybe I should read the manual?) so it was a nightmare trying to get to my messages. It was also a completely different lay out to my previous phone, meaning I couldn't just click the down button to get to my contacts, but once I realised this, all was well.
When I discovered many of the different features, I was in awe of the message reader, which kept me amused for a few minutes. I'm not a business person so a smart phone is not...
