Marantz SR4400, sounds great, looks lovely
Advantages: Great sound decoding, solid construction
Disadvantages: bit low on power output
...I recently bought a Marantz SR4400 and am very happy. I use it with KEF KHT2000 speakers and it sounds amazing. Saving private Ryan is awesome through this reciever the scene whith the storming of Omaha beach has bullets flying all around you powerfull explosion impacts with thunderous rumbles and tight thuds. At the same time voices can be heard clearly through the centre speaker although I had to increase the volume slightly to this channel.
Features include night mode which allows digital signals to be decreased, for example when watching action films at night while others are sleeping, turn on night mode and when their is a quiet scene followed by a loud action scene the reciever will lower the volume to a quieter level so that everyone in the house does'nt run to the bomb shelter.
The remote control has the abbility to...

Marantz deliver on the sound
Advantages: Great looks, expansive open and detailed
Disadvantages: Lacks a little bite, not ideal for loud volumes
...There are a number of high quality amplifiers at the moment within the budget range and Marantz certainly figures prominently in this group. As with all of these amplifiers, they each seem to provide their own characteristic or sonic signature. In the case of Marantz, I usually consider them to be very open throughout the mid range and delivering a crisp clean bass or "snap" to the music. Therefore it was of a great interest to me to finally hear this particular amplifier which has been so highly praised in many publications.
When you see this amplifier, it looks expensive, it has a curvy attractive design which certainly belies it's price tag. It is clear that there has been a great emphasis on aesthetics to allow this to stand up in this very competitive market and it certainly gets top marks for that.
Secondly a welcome addition...

Marantz cd5400 experience uncovered
Advantages: Uncover brilliant level of detail solid build
Disadvantages: Some features seem useless
...I have had this cd player for close to a year now and i can confidentally say it still works exactley the same from the day i purchased it, which compared to some of its rivals wheer the laser goes weak or the motors go slugish the marantz cd5400 truly has a high quality build to it.
If your a marantz fan then you should already have trust in what they can produce and to me the marantz cd5400 is the back bone to a nice high quality system.
It is not the best cd player around but for the money I can gurantee you will find it very hard to fin a cd player more impressive then the marantz cd5400.
When i first listened to my cd5400 i was that impressed by the acoustical detail it uncoverd i actully had to go down stairs and steal my moms mozart collection just to see how great it was.
The only draw backs to this cd player is...

An A/V receiver with the WOW factor
Advantages: Looks great, sounds awesome, feels awesome
Disadvantages: Detailed set up can be tricky - just as well it comes idiot proof!
...for shear high end quality.
Unfortunately they were always well out of my price range!
2) The decision
I was presented with a choice of three receivers, all of which fitted my requirements for connections, features etc. They included a Sony, a Yamaha and this Marantz.
Well, I fell in love with this unit the moment I saw it - especially when the salesman explained that it has been the display model and so they were willing to reduce it to bring it into my budget - SOLD!
3) The machine in general
The unit is that standard DVD/Hi-Fi/VCR width of about 15 inches and is finished in a very nice looking brushed metal - it looks very sleek with the power on as well as off!
Here's a pic for you to drool over:

MaRANTZ and RAVES about this one!
Advantages: Quality sound and build/nice features
Disadvantages: A bit too trebly and crisp
...and I couldn?t have got better than the Marantz CD4000.
SOUND
Marantz are well known for quality products, so I really didn?t need much convincing to get this one. The important thing about separates is balancing your components to create an overall lively but controlled sound, which can be tricky. Your speakers reproduce the sound, the Amp decodes it but your CD player creates it, making it an important starting point in the audio process. The Marantz is sharp and clear, with a very distinct vivid, vibrant sound that would clean up even the most bass orientated systems. It lacks depth however, which would disappoint the bass lovers out there and I find it prefers rock tracks rather than dance or R&B. The old classics belt out nicely, like Mike and the Mechanics `Living Years` and Mike Oldfield?s `Moonlight Shadow`.

Marantz PM66-SE
Advantages: Features, durability, looks and abilities as a Dolby 2.0 Receiver
Disadvantages: Poor control over demanding music, weak midrange and a general lack of muscles.
...This is an ok amp. Nothing more, nothing less. It plays neutral with a coloring a bit towards the warm side (typical Marantz). It is has all the features needed for an amp today (Thumbs up for the 'Source Direct' switch!), looks good and is easy to use.
The problem with this amp is, unfortunately, it's ability to present music. Even though it has no "screaming" weaknesses, it has no apparent strengths neither. It becomes a bit boring too me. Midrange is the weakest side of this amp. When given songs where theres a lot going on in the midrange (Soilwork - Follow The Hollow, Pink FLoyd - The Dark Side of The Moon), it gets messy. It also lacks the open "top" to give Tool - Vicarious or Dire Straits -The Man's Too Strong the snappy sound it deserves.
Also the bottom tends to get a bit "wool-like". Almost as it looses controls when...

Yamaha SR125
Advantages: Comforable, light on fuel, easy to repair
Disadvantages: Sluggish on cornering
...The Yamaha SR125 is a small, custom-style bike. Being 5'3", it was a good choice for my first bike. It's reliable and easy to ride. Over the 5 years that I owned one, all I needed to do was give it an annual service, apart from topping up the oil and replacing the headlight bulb.
The bulb needed replacing, on average, about once a year. It uses the same 12v type as a scooter so there was no lack of supply. ( Scooter shops seemed to offer it cheaper than dedicated motorbike shops). The other cosmetic items that occaisionally needed replacing were the clutch and brake handles. Also pretty inexpensive, about £12, depending on where you buy from.
The rear brake is a drum brake which is quite old-fashioned now, but easy enough to work with. The petrol consumption is very good. I rode from South London (Waterloo) to North London...

Mooching to Marantz
Advantages: High Quality Sound
Disadvantages: Not that good for Metallica (TTRACER says)
...Well, this is a name that we all know but we can't usually afford - Warfedale Speakers, Mission Amp., Bose Tweeters etc. are in the same bracket.
Now I would love to say that I have this system but unfortunately I can't - but I can write a review of my father-in-law's kit.
I have asked a few ciao insiders about Mirantz and what they like / dislike...special thanks to TTRacer.
Marantz released this model as a limited version origionally in 2000...either that or the British Isles were over-looked when marketing...anyway...it seems to be around now, so why would you want this.
If you are into Heavy Metal; stop reading - it ain't worth it. I've been told that CD-5000 doesn't give out the right LIVE atmosphere needed for feedback playing seen in concerts.
Whatever dad but ummm...I like this classically constructed masterclass...

Sony VAIO SR29XN/S - Expensive - But Quality First,Cost Second.
Advantages: Portable,Superb Perfomance and Nice Design.
Disadvantages: High Price Tag And Lack Of Blu-Ray Drive.
... Introduction
I am a computer enthusiaist and a techie and currently am employed as a Software developer in Infotech Corporation. It has now been a month since when I visited the local sony showroom to find myself purchasing sony's slim and portable VAIO SR29XN/S.Although I left the shop being 700£ poorer but i did not mind this sudden economic change as I was carrying my future in my hands. The notebook is a bit expensive but I still made a buy as I wanted a slim, portable and powerful notebook that would be forming the elite class in bussiness or executive class of laptops.
Portablity
This is where the notebook is the one of the best performer. It was designed while keeping the concept of portablity in mind and i would say that Sony has done an excellent job producing a notebook just 2 KG and with a 13.3 Inches Screen...

Sony HDD videocam (Model DCR-SR60)
Advantages: Lightweight, compact, great for taking on holiday, plenty of room on HDD
Disadvantages: Found the camera microphone sensitive to wind noise at times.
...I purchased the Sony HDD cam towards the end of 2007. It cost me just over $1100 Australian, (around 320 GBP).
The camera is light, compact, with easy to follow controls. Although the model is listed as SR60, in fact the hard-drive storage is 30gb, and I've found that this provides more than adequate room for my needs. You can record on this camera in several modes - Ive just set mine on High Quality mode which according to the instruction book is good for around 440minutes recording time- surely enough to satisfy most video buffs !
I'm not a whizz at connecting these things up, and getting the info on to computer, but I found the Sony remarkably easy to deal with. It was just a matter of putting the camera on its cradle, and transferring the digital footage through a supplied cord to the 2.0 USB slot of my computer (on which I...
