Mari-time you went to Lancaster Maritime Museum
Advantages: Inexpensive and interesting
Disadvantages: None
...LANCASTER MARITIME MUSEUM
Judging by the amounts of reviews I am writing about my local area I think I must be trying to boost the population and get you all to come and live here, but I really do have to write a review about his incredible little museum that really is well worth a visit.
For those of you that don't know Lancaster, it is a lovely little city.
It is situated on the River Lune and was the ancient settlement that gives Lancashire its name and it was was granted city status in 1937 for its "long association with the crown" and because it was "the county town of the King's Duchy of Lancaster". The history of the city is based on its port and canal and it is dominated by Lancaster Castle, the scene of the famous Pendle Witch Trial an now a prison.
It is below this castle, on St Georges Quay that...

Aberdeen Maritime Museum
Advantages: Excellent museum, my kids love to go every time we visit Aberdeen
Disadvantages: Perhaps not easy to find as it is off the main streets.
...Aberdeen Maritime Museum is located in Ship Row, close to the harbour in a historic area of the city. The importance of the fishing industry in this part of the country is explored along with the oil industry and local shipbuilding. There are loads of interactive exhibits which kids will enjoy and the large oil platform model which stretches over three levels is amazing to see. There are fantastic views out over the harbour area from the top floor of the museum too. The older part of the building - Provost Ross's house is very interesting with it's low ceilings and winding staircases. It houses lots of memorabilia from things like the ferry services and lifeboats.
The museum has a small gift shop selling all kinds of sea related gifts, books and toys.
The Leading Lights cafe in the basement area serves lovely coffee and cakes...

Dive in
Advantages: Great location, viewing platform on top of museum, cheap to get in
Disadvantages: Not much is translated into English
...Much has been written about the attractions of Tallinn, an undeniably beautiful and well-preserved city, and I was lucky enough to have the chance to take in the sights of the old town recently. While wandering around the picture postcard streets, I stumbled across this interesting museum totally by chance - despite its situation in one of the most well-known parts of the old fortifications, the tower known as Paks Margareeta ('Fat Margaret'), which is mentioned in most guidebooks for the Estonian capital, you'd be forgiven for walking right past without giving it a second glance. Whereas is many other cities, museums vie with one another to catch passing tourists, the maritime museum here does not really go in for much in the way of advertising!
Added to that are the curious opening times of the museum: it's closed on Mondays...

I'd sail the seas to avoid the Maritim, Bremen
Advantages: It's quiet
Disadvantages: It's on life support and needs a shot of adrenaline
...The Maritim is not one of my favourite hotels. If I hear that I've been booked there, a wave of disappointment rolls over me and that's based on only two stays so far - but I'm sure there will be more. It's not that there's actually anything WRONG with the hotel, it's just that it's got an air of being tired, past it and just not up to scratch for the new millenium. It must have once been really quite grand but today it's about as up to date as Princess Anne at a wedding.
The location is fine - there's the park to one side, the congress centre to the other and it's only a couple of minutes walk to the railway station. A taxi from the airport will cost you around Euro15 if you cant figure out how to take the trams to the station plaza. It's not even a noisy place - although I admit when I saw my room was on the road side the first...

5 star hotel, 4 star price tag - Maritim Hotel, Mauritius
Advantages: The service is exceptional
Disadvantages: May seem expensive to some people but worth saving for in my opinion
...~~Maritim Hotel, Mauritius~~
~Why this hotel:
In 2007 my partner and I were invited to our best friends wedding in Mauritius, it was something we definitely did not want to miss or something we did not date miss because my partner was the best man.
We did have the option to pick our own hotel but we decided the best choice would be for us to stay in the same all-inclusive hotel with our friends.
Our holiday was for the first 2 weeks in May with Hayes & Jarvis and it cost us £1,800 each for 2 weeks. You may think the cost was a little bit on the expensive side, but I hope my review will help to explain why.
I am not reviewing Mauritius itself - just the 4 star hotel.
~First impressions:
When we arrived at the airport we were greeted exceptionally well by the locals, the ladies received flowers and the men received a necklace...

...HULL CITY COUNCIL MUSEUMS
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
The free entrance museums and art gallery in Kingston-Upon-Hull are all maintained , run and funded through the Leisure Services Department of the local council . The Maritime Museum until the early seventies was housed in a small museum based at Pickering Park Hull . This was away from the city centre on the road to Hessle .
I remember this museum as a child in the fifties . Of course at that time it looked vast but really it was quite compact . In the grounds were whalebones ; relics of our bygone fishing days , when Hull was a huge port .In the sixties Hull was the third largest port in England . Hard to believe now .
As fishing declined I suppose the powers that be saw the importance of preserving artefacts from that past . How right they were...

Night at the Museum
Advantages: Great comedy and pure entertainment
Disadvantages: a little slow to begin.. but not for long though.
...Director: Shawn Levy
Producers: Shawn Levy and Stephen Sommers.
Writer: Milan Trenc, Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon.
Stars: Ben Stiller, Carla Gugino, Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Bill Cobbs, Jake Cherry, Charlie MurphyRami Malek, Pierfrancesco Favino,Ricky Gervais, Patrick Gallagher, Robin Williams and Kim Raver
Released in Late 2006 this comedy, (I believe is based on a 1993 novel by Milan Trenc), revolved around a Museum and its mystical effects on a night watchman.
**BRIEF PLOT**
In New York city's Museum of Natural History Lawrence 'Larry' Daley, (played by Ben Stiller) begins a job as a night watchman, mainly to gain the respect of his son Nick, (played by Jake Cherry).
Larry has had many dead end jobs in the passed, failing at all he tries, and is so terrified that Nick will prefer spending time with his...

Enjoy yourself with added guilt.
Advantages: Free. Lots to see and do
Disadvantages: I couldn't see a cafe. Perhaps I missed it. There are plenty around anyway
...We squeezed a trip in here the other day whilst we were waiting to go on the 'Dukw bus' or is it 'Duck Bus'. It turned out to be a really good time filler.
The museum has moved since the last time I went about 15 years ago into a new warehouse in the Albert dock. We went on the train so I can't really comment on the parking situation but it looked OK, with plenty of spaces in the large parking lot to the left of Albert dock.
The museum looks all new and fresh, with a huge anchor sitting outside the front steps. The lobby is large and inviting.
It's on 4 floors with a lift and stairs and it looked like they were extending into the basement.
The display areas were excellent. It is vibrant with light and sound with an excellent use of multimedia. The interactivity was superb and the kids (5,8,8,and 10) could have spent 5 times as...

The Booth Museum, Brighton
Advantages: Free admission, lots to see
Disadvantages: None for me
...The Booth Museum is located on Brighton's suburban back streets well away from the town centre but having said that it is on Dyke Road (the A2010) which is one of the major routes through the town and so it is relatively easy to find.
The museum is named after the Victorian natural historian Edward Thomas Booth who spent much of his life in Brighton. Primarily it houses his personal collection of stuffed birds but there are also animals, insects, fossils and skeletons. These collections were amassed during his lifetime and contain over half a million different specimens. He lived between 1840 and 1890.
Like most Victorian naturalists of the time he was an avid collector. It seems odd nowadays to think that someone that was considered to be such a lover of these creatures should hunt them down and shoot them. However we need to...

Yo Ho Ho And A Bottle Of Rum
Advantages: See text of opinion
Disadvantages: See text of opinion
...~ ~ I’ve lived here in Dublin for over twenty years now, and it was only recently that I discovered that this small museum, the Maritime Museum of Ireland, even existed.
I was stuck out in a seaside suburb of Dublin, Dun Loghaire, (where the ferries from Holyhead in Wales arrive) waiting for a fare to the airport in my taxi, and with an hour to kill. So the weather being rather pleasant, (a rare enough occurrence this year!) I parked up and went for a wee wander to take the sea air.
~ ~ The Maritime Museum is located in an old church called (wait for it) the Mariner’s Church, up a small side street called Haigh Terrace, just off the Dun Loghaire main street, and right beside the side entrance to one of the main hotels in the village, the Royal Marine.
The old church has a bit of history attached to it. It was opened in...
