In this easygoing video members of Collective Soul explain that they'd never played an acoustic set until they made a four-day journey to Morocco for the series Music in High Places, but you'd never know it from the quality of their playing. While the Roland brothers (vocalist Ed and rhythm guitarist Dean) join lead guitarist Ross Childress with their unplugged six-strings, percussionist-bassist Will Turpin and drummer-percussionist Shane Evans play indigenous instruments to form a tight, acoustic rhythm section. The simple premise of the series--sending first-rate musicians on expeditions to ancient landmarks around the world--is surprisingly effective, and the production values are impeccable, without losing focus on the music (such as the hit single "December") that Collective Soul is famous for. Of the dozen songs performed, two are new, five are from Blender, three from Collective Soul and two from Hints, Allegations and Things Left Unsaid. While this may disappoint devotees of Dosage, these songs have a cohesive quality that blends well with the band's musical stops in the Sahara desert, a 700-year-old kasbah, the market of Marrakech (an outdoor highlight), and elsewhere. Ed Roland's belief that rock & roll should be fun is expressed in the band's overall demeanour: they're talented but not too serious (except, perhaps, when Roland objects to having a monkey on his shoulder). Even on rainy days, the Moroccan landscape is breathtaking, and while the group's spoken observations are mostly innocuous, it's clear that this was a special experience for all involved, and that feeling comes through clearly. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com ... less

...Marrakech has always been high up on my list of places to visit, so earlier this year I packed my bags and set off with a friend to explore the city.
We flew with easyjet from London Gatwick to Marrakech Menara airport, convinently located around 15 minutes taxi ride from central Marrakech.
Morrocco has a closed currency system meaning that Morrocan Dirhams cannot be brought into...

A Little Corner of Paradise in Marrakech
Advantages: Great terrace, fantastic breakfasts and the friendliest Rottweiler
Disadvantages: A bit out of the centre and room was a little gloomy
...to get enough points to 'buy' two hotel vouchers for Marrakech. One of the two riads ? the posher one ? was the Riad El Faran for which I received a voucher for two nights room and breakfast plus a free airport pick up.
Inspired by having vouchers for 5 days worth of accommodation, I then booked a 6 night break to Morocco with my husband and offered my sister and her girlfriend their flights...

...I have stayed at the Sofitel Marrakech twice and in my opinion it defiantly earns it's 5 star status. From the moment you step out of the car your made to feel very special and very welcome! Whilst reception check you in, you are seated and greeted with fresh morrocan mint tea served in delicate little glasses, to make it a stress free check in (no long queuing) no need to carry your cas...
