Vieux Port
Advantages: A unique city, full of history and character
Disadvantages: Racy reputation, some grim districts
...for the trackside. And few cities, however rough and tough their reputations, are without interest and character on closer acquaintance.
Indeed, such reputations can often enhance the interest, at the same time as preserving the city from excessive tourism. Marseille is no more on the regular French tourist trail than, say, Glasgow or Liverpool is on the British, but like them it's none the worse for being neglected, and there is plenty to see there, as we discovered this year when we went back to take a closer look at it.
~ History and background ~
Marseille is France's second biggest city and busiest port. It has been a major port since pre-Roman times, when the Greeks bestowed the name Massalia on the trading post they founded on the site of the modern city. In the middle ages, Marseille sprang into prominence as a staging post...

Marseille - culture - climate =beau
Advantages: Gorgeous Climate, Beautiful Culture, Picture moment Scenaries
Disadvantages: driving(?)
...around France you find alot of lavender fields, - purple flowers which give a great smell, the roads can be quiet depending on which areas you visit.
In marseille itself there are lots of ports and harbours you will see with boats and stuff.
Overall the atmosphere of Marseille - created by the french language, the locals, the serenity and most of all the climate make marseille a great relaxing destination filled with culture.
Ive got some amazzzinnggg pictures and my home video of the holiday. I might upload some pictures to my website or to Ciao at a later date. You can contact me for pictures through my site www.mopages.co.nr
Overall I would strongly recommend a trip to Marseille - unless your into night-clubbing etc - though i heard marseille has them i never saw them. Marseille would be loved by slightly older people - though...

Marseille
Advantages: An interesting Vieux Port (old port) area, good accommodation options nearby
Disadvantages: A noticeably high crime rate, not a great deal to see outside the port and coast areas
...A “reputation for roguishness and danger”, as an older edition of our guidebook states, at first seemed a rather strange claim to make about Marseille. Regrettably, however, crime rates here are among the highest in France, and our own impressions could do nothing but strengthen this view.
I had first visited the city two years ago, in the summer of 1999. That time, I had stayed in a pleasant (though rather unhygienic) youth hostel far from the Vieux Port area, and had avoided any kind of mishap whatsoever. This was still true after a confused two-hour walk back to my accommodation (after the Metro had unexpectedly shut down on Sunday evening), which took me through dark alleyways of the worst description. In fact, it was only other people that ever appeared to hold a grudge against Marseille’s inhabitants...

A COMPLETE GUIDE TO MARSEILLE
Advantages: Cheaper than England, great food, easy to get to, friendly people
Disadvantages: High crime rate, polluted (aren't all big cities??!?) Its French (Lol)
...how do I get there?
Well despite Marseille being right at the bottom of France it is still remarkably easy to get to and you do not have to rely on the plane. Firstly the obvious way to get there is by plane - British Airways, Air France and Buzz (only from Stanstead) fly there.
Now if you're not too keen on the travelling by plane you can go entirely by train to Marseille. (When I went to Marseille I went by plane so I don't know how much this option will cost but I imagine a fair bit more than an airfare). To get to Marseille by train you need to get to Waterloo Station (in London) and catch the Eurostar to Paris. And then from Paris catch the TGV to Marseille. I'm not sure what the exact journey time would be if you went to Marseille that way but I think the Eurostar takes a 2 or 3 hours and the TGV from Paris to Marseille...

La Belle ville de Marseille
Advantages: It's a Beautiful city with breathtaking views
Disadvantages: Going out for a drink can proove expensive.
...plate and 8? for a big one, and you can pile up as much as you can get on that plate. It's gormet food, well prepared and all vegetarian.
As for the shopping. A small Aubergine in an English supermarket costs .99p, and aubergine twice the size costs .60? about .30p to .35p. I could go on quoting you price differentials like this. But then I'd end up saying more about the shopping than Marseille, which is what I'm writing about.
There are plenty of sights to see, such as Notre Dame de la Guarde, which is a large church with a statue of the Virgin Mary overlooking the city. One can catch le petite train from Vieux Port (the old port), which will take you up to the church, which is well worth the trip. Not only to see the splendour of this magnificent building. But also for the view it affords you of the city and the islands just off...

Port El Kantaoui
Advantages: Beautiful Beaches
Disadvantages: Mainly For Couples, Hassle From Local Shopkeekers
...Port El Kantaoui is a purpose built Holiday Resort on the Northern Coast of Tunisia in North Africa. It is situated just a few kilometres North of Sousse, Tunisia's second largest City after the Capital Tunis.
It was built in 1979 with a modern 300 Yacht capacity Marina as its focal point. In recent years this Marina has become a popular mooring location for the rich and famous undertaking their Mediterranean Cruises and the Marina here is said to rival those long established Marinas of Nice and Marbella on the Southern Coast of Europe. It is now also Tunisia's most popular Holiday Resort.
I stayed in Port El Kantaoui between the 2nd and 9th July 2006 and found the experience to be a rather interesting one. Since it was my first visit to Tunisia I was a little unsure of what to expect and as my Holiday approached I began to hear...

Port Aventura Salou
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...Port Aventura is in Spain, it is a theme park that is split into five different themes which are China, Far West, Mediterrania, Mexico and Polynesia. These lands are all decorated alike the country they are named after, the attention paid to the decoration is brilliant and it really gives you that fun theme park feeling.
There is also a water park called the Costa Caribe which has an in and outdoor pool and some really good rides within it, there are different slides and rafting slides and a nice place to relax and catch a tan in this park. The water park is clean and has pleasant caribean surroundings. This park is only open in the summer period of the year, it can be very busy but is a great place to visit when you are visiting Port Aventura.
There are a good selection of rides in the Port Aventura park including the Dragon...

Bon Vacances at Port Bourgenay
Advantages: Masses to do, something for everyone.
Disadvantages: Maybe a bit pricey in high season
...beyond our budget if it wasn't for the Clubcard vouchers that are worth four times their face value, but after much debate and research we plumped for Port Bourgenay, run by Pierre et Vacances, as it looked like it was in a perfect location, is close to the beach, and there seemed to be a lot to do. It cost somewhere in the region of £1000 for the accommodation (£250 in deals) for seven nights and £300 for the return ferry.
~*~ Location ~*~
We live in the south west, so a Portsmouth - Cherbourg crossing is ideal for us. We always get the earliest ferry (around 9am) so we arrive in France around 3pm which gives us plenty of time to drive to our accommodation and settle in by bed time. Or so I thought! This really wasn't the easiest place to find at all. We knew the main towns that we had to head towards: Rennes, Nantes, La...

Marseilles, my town...
Advantages: beautiful, and full of history...
Disadvantages: the sun !!! which is always shining !!!
...Hello everybody !
Today, I'll try to perfect my english, because as I write in my personality, I'm a french student in Telecommunication and Networks... Well, I'll deal with Marseille, which is My Town... I'll try to present a fex monuments of my town.
oo0oo NOTRE DAME DE LA GARDE oo0oo
In the past, the La Garde hill was devoted to three functions : a look-out post (observation), a fortified castle (defense), and a basilica (cult). The Romanesque-Byzantine style religious building was erected between 1853 and 1864. THE SAINT VICTOR ABBEY (Open every day from 08.00 to 12.00 a.m. and from 02.00 to 06.00 p.m.)
Marseille introduced monastic order in Provence. The crypts conserve highly valuable archeological evidence which attest to the presence of a quarry, exploited in the Greek era, followed by a Hellenistic necropolis of which...

Lovely at twilight!
Advantages: Beautiful part of Marseille
Disadvantages: Can have a few undesirables.
...The Old Port is definitely worth a visit; it it situated in the centre of Marseilles, at the end of the famous Canebiere road. Its a great place to walk around, especially at twilight when the street and boat lights come on and the sunset reflects off the water. Some of the cafes with views of the boats are great to lounge around in and people watch, though they can get a bit pricey. The Old Port also has some of the nicest restaurants serving the famous "Bouillabaisse" a complicated but very tasty fish soup. Disadvantages however include lots of the local riffraff mooching around pestering lone girls or begging for money. The Old Port is also the palce to go for boat trips into the islands which are good fun....
