Yamaha 12 String Acoustic Guitar

...If you've read many of my op's you've probably figured out I'm a musical type of person, but not the type that jingles whilst walking. For years I have enjoyed playing rhythm guitar both privately and on the road but never more so than on my Yamaha 12 String. It's a lovely full size instrument that creates amazing volume even without an amp, and by far outdoes all the other acoustics I have had or used in the past, and I have had some nice ones. The overall design is pretty standard at first glance, but if you look a little closer, or better yet actually try one you can appreciate the really low fretting that gives a very smooth action, and in the case of my one having dreadnought fretting it's even smoother. The head of the guitar is well shaped also, and fitted out with chrome keys that really set of the rose wood neck...

1 of the elite trio of acoustic brands!!!

Advantages: will last a life time, sounds great, plays great, will not depreciate
Disadvantages: costly to begin with

...After playing for 12 years I had finally found an acoustic that was worthy of being purchased by myself. The acoustic market has an elite trio which consists in my opinion of: Taylor, Gibson and Martin. All offer fantastic tones, comfortable playability, exceptional intonation and superb craftsmanship. They are the bench mark of acoustics that offer outstanding quality which other brands cannot match. To put it quite simply, If you purchase a Martin you will never have to buy another acoustic again, they are the perfect tool for all professional players. In my experience I have never seen one loose any value or sound bad. My advice would be to certainly shop around to find the best deals and Do not just settle on the first that you pick up unless you are instantly happy with its feel and sound. No two acoustics are identical in sound...

...The Epipiphone Hummingbird is my first Acoustic guitar i have not stolen off my dad. £300 is not a bad deal, seeing as the Gibson acoustics are all around £3000. The looks and finish of this guitar are very nice, i enjoy graphics on my guitar as long as they arent too loud, and this 'mockingbird' illustration is just plain pleasent. The shape of the guitar is perfect so that it can sit on your lap for hours and not ache, partly due to its incredibly light weight. The playability is pretty much perfect, the best you can get for a £300 acoustic, and times I thought I was playing an electric, the fretboard was just so slim, the strings were at perfect distance from the fretboard. The sound is not as good as the playability I must admit, probably because of the lightweight body, it is not hard enough to sustain the notes for a very long...

Therfore no collection would be complete without an axe from one of the world's finest and best known acoustic producers. Ovation. I own the Ovation Celebrity Deluxe which i believe is the finest looking in the Ovation range. However, you will also know that from my other reviews, Im left handed with the guitar which narrows your choice in colour. For a Right hander, the choices include, Black, Natural, Wine, Green and a sunburst effect top and also available in vasious mapel finishes. Im afraid to say my only choice was Black. Still it does look rather fetching and contrasts well with the Marquetry effect leaves around the multiple sound holes. Being an Ovation, it does come...

Beautiful DM 12

Advantages: Quality and fabulous sound
Disadvantages: Not cheap, but such quality never is

...I have very large hands, and find many guitar necks too narrow. I already had a Martin D 16 GT and I was well impressed. The DM 12 looks good. The finish is 'satin' and unfussy, without unnecessary adornment. That's not to say it looks basic, it actually looks just right. The instrument is extremely well made, and lighter than you'd imagine. Mine has a rosewood fingerboard and Schaller machine heads with the Martin logo. The action is light and low, with no fret buzz regardless of how I play. The DM 12 that I bought is 3 years old, though in absolute mint condition and doesn't even look as though it's ever been played - strange, but true. The most impressive thing about any Martin that I've ever played is the sound and the DM 12 is highly impressive. The sound is beautifully rich and mature and not thin and jangly like some...

Marcel Dadi - country guitar an' all.

Advantages: Unusual, highly talented flat picking guitarist
Disadvantages: Not any that I know of

The fact that Marcel Dadi's memory resides in the Nashville Hall of Fame suggests to me that he is a Flat Picking Nashville Country Guitarists, although I don't really care - I just adore his music as something different for a change. Advantages: warm sound, For a range of styles, time proven dreadnaught design.
Disadvantages: Laminated back and sides

...I baught the guitar about a year ago and have played it nearly every day since. I play Jazz, folk and blues fingerstyle and the Martin suits my style of playing. The guitar has a solid spruce top and laminated mahogany back and sides giving it a very warm sound that has improved after playing. My first impressions of the guitar was how well it was built. It had no rough edges and no other noticable imperfections. When buying the guitar i was considering a Taylor 214 and a Yamaha LL. I recomend buying the Taylor equivelent if a brighter sound is required. I didnt buy the Yamaha as it sounded dull due to old strings and the shop keeper would not replace them for me. I have played the yamaha since and if i had the choice again i would buy the Yamaha as you get solid back and sides for the money and i love the sound that Bert Jansch gets out...

Applause Guitars are the younger brother of guitar manufacturers Ovation, who have been making trustworthy guitars for over 30 years now, and here have used this experience to make a guitar that doesn't sound like a guitar that is as cheap as this, but is a high-quality product. My model number is actually the AE 28, rather than the 64, but trust me, from what I know about Ovations and what else I can work out, there are no differences here except the numbers! I brought it in November last year from a local music retailers, who I purchased my two other guitars (both electric), so trusted them fully when they recommended me this offering, and they've not let me down...

Taylor 810 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

Advantages: Superior tone, easy to play
Disadvantages: Expensive

...! The tone of this guitar cannot be surpassed by any Martin or Gibson. It rings clear and true, and is well balanced between the treble and bass strings. I have played it in many a session, and its distinctive tone cuts above all the others. It is truly a guitarist's guitar, a pleasure to use. The action is just high enough to give good projection, yet low enough to make playing fast and easy. While a little pricy for anyone but the serious guitarist, this guitar is however much cheaper than the nearest rivals from Martin or Gibson. As a bonus it comes in an extremely heavy Taylor hard case - made of 5-ply wood, which will withstand even a motorbike falling on it. (Tried and tested, lol). This guitar is not for a beginner, and would be wasted on someone who just wants to strum chords. It's a melodic guitar, and should be used...
