Marton Mere: A Great Base To Explore Blackpool

Advantages: set on a nature reserve, clean park
Disadvantages: I dont like the Haven entertainment

...Me and my friend decided to get away for a short break for the first week of the Easter holidays with two twelve year olds and settled on Blackpool as our destination. After searching the web for accommodation in the area we decided to go for Marton Mere holiday resort. Based on the outskirts of Blackpool it looked like a good base for us to explore the area and we were hoping that the kids would enjoy the onsite facilities too. Most people book directly with Haven holidays and get an all inclusive deal for accommodation with entertainment passes. This would have cost us £300+ for the week in April 2009 that we wanted to stay. Another option is to hire a caravan directly from a private owner on the site. This was the option my sister took last summer so we knew that the landlord was one we could trust and we got an 8 berth caravan...

Haven Marton Mere (Blackpool)

Advantages: Ideal for young children, Great off peak prices, Tourist attractions easily accessible
Disadvantages: I'd Probably say all of it, if it weren't for my daughter!

...Ok, so a Haven caravan in Blackpool isn't my dream holiday. That would be lying on a beach in the Bahama's somewhere, sipping cocktails. If only.... However I'm a single mum to two children, aged , at the time of visit last June, age 3 and 11. My eldest was off on a 3 week tour of California with my parents, so that left just me and my 3 year old daughter. I've never been on holiday alone, and I don't drive. This is why I chose the Haven holiday park at Marton Mere, Blackpool. It was easily accessible by train within a couple of hours and the location of the camp promised plenty of attractions within a short and regular bus journey. I booked through the Haven website, and chose a superior Plus 6 sleeper caravan. This was the 'mid range' caravan and included in the price entertainment passes (needed for any of the facilities...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...My recent quest for FREE DVD hire I visited and many DVD web sites that offered a free trial. Now call me tight (no that wasn?t an invite), but I like bargains and freebies and am not ashamed to say so. My quest took me to enough sites to hire DVDs for about four months so far (with plenty to come too). My latest free DVD site also happens to be the best I have tried for several reasons (see rest of op); the site in question is Blockbuster.co.uk. Other sites that I have had free rentals from and then cancelled have all been similar, two weeks free trial with two DVD?s per time ? which in effect gives you about four free DVD?s. ...Before I bought this DVD player Id never really owned a DVD player before. I had however had and still do have a ps2 on which I used to play my DVDs. I never really went and still don’t go on this so much so I was going to sell it and buy a DVD player. In the end I decided to just keep the ps2 and to get a cheaper DVD player than I was looking for in the first place. The main reason why I wanted a new DVD instead of the one in the ps2 was so I could play divx format DVDs on it. DVDs for a fixed monthly fee...

Advantages: Simple, easy to use, quick delivery, good customer service
Disadvantages: May not have all the titles you are after

...I was using one of those sites that offer you points or a few cents for trying out free offers (don't recall which one exactly, may have been 'IPoints'...) and it had Lovefilm's FREE two week trial. I signed up free for the minimal membership which allows you to keep one DVD at a time for as long as you want (with no late fees!) and although I had to give my credit card information, the agreement states that you will not be charged anything if you cancel within the two week period.. The membership ranges from £9 to £15 per month now; I do not recall how much it cost mid last year to be honest.. The other memberships get you 2 and 3 DVDs at a go. I added the films I was interested in to some sort of 'wishlist'. The idea is that they send you one DVD, you keep it for as long as you want, then they send you the next one on your list...
