...Do you enjoy maths? Or are you someone who struggles to get to grips with maths as a subject? Either way the idea of this game is for you to learn and get increasingly better each day you take part in the challenges you are given. Sadly the game is not so good and makes it very unlikely you would want to keep learning. The game -------------- I enjoy maths so much so I got this game because I assumed it would assist me with my mathematics and because I was doing it more frequently at work I thought why not. The game is basically set out in a diary, you turn up each day and get to do some challenges. You begin on level one which is basic maths and to be fair simple as can be, but it might be hard for some others out there. ...Once again, I'm at pains to point out that the authoress of this workbook is Sue Phillips, and not Carol Vorderman! The workbook is aimed at children aged six to seven, in Year 2 of primary school (Key Stage 1). It is labelled 'beginner' and so covers the first half of the syllabus for that year, the second half being covered by another workbook labelled 'advanced'. The front cover states that it 'supports curriculum teaching in the UK and Ireland'. The very first page of the book deals with numbers from 1 to 50 in the form of a chart where friendly looking snakes are covering up certain numbers; it is reminiscent of a snakes and ladders board and does therefore help to make this page look like a game. ...I have just watched my husband play this game with two of our children. All three of them were enjoying themselves while doinng Mathe. This game does not try to pretend it is any thing else but a maths game. The game comes with a board with 256 squares marked on it and 84 square tiles. Each tile has 4 triangles on it, each triangle is one of 4 colours and has a number in it. The colours represent different mathematical functions. Blue - subtraction Green - Multiplication Yellow - Addition Red - Division Each player takes 5 tiles and they take it in turn to place them on the board a bit like dominos matching colours. ...emphasis is placed on the SATs tests that take place towards the end of Year 6 and that too much anxiety is created by them, but aside from this a child who is struggling may well need some extra help and practice outside of school in order to be more confident before entering secondary school. This workbook certainly provides such practice, and could also be useful for a more able child aged 9-10 who perhaps is not being stretched enough at school. In either case, a parent with a basic knowledge of maths could find Maths Made Easy very useful if they wish to help their child at home.
