Cheap and Cheerful
Review of Matsui 110 by ccaadaw

Advantages: Excellent value for money
Disadvantages: No extra features, such Video CD capability

...Although Matsui's DVD player may well be at the bottom of the price range, it most certainly isn't at the same level for quality. I have had mine since it first came on to the market and haven't had any problems whatsoever. It can be chipped to play multi region DVDs by a series of commands from the remote control, and can handle playing these without any hastle. I have watched DVDs on other models such as a Samsung, and I am yet to find any better quality of picture or sound. OK, the more expensive models have extra features, but for a low cost and for someone who is just after a straight foward DVD player, no frills, then the Matsui is my first choice. Cheap and Cheerful.... Read review

Matsui DVD225 - Review
Review of Matsui DVD225 by AshR3006

Advantages: Small, easy to use
Disadvantages: Whirring noise

...I got one of these as a birthday present a couple of years ago, its has a good range of features including mp3 playback and dolby digital sound. Its only very small compared to other dvd players which is really good because it means it can be kept just about anywhere, mine currently sits on top of my small bedroom tv, completely out of the way. The dvd player is easy to use, although the remote has quite a few buttons that I am unsure what they do. The dvd plaer has good sound and picture quality and plays both real and copied dvds. I have never had any technical problems with mine. The only disadvantage I have had with the product is that it makes quite a loud whirring noise at times when playing dvds. Overall good product thought.... Read review

A mere woman converted EXCELLENT
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by sue

Advantages: Beats video by far
Disadvantages: None

...This player is outstanding it has converted me a mere woman to the benefits of DVD & suround sound TV. I had always tolerated my husbands need for the best TV & audio equipment, but this got me watching James Bond, I hate James Bond, just for the effects and the picture quality. We started with a Matsui DVD within a week the DVD player was faulty and exchanged. We then changed one DVD 7 times because it played most other DVD's ok we thought it was the DVD not the player. When the store got fed up of changing the DVD we took the DVD to a local TV & audio shop and asked them to check the DVD it played on all there DVD players. The Matsui DVD player was returned again checked instore and found to be faulty again. We paid the extra and got the PIONEER DV-525 it plays every DVD the picture quality is excellent as is the sound. Having... Read review

Matsui DVD225
Review of Matsui DVD225 by SoulLine

Advantages: Great Still Picture, Easy to set up
Disadvantages: No Clock or timer, Gets warm, Short lead

...This DVD player gets warm and is quick noisey but it is a great first time player. Quick set-up but at the price lacks advanced features. Compact so it takes up little room which is handy for those with limited space for a larger DVD player. Plays more than just DVD's which is a bonus on this cheap little unit. Features Dolby Sound and plays MP3, CD's and has a Kodak reader for viewing picture cd's instead of just a DVD player as on more expensive players. I would buy this player if I needed another player and was tight for space. The lead on the player is a let down unless you have an extension lead available, or a plug socket close to the unit. Paying abit more on another unit would be better due to short cord and only one scart lead so you can't add it to anything other than a television. To connect a video, television... Read review

Rubbish!
Review of Matsui 32LW507 by PeterMorris

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Terrible picture

...I bought one for 430 quid from Currys. Lots of ghosting on screen and the picture "wobbled" when I put my DVD player on so I exchanged it. The next one also had ghosting. I created a simple red green blue testcard image on my PC and viewed it on my DVD player, the TV showed a yellow bar between the red and green! I took it back to the shop and got a refund! The guy who carries the stuff in and out of the shop told me that Matsui TVs are brought back very often. Two more employees both immediately said "Was it a Matsui by any chance?" when I described my experience as I looked at the other TVs. I would advise keeping away from this TV! PS: If you are LCD TV ignorant like myself be aware that shops always show high definition video on the display tv's. If you want an idea of how it will really look when you get it home ask them... Matsui 8" Portable DVD Player - not bad
Review of Matsui PL 800 by IzzyS

Advantages: Good screen and unit size, nice and portable, pretty lightweight when battery isnt used
Disadvantages: Had problems with the disc tray opening (has now been fixed), battery pack heavy

...not the biggest quality brand name out there and there may be a problem on some of their units with the disc tray opening but like I've said there is a very easy solution to this and hopefully thats sorted (I've had it a few months and its been fine since I fixed it in March, so I like to think its fully fixed now and if not I still have that handy paper clip!). The quality of the parts and so on may not be as good as other makes but its still a good item with good features at a competitve price, which was what I was looking for and I don't regret buying it, considering how much more some of the more well known brands charge for 8" portable DVD players. I'm not too worried about the Matsui make apart from the problem I've mentioned already as my family have a few Matsui products and they've all been fine, so I think in general Matsui are no worse than... Best investment for 12 hour plane journeys!
Review of Matsui PL618 by scotlandizdabest

Advantages: Portable, good picture and sound, very handy to beat boredom
Disadvantages: Quite sensitive if moved suddenly

...**What Is It** The Matsui PL618 is a portable DVD player. It has a LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) 8" screen display. It is used to allow the access of DVD's and CD's to be played at will, without the need of a television. **Why Get One?** I asked for one for my Christmas two years ago so I would be able to watch DVD's in the car, in my room and on the plane for when we went to New Zealand. So it would be useful as I would be able to watch my favorite DVD's at will. You might have the same ideas as I found it was great entertainment in the plane as me and my brother did not like the on flight movies so we watched all the Harry Potter movies! **Packaging** When I got mine it came in a rectangle shaped box with a white plastic handle on it. It had pictures of it all over the sides and logos of Matsui. It looked very attractive from... Read review

The Matsui DVD225
Review of Matsui DVD225 by Tuffin_87

Advantages: Slim Design which means it can easily fit anywhere
Disadvantages: none

...I saw this DVD player in an electronics shop and instantly knew it was the one i wanted to buy. I have a relitively small bedroom which means that finding places for things is slightly restrictive. This DVD player was perfect from me because of it's small size. It is a third narrower than most DVd players i have seen. For me this ultimately meant that i could free up some extra place on the shelf to store my DVd's which was brilliant. The DVD player is relitavely easy to use once you have figured out what all the buttons on the remote mean. I have had this DVd player for nearly 18 months now though and have never experienced any problems with it. It plays all of my DVD's perfectly without making them skip or jump as some of my friend's DVD players do. The DVd player also has some ohter functions which mean that it does not only play... Cheap- tastic DVD
Review of Matsui 110 by Gurmon

Advantages: Cheap. Gets the job done
Disadvantages: Remote lets it down

...If it’s a budget DVD player that you’re in the market for, then I would seriously consider that you add this one to your look at list. The way I see it most people would really want a DVD recorder to replace their ailing VHS players. However as they aren’t on the market yet and if you can’t really wait until they are out, then instead of handing over a huge amount of money for a DVD reader, get a budget one and save your money for a decent recorder. I have had no problems with the Matsui so far. It is as simple as whacking the disk in and pressing play to bring up the option screen. The picture is crystal clear and the sound is better. It is exactly what you would expect from a digital player. I have heard that some DVD players also support the VCD format. This player does not. The controls are simple. It has a slow motion forward... Read review

Cheap, smart and solid!
Review of Matsui CD18 by BessieBadger

Advantages: Takes up much less space than conventional model
Disadvantages: None

...Last Christmas I was looking for a portable radio/cassette/CD player, but as it was for my bedroom I wanted the smallest one possible. I found that Dixon's had a new model out, one where the CD is placed vertically instead of horizontally and therefore takes up much less space. I was very sceptical as it was new and so cheap, but decided to buy it and try it. It is brilliant! The casing is plastic although it doesnt' look cheap and it's easy to use and light to carry around. The sound quality is excellent on the radio, tapes and CD player. I have compared it with much more expensive models and for the price it beats them all. Used daily, it is proving a thoroughly good buy!... Read review
